What do you expect out of BS in '09?

They were very impressive last year. Do not know what they lost from last year, but if they return alot, expect them to do well even though they jump up a class. I think questionable coaching will hurt them though.

They did have 7 or 8 sign to play college ball.

This will be a great year for Bryan Station. Possibly a run at the State Title.

All the best to Bryan Station this year in 6A and I hope they can compete if not knock off the all mighty X or T. But I just don't see it happening. I will be rooting for the Station. X and T have too many players. They will keep coming at you. The second and third string are every bit as good as your first string. Sorry but that is just the way it is.

I see it the same way that you do tradition. Station had a very nice team with some really good senior players. But they couldn't knock off Highlands even with Highlands helping them. And while I'm a huge Highlands fan, there is almost no way we could have beat Trinity last year.

But that was last year, I realize. Trinity and X lost some very good players for sure. But they do that every year, yet reload with some very good players. Perhaps not on the level of Whiting, but nonetheless, very good. And with their coaching staff, Trinity has to be a favorite with X to win 6A. I hear that X may again be the preseason favorite, but that hasn't worked out too well for them recently so I won't be surprised if it's Trinity again. I too hope that Station beats them for the title, if for no other reason than selfish ones as I want Highlands to tie Trinity for the most titles. But I just don't think that's going to happen. Station will again be good, just not good enough to beat X and T, which they would have to do this year to win state. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Bryan Station should be very good. Plus this is their 3rd or 4th year with their new coach.

I'm not sure how many starters they lost from last years team, but they always seem to big and physical, they have a very good coach that has them on the right track. I look for big things from the Station in the next few years.

Coaching was very questionable in the game I saw last year. Coaching cost them the game against Highlands.

Maybe coaching is what created the near upset of the unquestionable best team in 5A last year.

Coaching is what cost them the game. BS had the better athletes, but HHS had the better coach with good athletes. I said it last year and I'll say it again, I would have loved to see HHS coaching staff coach last years BS team!

By the way, I was sitting near the BS fans in that night and the people I was talking to had nothing good to say about the coach, so I am not the only one that thinks this. I have also heard from alot of HHS fans that feel this way.

Coaching at Highlands and coaching at Bryan Station is like two different countries. Athletes are only part of the equation.

Have to respectfully disagree. I don't know that Station as an overall team had the better athletes. Bigger is not always better (and Station was blooming huge). I do think at the several positions where Station had the better athletes, Station tried to set up and capitalize on one on one matchups. They successfully executed time after time quick passes to the slot receivers or dump passes to the running back and let those kids effectively use their quickness against the Highlands defenders in open space. Brilliant coaching by Station in my opinion.

I will agree that on Station's defense, particularly the secondary, there were some mental lapses (particularly allowing Collinsworth to be so open on the game winning touchdown pass). Don't know if that was due to poor coaching or poor execution by the Station kids or just excellent play by Collinsworth.

If you think that poor execution is always the product of poor coaching, then you'd have to likewise believe that Highlands' very poor execution in that game (fumbles, stupid penalties, etc) was due to Highlands having poor coaches (which of course flies in the face of the position that Highlands coaches could have done better coaching Station's players than Station's coaches did).

In my opinion, this game was only close not because of Station's coaches, but rather because; 1. Highlands made more mental mistakes than in any game that I've ever seen them play; 2. it was Josh Conner's first real game back in action and he wasn't ready for it; 3. and we had one of our best offensive linemen out the entire game, which forced Laber to play guard for the first time this year while also playing the entire game at lber. As good of a job as Laber did, he wasn't as good as the regular starter and his inexperience affected the timing of the offensive line (which means a drop off on the O line play) plus by going both ways for the first time all year in that game, he wasn't as effective as normal on defense. After the game and after having watched the game tape about 20 times (seriously), I felt we were a 2 or 3 td better team than Station.
