Interesting scenario. Coach Kelly Wells is at Pikeville College and Im sure he knows both teams well. I wonder who will benefit more from his knowledge. Mason where he used to coach or SV (he and Booher are good friends). Could possibly make a difference.

When it comes to basketball you can't say that a team will win because they beat the team that beat another team. Every game is different depending on the teams and the mismatches and so forth. So it's not logical to say logically a team will win. But i'm pulling for valley. Good luck to both.

Mason seems to be playing good basketball at the right time...
I'll say they win by 6

That's why I didn't say I'm picking them because of it, I said the logical choice is Valley because of what happened. I think Valley will win because they have the experience, they have a leader, and they have the size to compete. Down state they let you play, East KY refs don't know how to officiate against big men.

I'm pulling for Valley in this, what could be the most exciting first round match up of the Sweet 16. However, I don't think Valley has ever won a game at Rupp....so I'll take Mason by 3.
03-11-2009, 12:25 AM
Mason has played an extremely difficult schedule and is getting better each game...however I have not seen a team yet that can force Justice to give up the ball (this includes watching a few games over the past couple seasons...examples include Dunbar, Jefferstown, Henry Clay and Elliott County to name just a few)...Shelby Valley is tough to beat when Justice controls the ball...Shelby Valley by 7...

I have a good feeling about this one. Seems that every time we go we get a terrible draw. I think we can win this one though.
SV 74
Mason 67

Middleton will give SV fits. Setty is another tough matchup for them. To me Pawsat may be the key to this game. He brings a toughness that is needed for a team to match the intensity of the SV defense.
I'm kind of torn on this one. May be the best game of the first round and that is saying something after looking at the matchups.

Figured you'd just go ahead and say you want Mason to win.

I know how to differentiate between the two.

Nope, he's scared of Valley winning even bigger in a rematch.
I don't know what would be sweeter, the two meeting in a rematch and Valley winning again, then hearing all the excuses for that game, or the two not meeting and all the Elliott fans having to live with Valley beating them and not getting to redeem themselves.

I'm not sure we would win round 2 against Elliott. I think its a toss up. I think Mason is a tall task also. There are alot of teams I would have preferred to play.

Guys honestly I could careless. I have picked things the way I see them this year and you continue to fret over it.
Elliott County has their own roadblock to get to the second round. Anderson County and Mason County may be just as good of a matchup as Shelby Valley and Elliott County.
If there is a rematch, thats great. Should be a great game.

Shew I dont know what to do, I want to go to the game Sat if Valley advance's but there is not a gurantee. I cant ask off for both days (thurs,Sat) and it sounds like its gonna be a tough matchup for Valley in the 1st round.. oh what to do, what to do lol.

Actually they would be playing the Elliott/Anderson winner on Friday if they were to advance...

I think that this game may come down to free throw shooting. Valley shot them good in the last game of the regions, but very bad during the All A. I still feel like Valley will come out on top.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

I think It's Valley's to lose...Both teams are great and it should be an awesome game but IMO they have a lot more poise and control of the ball.
Key for SV will be if they can keep their players out of foul trouble. If they can manage the fouls then all should be well.. If not then it could be a struggle.

I forgot about the Pawsat angle. Even thouh he gives up some height his physicall toughness will negate that advantage and will be a problem for SV. I retract my earler score prediction. I still think SV will win but not by much.

I think this game is a toss-up. A couple of things scare me about this game. One is the fact that Valley has never won a game at Rupp and getting over that hump is always hard. The other one is the fact that Mason has been there many times before and after all is the defending State Champion.
I just hope Valley comes ready to play and isn't in awe of the experience. However, I don't think they will be in awe because of some of the big games these boys have played in throughout their careers. I also think the All A experience will help.
Good luck boys!

Mason has size big guard @6'4" and 6'6"& 6'7" forwards and surely reigning state champs gives them experience and they know how to play down state, so this is some real logic. you might want to re-think your logic?:please:
