Will be named new head coach of Knott Central sometime this week. Mark it down. You can list this as a rumor if you want but its true. Fraley is a former Pulaski Co. coach for many years.
Welcome to the 14th and good luck!

He also has had some health issues of late and I do not believe he is headed for KCC. But if he is, look out parents he will not tolerate outside interference. I have not talked to him since I read this rumor but I will be shocked if it is true. Dave is great. We worked together a long time ago.

He also was at Powell way back. He won a state championship with Reggie Hanson at Pulaski

What kind of head coaching experience does he have

He was coach at Powell Co. in the mid 70's.
And before all that he was an old Johnson Co. boy who graduated from Meade Memorial.

How old is he? :eyeroll:

Wow, has he been out of coaching for 30 years???
Knute Rockne was a great coach, but time would have passed him by. Joe Gibbs was a great example of that when he stepped away from the NFL for 10 years and could NEVER get the feel again. Is this hire grasping for old glory? No disrespect, but this seems to be a stretch of desperation hire.

I can't see him leaving his home to take another coaching job. If he wanted to coach again he could still be the coach at Pulaski Co.

I'm sure was a good coach in his day, that day has come and passed. I think they would have been better off with a number of other people that applied or if they kept Amburgey. Slow down ball to come to Knott, dont think the players much like that style anymore.

Heard they had Drum Thornsberry making a place for his oxygen machine and walker in the Morton Combs complex.

Ouch thats cold....but i do think LCC made a much wiser choice than KCC....LCC got a coach on the rise in the state and KCC got an old coach that wants one more shot only becasue they have a good team, not a good reason to hire a coach.

I cant remember exactly what year he retired , but it hasn't been all that many years ago.

Will he still be able to relate to the young men and the style of ball that is played today? I like the idea of having a coach that has had success, but when they have been away for a long period of time, they lose touch of the mentality of the athlete.

Fraley will do fine at KCC. He knows how to coach and has won a state championship.

I haven't seen him in many years, so I dont know what kind of repore he would have with the kids or what kind of style that he even plays now. I know that his coach was also my coach in high school, although he is my senior by a few years. We always played the similar uptempo full court man to man press , transition game that is preferred today. Whether or not he still adhered to that type game in his latter years of coaching is something that I dont know. Perhaps kyrifle knows better than I, as he is one of the most informed and intelligent posters on here.

Remember when he was at Powell Co. Good coach then. He will do a good job at KCC.

I heard they offered it to him and he said he excepted the offer, but on his way home, the people in Knott County changed their mind and decided to go another way. I heard they were still looking at hiring BB King just to coach. Rhett Gibson is still 2nd in line and Cavanaugh is still 3rd. They wanted to get a big name, but none other than Fraley was going to come to Knott. Fraley still may end up here, but they have changed their minds 3 or 4 times over the weekend. They have no idea what to do with this hire. If they would think about what it means to these kids, this would of been over a long time ago! Good luck getting a coach, hope they decide soon!

No disrespect to Dave Fraley, BB, Cavanaugh, Rhett or anyone else, but Knott Co. has one of the best coaches in the mountains already coaching in the school system. He has teams that always overachieve and is well respected throughout the region and was named the KABC 14th region coach of the year for this past season. Could someone please explain why Jeff Honeycutt has not been considered for this job? Or has he been considered? I think this would be a great hire for KCC and would be a great chance for Honeycutt to get to coach on the big stage at Rupp.

I mentioned the same thing a lot earlier in this conversation, but I'm sure Coach Honeycutt wants nothing to do with all this mess. He is happy right up their in Cordia. Knott done him wrong to many times to even think about coming over their again. He is too great a guy and coach to get involved with that political mess!

Is there any chance that Harold Combs will come out of retirement and coach Knott County??

If thats the case its going to be fun when Perry and Knott play

Honeycutt wouldnt be a bad hire.

HAROLD COMBS come back and coach? Is this some kind of Joke????? He had the best team in the 14th Region when he coached at Napier in 92. Scheduled a game with OAK HILL ACADEMY the last game of the year and lost by 50 or 60 and killed his teams confidence and then lost to Buckhorn in the first round of the district tournament. That man couldnt coach a biddy league team. He is scum of the earth.
05-18-2009, 02:15 PM
Coach Fraley can still coach and I have no doubts in my mind that he could take that program and win. But he will get rid of the parents and the outside interference and from I what I read on here the parents and the powers to be are not ready to give up that power. To bad for KCC they have a great team of kids but the politics will destroy the TEAM and they will not achieve the greatness they could if left alone.

Fraley has officially been introduced as the head coach of the patriots as of today.

Congrats on the Patriots new hire. Hope everything works out well for them and their new coach. Glad to see this thing is finally over. Glad to see the trigger has finally been pulled on a coach. I'm sure the kids will be excited to meet him and see how everything is going to be run.
