I think he had to test the waters. I don't think he or Meeks will hear what they want from NBA scouts and will return for next season. The way coach Cal likes to put points on the board they could really improve their draft position, like UNC's Ty Lawson did this year.
04-13-2009, 01:35 AM
Yeah, I think they will benefit from Coach Cal...... They will not be lottery picks, so they need to come back...
04-13-2009, 01:38 AM
i dont think meeks and patterson are ready for the nba but if they can get drafted high then the best of luck to both of them

Patterson is projected in top 15.. I think he is gone.. But that will mean Orton will most likely stay..
04-13-2009, 03:43 AM
I believe it will sure hurt his career to leave right now because there is so much he needs to work on before he is ready for that level.

Yes, but he is a "project" player, one that will develop in the NBA if he leaves, if he stays another year, gets help from Cal that he needs, he's top 5 next year.

I could not agree more.

I agree.. I think he would be too.. But I think he'll see the money signs and leave..

I hope he comes back.

Whatever Jodie does he'll do

I think Patterson might want to rethink his decision because there is no way he is ready for the NBA as evident by his play this past seaosn. The best thing both he and Meeks can do is test the waters but neiter are ready . A year under Coach Cal would do both a world of good as far as improving their overall games.

What they don't realize is that if they stay another year and leave when they are better suited for it, they would go higher and make even MORE money. I've never understood that about guys that try this. Sure the dollar signs and zeros might light their eyes up but wouldn't you rather have college glory for another year and pull down an even bigger paycheck?

If a student at UK majoring in business had a job offer for a million dollars; most students would take the job and forgo finishing their degree. 99% of people go to college to earn a bigger pay check. I do not blame the players for leaving and taking the money. Not everyone enjoys the classroom work and if given the opportunity to make good money without having to go to class, will take the money.

A lot of players take the money and run due to the possibility of getting a serious injury, destroying their ultimate dream of going pro. This has happened on many occasions in the past.
Look at former Duke guard Jason Williams (who was one of the better college guards I have seen in the last 10 years). Of course, he injured himself in a motorcycle accident, but this severe injury ruined his dream of playing in the NBA.

IMO this circumstance holds no water, with a dream and talent such as his he should have never been on a motorcycle JMO...However, I see where you are going with this and completly agree, especially with Pattersons two college injury prone seasons. His mom however does push the issue of his school so I think she will have more say in this then he will LoL. I think it would be in his best interest to stay as it would for Meeks also. Should be an interesting few months to see what happens.

The longer this take the more I see him not even testing the waters.

If both are 1st round picks, take the money and run.

True injuries can happen but there are many Scotty Thurmans out there too. Kid leaves Arkansas as a very good player and they finished the NCAA well, he declares and stays in then never made it.

Actually, there is 4 rounds. The first 2 are the only ones televised though. The 3rd and 4th are the next day

If I were going to be a first rounder and had guaranteed millions in front of me...I wouldnt have to think about it twice.

I hope he don't leave UK.

Ty Lawson, is 10x better then Meeks is. Lawson don't walk the ball up, he can pass, and put points up. But this is about Patterson, he will be back next season. If he get draft it will be in the 3rd round or 4th round. Both of them will be back next year.

Only 2 rounds in the NBA Draft, how many people don't know this, jeesh, I've seen this clarified like 10 times on this site.

I hope that Patterson don't go. My son just got a Nike Patterson UK jersey. He is very proud of it.
