Ron Blume in the top backs in eastern ky the last 15 years!
#1
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Mr. Blume should rank in the top 10 running backs to play in the mountains that past decade. The stats he is putting up are top notch against good compitition. My hat is off to him. I think that is pretty good company considering the list. These are the ones i can come up with, Feel free to add if i pass one up. After a week we can add the tallys up and get an opinion of the top for the BGR population. And these are Just opinions. Based on stats, wins, records and competition.

1. Michael West - Lawrence Co.
2. David Jones - Belfry
3. Shawn Robbins - Bell Co.
4. Doug Howard - Belfry
5. Arliss Beach - Ashland
6. Nick Meadows - Lawrence Co
7. Ron Blume - Johnson Central
8. Aaron Boyd - Rowan Co.
9. Jason Nicholas - Ashland
10. The running back on the 91 Ashland team, Juan Thomas? I think is his name, I'm drawing a blank.

I agree that he is probably in the Top 10 in the last decade, but my list would be a little different.

1. Doug Howard - Best combo of speed/power in the last 10 years.
2. Jon Chapman - Turner wouldn't have the TD record if he didn't get hurt.
3 Arliss Beach - Total package as well.
4. David Jones - THE fastest of all RBs mentioned. Ran hard, too.
5. Brent Coleman - Outstanding for a long time. PHS all-time leading rusher.
6. Michael West - Great, but may not have been the best runner on his team
7. Jon Ortega - Possibly better than West.
8. Shawn Robbins - Fast, with a big motor.
9. Ron Blume - Reminds me of Robbins.
10. Marty Reagan - Heart & Soul of Rockcastle's best teams.
10a. Matt Slone - Tough, hard-nosed runner.

No Matt Slone from Pburg??? what's the deal??? he had 2500 yards rushing his SR year, while playing with another 1,500 yard RB and a 2,000 yard QB, if that's not amazing then idk what is.
#4
I knew I forgot somebody!!!

Matt Slone was a very, very good football player.

I am editing now!!
#5
Noone from Pikeville? Coleman, Chapman, Rogers?

I forgot about Coleman.......but Chapman is from Breathitt.

Both should be on there.
#7
Ummm...didn't Chapman graduate from Pikeville? He played there at least :thumb:....and all his KHSAA records list him from Pikeville
#8
Don't forget Brad Tiller from Paintsville/SC, Scott Salyer JC, and Barrett Rodgers from Pikeville.

Yeah, I know all that Beef. But how many games did he actually play for the Panthers?

99% of his football playing career was for the Bobcats.

BTW......If he played that long for Belfry I would want to claim him, too.

Tiller wasn't bad. I work with him now he seems to have slowed down a bit these days. LOL

Just to let you all know the word from Ashland about our running backs. You won't find a single knowledge Ashland fan who would rank Arliss Beach or Jason Nichols above Juan Thomas. Thomas was far and above a much better back than either of the 2 others. Nichols was better Beach.

I wouldn't either, but I thought the title of the thread said the last 10 years.

Thomas played in '90-'91, right??? I've seen tapes and he was just way more man than about everyone on the field.
#13
91 juan thomas is correct.
#14
Juan Thomas was a 1991 graduate, football class of 1990, Ashland's last state championship.
#15
BJ Bryant- South Floyd
#16
David Jones is THE man. The reason I watch UK Football, IMO, an AWESOME running back. Great assest to the Pirates, now a powerhouse for the Cats. Best of luck to him in all that he does.
#17
No Quentin Henson of Lynn Camp? He only rushed for over 7,000 yards and is 4th all time in state history. Scott Russell of Evarts is also a name that should be mentioned.
#18
I had forgotten all about Chapman and Reagan. They were great backs on great teams. I knew there were some that I was leaving off and I by no means intended to. Those are some pretty good names. What about on the early 90 P-Burg teams, I've heard alot about them, what were the names, particulary the year they won state, I've heard alot of people say that might have been the best team they ever saw on a field.

P-burg never won state, but went in 1990 and 2001? i think
#22
what about the guy from lyn camp, henson? He is in the top five for all time rushing yards, touchdowns, interceptions, and avg ypc. or at least he was a couple years ago.

When year did Quentin play LC?

torQQue Wrote:When year did Quentin play LC?

1996 to 1999

LC99 Wrote:1996 to 1999

henson was probably one of the best ALL AROUND players that the area saw in th past decade. his defensive stats were on par with his defensive. plus he was also an all state caliber punter. played against him some, he was absolutely terrifying because of how he could move. his best asset was that with his great speed (4.5 at 6'2, 235) he never lost speed making cuts or moves.
#26
Blume is good, but IMO he's not up there with Howard, Jones, Slone, Coleman, etc.... Does anyone know how many carries he averages per game?
#27
Blume unofficially has 122 carries for 1616 yards and 21 TD's. That's an average of 17 cpg, 230 ypg and 3 tdpg. IMHO, that's Mr. Football stats.
#28
I agree, and there is still almost half a season left. Hopefully he will atleast make an All-State team if his season continues like it has been going, unlike Matt Slone, who deserved it.
#29
wait....1600+ ALREADY!!!! :yikes: :worthy:
#30
Jimmy chaffin from lynn camp has right at a 1,000 with around 75-80 carries
