Csi

Does anyone watch the show?

Is anyone currently in school for a forensic or criminal justice related career?

What interests you about forensics and criminal justice even if you do not attend school for it?

I find this to be a VERY interesting field of study and plan to major in Forensics. I currently have a class of Forensic Science and although CSI is not exactly like real life, I find it extremely interesting. They speed up the processes but it gives an accurate depiction of technology and methods, just not timing.

I'm in a forensic science class. We were doing handwriting analysis and footprints before I wrecked, one of my buddies informed me that we were doing a big crime scene thing right now though, I saw pics of it and it looks pretty good. I watched CSI the other night...I like the show I just can't ever catch it on.

I watch CSI compulsively. I've seen darn near every episode of the Las Vegas series. I am not studying forensics though. I am going to school to be a high school math teacher.
#4
I don't watch
I'm majoring in Criminal Justice

i like CSI NY and Vegas, never have got into the Miami one....stuff like that really interests me, i love all those dang shows on discovery and a&e.....forensic files, american justice and stuff like that.
#6
The ones on Discovery and A&E are more accurate depictions but they are more criminal justice than forensics IMO. I like The First 48, Forensic Files, Cold Case Files, and all of that stuff as well though Mr. I.

I watch Forensic Files and the New Detectives all day when I don't have to go to work. Really great shows and really depicts the LONG time table each case actually takes.
#8
We always watched the first 48 in class.. i like it.. and i always watch the shows on court tv
#9
I can say I have never watched a series of CSI....but i love FBI FILES on discover channel and first 48 hours is awsome too
#10
On CSI it shows them getting DNA processing done in under 15 minutes and on average it takes the KSP months to get theirs done...

We are going to go to the Central Crime lab, has anyone else been there?
#11
Anything that has to do with forensics is awesome
#12
yea i watch it. CSI and CSI miami
love em
#13
but still its an awesome show
#14
I love CSI, just wish that there was a show that depicted a forensics lab accurately and was fun at the same time.
#15
Yea...tribe that would be awesome. Hey you know what else would be pretty cool...if there was some way that SF and ER would work together since they both have forensic science classes to make like a really big crime scene and we all have to work together to solve it...that is if it happened when I got better...
#16
That would be pretty cool but the distance apart would probably keep them from it. I would say that your class could go on the tour the same day as us or something but they only take groups of 25 through the lab at a time so we have to break it up into 2 groups ourselves.

The Kentucky State Police are going to be setting up our mock crime scene but I am not for sure on the location as of yet. We did blood splatter experiments in the classroom so far along with latent prints before that. Other than that we have covered ballistics and trace evidence.

Right now we are going over the JFK shootings and the sniper theories...
What about you?
#17
We did a mock crime scene last semester in Pikeville.. it was fun
#18
Yea the distance will keep them from not doing it which even if our two schools were much closer they probably still wouldn't do it because well...Floyd county is stupid like that. The last thing we did before I wrecked was handwritting analysis and footprints...I talked to one of my friends though and she said they are finishing up on a crime scene...that makes our 2nd one so far this year that I know of...the first one sucks and we didn't really have to think on who the culprit was. I have no idea what we are going to be doing after they finish the crime scene though...it's untelling...

It's really cool that the KSP is setting up your alls that's awesome, I would LOVE that. As for the lab thing my teacher talked about us going and she also mentioned something about the body farm but this being floyd county I doubt that we'll go anywhere...it's hard enough get them to let us go to Prestonsburg for something much less out of county...lol... But from what you mentioned above it sounds like your all's class if way ahead than ours...you're lucky!

We are starting handwriting analysis Monday.
We haven't covered TOO much but went into detail and did the labs with each subject. This is my teacher's first year covering forensics and we have no textbooks nor much experience so we are doing all that we can. Her brother is a state trooper though so that helps. I LOVE that class.
#20
Yea that would have to help. This is also my teacher's first year and we don't have nya textbooks or anything either. With each topic all we do is take notes, do a handout and that's it. We have covered a pretty good amount for it to be her first year. My teacher told us in the beginning that she didn't know anything about forensic science but she thought it'd be a cool class to have and she also stated numerous times that she learns the material a night before we do.
#21
That is exactly how it is with my teacher.
She uses the Internet and stuff and finds notes and handouts and we learn stuff from them.
Do you have any handbooks of the methods used in forensics such as securing crime scenes or anything?
#22
I don't know...I know she has two books that she copies stuff from I think but I don't know if she has anything on securing a crime scene...I have notes on it.
#23
That's cool. I would like to have actual textbooks or something instead of using the KSP and whatever info they give us and the Internet but I mean, whatever works.

We watched the JFK assassination on the Zapruder film, if you haven't saw it, I highly recommend it too.
#24
Haven't saw it...havent seen to school since Sept 16 so...
#25
Download it.
Google Zapruder film or something and you will turn up lots of results and you can just view it like that if you want. It is only around 33 seconds or so long. I really liked it because it is just wild. So many questions have been raised about the shootings and the snipers and stuff but the film is all that is really left.

Forensics was not good enough back then to explain much so many people have many theories. Some say that there were more than 1 shooter, even more than 2 snipers. Some say that it had to be 2 because of the number of rounds fired. The government did a test in which the same gun was used and so many marksmen could not set off as many rounds as Oswald did in the short of period of time so they say that it disproves that he was alone.

Others say that because of the location in which he was shot that there had to be a second sniper. Some want to believe that because of the direction of his head that he was shot from the front, but the entry and exit wounds show that he was shot from back to front...

The 'mystery bullet' being the one that passed through JFK's shoulder and out of his wrist and hit another man in the back is something hard to explain but bullets do weird things inside of the body. I wish that they would dig up JFK's remains and let forensic scientists work with them now with all the technology we have.

Anyone have any thoughts on the JFK assassination?
#26
Yea that'd be awesome but I doubt that they will. We have too much for forensic scientist to figure out now with all the muders and violence going on to worry about stuff in the past...I mean they can't really change it and I'm sure th Kennedy family don't want to bring it back up due to pain and heartbreak.
#27
Yea, just made me wonder about it when I watch the tape and heard all of the theories but I agree, it won't be reviewed again.
#28
Very true...if it was to be reviewed again I'd be shocked. But take into consideration the Kennedy family...if I was one of them I wouldn't want to bring it back up due to heartache...
#29
Yea, I agree but then again, some may want to know what happened.
I have the film on my computer and I watched it.
I want to know how many shooters there was.
All the theories make me wonder about alot of stuff.

Have you got to see it yet?

Bullets may do strange things inside a body, but i think for the most part they either shatter the bone or shatter themselves.. I don't think a bullet can have enough velocity to go inside a body, ricochet off a bone and come back out another part of the body. Meaning if it goes in one way a bone may knock it off course and it might come back out the opposite side of the body of which it entered.. But it's not goin to hit a bone pull a 180 and come out the same side of entry.. If it did then wow.. someone has been taking some calcium..
and then some bullets will actually shatter once they make contact with a solid object. but once again.. the fragments won't pull 180's and come back the same way they entered.. My theory... there was more than one gunman..
