I think the 312 for Hazard may be an older figure. I think Hazard has just under 300 students at the present time.

Don't they do both. I know the all A schools have a state title a little over half through the season. Like Hazard. They go to the all A state tourney about every year and are in the sweet 16.

Yeah, these are 2006-2007 numbers...most recent I could find.

I like the way it is. I think it takes away from the totality of winning a state championship to have 5 or 6 other classes.

If you're the best, then you're the best...if your school is smaller and just can't get it done, sorry about your luck. Try again next year. (Elliott at #15 is a perfect example...their 332 students puts them 1600+ behind Eastern at #1, yet most would consider Elliott one of the favorites to win and the same goes for Corbin and Shelby Valley.)

Atleast by winning the Sweet 16 these teams can say definitively that they are the Kentucky State Champion unlike other states where you never know what the difference is between the team that won the 5A title, the 1A title and the 3A Independent school title. (It's a little out of control if you ask me...play the game, and the last team standing is the champion...period.)

1 State Champion is plenty.

I tend to agree. Unless there is some unforseen reason or special circumstances I don't understand where another day would hurt. Only reason I can find is that it would cost too much more money to have Rupp for another day for just one game.

Completely agree here. I hate to hear people say that so and so won the "All A, big deal, that's not the real state title." IMO, to shut people up and prove that you're the best there doesn't need to be a division of classes. Makes a little harder for the smaller schools, but when they do win....man, it's something to be proud of.

Well I'll tell you one thing, if Elliott was to win the "Real" state title, guess what, Valley will be the only in state team to beat them, and Valley will still have their own state title to flash.

According to our principal, Hazard has 286 students in the top four grades this year! We are really proud of our school and consistently rank in the top percentage in most activities in which we compete. For instance: fifth in academics for 2007 and 2008; in the finals in Class A in football; sixth in the state in the state band competition; won the regional basketball tournament three out of the last four years; and the list goes on. Not bad for such a small school!

i like it the way it is. it makes it alot harder for the smaller schools but it also makes it more special. the way it is right now we all get to play at rupp arena. if we go to class championships then we will have too many schools and will have to spread it out. i say we keep it the same.

This topic was discussed until it was beaten into the ground a few weeks ago. The All-A Classic uses their own criteria, which only includes students in grades 10-12. As for the exact cutoff point, I'm not sure.

I think Valley would fit into it, their Freshmen class is about 150 kids I heard. That's about 550 kids in 10-12.

I never said Valley didn't meet the criteria........... But when the All (A) started, it was for small schools. Valley is a "Big School" in Eastern KY. particularly when you start talking all "A". They are a very, very fine team, but don't let your prejudice overrule the truth!!!!!!!
