What is everyone's top 10 at this point?
04-14-2009, 11:54 PM
This is a blind guess because I haven't seen several teams but I''ll be brave and try it but keep in mind I haven't seen a few.
1. Lawrence Co. - They return a strong nucleus.
2. Johnson Central - Very good.
3. Paintsville- A dangerous team.
4. Belfry - Pretty closely matched with Paintsville but has a young pitching staff and will get better as season goes on.
5. Pike Central - Has beat a couple teams and played Belfry close.
6. Pikeville- Is young and has potential.
7. East Ridge- Has a nice mix of players.
8.Sheldon Clark- Seems to be very up and down this season
9. Shelby Valley- Much improved but major drop off when Cody Varney isn't on the mound
10. Allen Central - Can be dangerous when the right guy is on the mound.
I'm sure I'm leaving out an obvious choice so forgive me if I do. I would put Phelps up there but without Stiltner pitching (and he can't this year) I don't think they could make a run. Haven't seen Prestonsburg, just realized I left them out and am too lazy to go back and see if they belong I might put them at 10 a and b with AC.

I agree with the first 4. But, after that it is a toss up.

Definitely the top 4, and when it comes down to it, I think those Top 3 are where the 15th winner will come from without a doubt. LC and JC are clear favorites, but Paintsville is very capable of winning it also. Belfry is definitely #4, but I think there is a drop-off from Paintsville to Belfry, then a very large drop from Belfry to the 5 spot. Paintsville has actually got me worrying that they could be a very hard team to deal with in a month or so.

Paintsville beat Belfry with 2 ninth graders (Vanhoose (2), Sublett (4)) on the mound. Then closed with a Senior (Cyrus).

This was only Belfry's 2nd or 3rd game... I do believe Paintsville had already played 5 games at this point????.....
Belfry can hit both Vanhoose and Sublett (proven in the Jr. League last year) but I have to say that Cyrus to be a "little thing" does very well on the mound....
I would say that when the two meet again (and they do at Belfry within a couple of weeks).... it will be a different ballgame....... Trash talk between Belfry and Paintsville has been a hot thing on here for the past couple of years... Especially with the competition at the LL and Jr. League fields. These young men are all grown up and playing on a different level now.... They can go no where but up!!! I look for the talent on BOTH teams to be improving as the season progresses.... I can hardly wait!!!!

I beg to differ. Paintsville had only played 3 games and Belfry was the fourth. As far as them facing them in Jr. League. They did not. They only faced Sanor, who is from JC. The year before they faced Vanoose once and he beat them and they only faced Sublett for 4 pitches and two outs and Paintsville won that one as well.

Where, may I ask did you get your information on how many games Belfry had played??? Please.... take time to look it up! I have BOTH teams record thus far and it didnt' take me 2 minutes!

Hold on just one second here honey. You're the only one getting feathers all in a ruffle. Belfry Wins stated a fact tha PHS beat a FROSH. I stated a fact that PHS also throwed 2 FROSH.
You then came back with non facts. Saying that Paintsville had played 5 games. And if you will RE-READ my post. I stated another fact. "Paintsville had only played 3 games and Belfry was the fourth.". This says that Belfry was Paintsville's fourth game. You are the one getting you panties in a wad. Not, me.
And you can go look at your records. I can guarantee you that Vanhoose nor Sublett threw against Belfry last season. They threw against Knott Co. the day prior.
Now, you just jumped on to me for stating facts. All I did was state that PHS had thrown two FROSH. You are the one that posted non-facts and brought up JR. League. NOT I. :dontthink

But here is the thing and my reasoning, and I'm srue you will agree. Paintsville still only scored 6 runs on Williams. So even if Paintsville threw their ace and shut out Belfry that game then it would still be close. And some of the runs were unearned, but errors is part of the game.
With both aces throwing it would be a good game. Which the pitcher you guys faced could very well be the ace before the year is done, he's got a lot of talent and that was his first start.
But yeah I wasn't trying to make anything out of it, I just think Belfry and Paintsville are pretty even. Both have a lot of young talent as well.
