Something everyone should read

Football is a contact sport and can get dangerous at time. People get hit hard. And all the fans want their team to see a big hit.. It gets the momentum flowing.. I am one of those people who like to see those hits happen, i love it when someone gets their bell rang. However at tonite's game I got a rude awakening. Those hits, while fun to watch, can be extremely dangerous. But the worst thing to watch is a cheap shot. I can't stand it when anyone lays a cheap shot on someone.. Tonight I saw my little brother become a victem of a cheap shot, and i almost saw his dreams of playing football at the next level go down the drain.. and it broke my heart to watch him on the way to the hospital.. He was drilled in the back about a second or two after the whistle, and he crushed a muscle under his collar bone.. The doctor said he might be able to play next week but they have to check him out again..
Now you guys might say something like if ya can't take it don't play. well let me be the first to say that he can take more hits than almost anyone i know.. But for all you players out there, and parents of players, you need to know that cheap shots are a chicken's way of hitting.. I know sometimes people get caught up in the moment or whatever, but sometimes it is completely uncalled for.. and injuries can occur, serious injuries... So i want to tell all players out there to just keep it under control.. Cause how would you feel if someone came in behind you and busted your guts out, just because he was pissed off..

This is a shame. What team does your brother play for.
#3
Pike Central..
#4
I heard some people complaining on here last week about a particular team throwing some cheap shots.
#5
CTD.. Hows your brother doing. Did the refs throw anyone out of the game for this.
#6
No.. a flag was thrown, a personal foul.. He's asleep right now. we just got home from the hospital a little while ago..
#7
Well tell him I hope he feels better. I wish kids would realize that they could potentially paralyze or even worse kill people when they hit them in the back blind side. Especially after the play has been blown dead.
#8
I hope your brother is okay CTD.. i will pray for him to have a speedy recovery
#9
Thanx.. QQ get on aol..
#10
I wish him the best.

i hate cheap shots it takes away from the game i think, i hope he gets well soon plus hitting in the back is just cowardly anyway i always wanted people to see me comin haha so they knew who had just ran them over
#12
haha It's not as bad that way camper, but after the whistle blows and you are just kind of hanging out or getting up, then out of no where you eat dirt.. that just isn't right.
#13
hope ya bro gets ight man I wasnt at the game what happened?
#14
Hope he's doing better CTD.
#15
I hope he will recover soon and that this doesnt persuade him from followin his dream of playin football.. our prayers and thoughts are with him , and hope this brings a lot of awareness to people out there.

The same thing happen to me in a game back in the 80's when I played against another power team in the mnts well guess you could say the state also. I was down covering on a punt when I was hit int the small of my back by an oponnent. He celebrated even though he also got the flag and a 15 yard penalty. I didnt move. I didnt feel anything from my waist down. I was loaded and taken to the hospital and after some medical attention I was to be moved from the original stretcher to one of the hospitals bed to be sent to x ray. When they went to move me my back popped and I began to get the feeling back. Felt like pins sticking in my legs and hips. Sure was a scary experience to me. I think something needs to be done with this. If you hit someone with your helment in a that way suspension should be immediate. I know that sometimes legal hits do this but when you are hit from behind like that with an intent to injure I feel there needs to be more than a yellow flag and fifteen steps. That is like telling players "Hey we can take out their best player and it is only gonna give them a first down." I think parents hold back a lot of kids that could make big differences in a lot of our local schools for these same reason. They see these things happen and wont allow their kids to be a part of the team. This is something that khsaa needs to look into and make some changes to protect our kids. God be with your brother taxi he is in our prayers. Hope he is ok now and no future effects are felt. Me myself hurt ever day when I am working.

I seem to recall the same thing.

Hope he is doing better...I was there but didn't see the hit. Pike Central missed him after he left the game.
I hope all is well.

Hope that all is well CTD. These sorts of things happens in all sports and in football it is more dangerous because the players are stronger and out to do more harm it seems. This should not discourage him from futher play, hopefully this makes him more determined to do his best. Hopefully no long term effects came with this, I will think about him and hope that his recovery comes as soon as possible.

I hope everything goes well for your brother...
We went through the same thing last week...
#22
i hope he has a fast recoverary best wishes to ur bro.. i hate late hits to when i played we were always taught if they hit u with cheap shots dont do it back..
#23
i hope everything is well with ya brother
#24
I hope everything is alright with brother. I myself think that cheap shots are stupid and immature. But he will be in my prayers and I hope that he continues to play football. Good Luck!

Hope he gets better soon, CTD

Well the good news is, he will be fine, but there is a possibility that he won't be able to play against Sheldon Clark.. We have to go back to the doc sometime this week, and find out.. He's still in some pain when he moves his arm, but hopefully that will all be worked out, by friday.. We thank everyone for their prayers. And he is still goin to try to finish out this season and play college ball somwhere..

I really think its time for the KHSAA to be notified. Something has to be done before someone gets hurt....

CTD, what exactly is a crushed muscle, i have heard of tears, sprains, and bruises, but i dont think i have ever heard of a crushed muscle, it's probably one of those 3 things, I just dont think that I have ever heard of one before, lol. Tell your brother that if he lets an injury keep him out of college football he will regret it for the rest of his life, because I kno alot of people who easily could have played college ball but decided not to and now they kick themselves every time they think about it. what number is your brother CTD, I will talk to some coaches and see if I can get him some looks from colleges.

He is number 65 middle linebacker, and right tackle i think.... the doc said it was a crushed muscle.. i hadn't heard of it before either.. and he wasn't goin to stay out of football because of the injury.. He just didn't think he would be able to play becasue of it..
