what is your opinion on ron blume, is he as good as everyone says he is?
10-12-2005, 01:39 PM
Blume is an excellent high school RB, however, I dont think he could make much of an impact anywhere in college outside of NAIA

Ron Blume is as good as the talk you hear! Without a doubt the best RB in the mountains.

He is a very good high school RB, but his ability is sometimes hyped up by the fans of Johnson Central.
Nothing wrong with that, but I have seen quite a few better RBs in the mountains over the past 5 or 6 years.
However, he may very well be the best back in EKY this year.

I think he is the best RB in EKY this year but his size or lack of will probably keep him on the NAIA level if he chooses to play college football. I would love to see him go to Pikeville College. A future backfield of Blume and Howard would be nice and they are both home grown kids.

sorry to burst anyones bubble but howard is isn't playing running back he is playing linebacker behind 2 sheldon clark boys!!!!! and one was a high school qb znd he isn't even smelling the field
i agree that ron blume is a gr
eat high school running back but i don't even know about naia i played at pikeville college and the talent level is the best in all of naia as far as skill positions go
the running back corp is very deep leonard moore a senior for pikeville last year ran a 4-3 40 laser timed and was very strong ......outrageously(not sure of spelling) strong

This year he is the best back in the mountains, but I have also seen better backs from Eastern Kentucky. He is your good high school football player. I think he could play some college ball somewhere anything from D2 down IMO.

Not bursting my bubble I just haven't been to a Pikeville College game this year. Are the coaches planning on keeping Howard at LB or will he move to RB? As far as him not smelling the field that will change IMO, lets all remember that he is only a freshman and I look for him to have a good career at Pikeville College before he graduates.

not trying to go back at you i was talking to everyone about howards situation
just still a little of the fight left in me after giving up the game i guess lol.

Howard has been out with a back injury for a month.
But he was playing LB this year and was not starting.

Glad you asked because I couldn't figure it out either. Howard is the best player I have seen in EKY in a while and the best RB I have seen since Brent Coleman. If he is healthy he should be seeing some playing time IMO.

it was about the post where i said sorry to burst anyone's bubble
i was directing it mainly to the belfry fans who thought that howard was the greatest thing since sliced bread. he was very good but who wouldn't have the numbers he had when they only threw the ball like 12 times a year and ran it 60-70 times a game

and as far as seeing the field at pikeville college i seriously doubt it the talent level is too great there as far as runing backs go

LOST_ARTIFACT Wrote:If Howard is the best why is he at PVille and Jones starting at UK ??????
One word SPEED. I didn't say Howard was the best college prospect in EKY last year. When I saw Belfry play Howard was the best RB in the Belfry backfield but both of them are great backs. Jones has freaskish athleticsm though and has a chance to play on Sundays someday but as far as high school RBs the past 2 years at Belfry I would take Howard over Jones. As far as defense I would take Jones but Howard was also a good LB.
10-12-2005, 11:22 PM
That's a good question LA. However i do agree that Howard was the better player while they were at Belfry.. Maybe it's the future potential level that got Jones the Scholly to UK.. I personally think that Howard could have done better than PC. not downing Pikeville or nothing, but i just think he had the potential to do bettter..

Don't be mad because he was a better high school player than you.
In short, don't hate the player, hate the game.

The only thing the Pikeville RBs have on him is a darker skin tone, which means a lot more than it used to when it comes to college and pro athletics.
Which is also one of the main reasons he didn't go to a bigger school in the first place. He was told more than once he was "too white" to play RB.
10-12-2005, 11:31 PM
i do agree that howard was the better of the 2 running back had the rare combo of speed and power with some lateral moves and he was a good lbh
but like crazy said jones had the better upside better speed and athleticism more opportunity at a d-1 school than howard because he has the potential to play multiple posoitions

not hating on anyone...this is a site to post your opinions and for sports enthusiasts to compare diff aspects of the game and for the statement he was a better player than me we will never because i never played him i graduated in 03 the year before sc dropped to 2a if my memory serves me right belfry beat sc by 1 td i think (i am not for sure) sc one good rb and a qb
their fb quit the team the week before
i played o and d line and there wasn't anyone on belfry's o or d line that could carry my jock strap
