Not saying PHS will win every time. but the games will be a whole lot closer.
I'm not so sure I agree with you on this, When we lose our seniors this year, we still have some mighty strong sophmores coming up as well. Tiller is going to be good...I agree with that but he is stopable and i know of 3 sophmores that can stop him..and I dont understand what you mean when you say Green wont be able to get double teamed. I like to see both schools do well, and I think the world of three of P-villes players and wish them well.

Another thing, I know football is football...and basketball is basketball...People talking rivalries..well the rivalry with p-ville and JC football program has already ended. Wouldn't you agree that the basketball rivalry is short lived also?

I have been wondering why they are not very many Sr.'s and no Jr.'s Now on the Paintsville team. When they went to team camp during the summer they were many Sr's and Jr's and more soph. Well come to find out if you walk the track at the Rec. center in Paintsville you will see a really good game going on in the evening some really good talented young ball players and who is but none other than the Sr.'s and Jr's that went to camp and did really well for Paintsville but is no longer needed. I guess you could call them the replacements,,,LOL I don't no who they are I just ask around and that is what I was told but I did stand and watch some of the best ball playing i have saw in a while. So this young coach from PHS wanted to only build this young team everyone knows that and I only have good things to say for those young Tigers BUT I do think they left behind some great talent walking in the hallways everyday. Someone get me a league started I found the replacements ,,,LOL

Why say something like that now. Didnt one of your pep rallies wind up on the net. Yeah its really over.

No, it is a district game used for seeding purposes.

Earlier in the year, there was a post saying that P'vill went 10 deep. From what I saw this week and from what I have been hearing, they go 7 deep. (unless they are winning by 30 or sometimes down by 30)

Paintsville probably went 10-12 deep earlier in the year before all of the seniors and juniors quit and/or decided to not come out.

You are right as of now. I think with the youth they have they should go ahead and run 10 deep. Take this year to get as many as you can Varsity experience for the future. Instead of being stuck with just 6 or 7 as in years past.

It is a district game for seeding purposes, just like all the rest of the games with district teams, no more. I agree with the earlier post, with the football game gone, this rivalry is about dead, just another game. I think that is the way the JC people look at it, and from the crowd the P'ville fans had at this game, it looks like they have too!

Congrats JC on the win. Keep your heads up Tigers.

Let me just say that some years one team or the other has considerably more talent than the other. Some years the talent is about even. in the even years, the games are much more exciting. JC has dominated PHS this year for the first time in many seasons. So if the talent of both teams are more even next year, you still think that there won't be much meaning in these games other than seedings?

In the last meeting his shooting wrist stopped him more than anything but he was able to get off his shots at will. JCHS was determined to defend Green hard and with help and double teams in both meetings and were very successful, but losing Bratton, Welch and Conley inside next year will leave only Parker and Tanner inside. That might be enough, but I really have my doubts. Tanner is a great kid but from the games I have seen him in he only tries to use his strength to defend and picks up fouls. He would have to learn more about playing D to be effective IMO. Right now I think he gives some quality minutes but JC can not depend o him by himself for a whole game. JMO though.

I think what all this boils down too is P'ville needs the rivalry more than JC. We feel we have some great players coming up and in good numbers and will be competitive for many years and I think it is just another seeding game for JC. Just like football we have moved on and are concentrating on improving the program and sorry our goal is bigger than beating P'ville, it worked in football. P'ville seems to need the rivalry to drive them so if it works use it.
It depends if you are wearing blue or black and gold glasses, good luck to both teams in the district.

I disagree. Just because Johnson Central swept the series this year doesn't mean that there is no rivalry there. Paintsville has a young team that will be getting better and better. Next seasons games between these two will be very competitive.

I agree they will be very competitive games, but no more so than the games with Lawrence, Magoffin and Sheldon Clark. Sweeping the series this year does not does not in itself mean the rivalry is dead, it was becoming so before that with the loss of football series. The rivalry with P'ville does not drive us like it used too, taking the program to the next level does.

The rivalry is there, and it will always be. Maybe not as intense some years as others, and hopefully not as ridiculous as some years have been. Rivalry is good when kept in perspective. Some people tend to lose their minds over it, and that's when it causes problems.

Guys, I told everyone, and everyone already knew, this is a rebuilding year. Paintsville is paying for only 6 and 7 being played for the last 4 years. The tigers will be ok over time. They have the tradition not to be. But every school has their up years and down years. This year and the first half of next season will be down. I can see them finishing in the top half next season, and maybe back in the top 5 2 years from now. JC, enjoy your wins while you can get them.

Well I can't speak for everyone from JC. As for myself, The "rivalry" between JC and P-Ville just doesn't seem the same to me is all I was saying. The reason I was sayiing that was because it always seemed to stem over from 1 sport to the next and without the Aplle Bowl now it just dont seem the same to me...but like I said thats just me.

I agree with you and I am a JC fan, the Apple Bowl has about killed this rivalry. I think too JC has respect for P'ville but does not use them for a measuring stick anymore.
Warlock do you honestly think JC is going to stand still or run out of talent while the new P'ville kids develop? We have great young athletes on our side of Paint Creek too. We will be there ready when your group develops!

The three sophs haven't had to stop him yet. Next year both these teams will be young. Tanner is young yet and still has a lot to learn. He talks about trying his hand at wrestling, who knows he may not even be playing basketball next season. Either way I wish both these teams well. I like seeing P-ville win except when it is against us lol

Personally I don't care if anyone sees it as a rivalry or not. Paintsville sure doesn't need it. They went to the final 8 (almost final 4) last year and it sure wasn't because they beat JC 4 times. It was because they played many very good teams during the season. As to the Apple Bowl, they should have kept it, but so what. The football programs are on different levels at this time so it was getting ridiculous anyway. I would have kept it but it was no big deal. But I will tell you that given the large JC turnouts for Paintsville games, the big youtube pep rallies JC holds, and the number of posts and passion of the posts on Paintsville and JC threads, it would sure appear to me that the rivalry is still very much alive and well. Paintsville is the school that has moved on, they have never needed JC for anything. It is JC that (at least in the past) has always measured themselves by how they do against Paintsville. Why I wouldn't know? But that is my opinion and I have watched many basketball and football games over the years! When a school goes to the trouble of actually writing a skit, using real people's names in it, reducing it to writing and actually performing it with the administration aware and present to watch, all toward one school and has this performance on school time, that tells me that someone has a chip on their shoulder! I thought it was funny though!
Anyway, best of luck to both teams! Until the day Paintsville is absorbed into the JC school system, JC will always care about how they do against the Tigers!

Good post. The day when the football program set their sights higher than beating P'ville the program moved on. Look for this to happen in basketball. The pep rallys have been more of a P'ville thing and the P'ville top 10 lists posted on cars has to be the worst thing ever done. Everyone knows it was done with the help of P'ville parents, class act. JC fans support their team so a big crowd is not a big deal. All the past P'ville glory is nice to brag about, but it will not score any points in games now. If you want to think the rivalry is there, go on, do not look for the JC fans to be there, we are looking at a different goal now.
