There's been a lot of football here for a week or so since the national signing day, but I found a few interesting basketball nuggets on this evening.

A few local and some national. Remember, in Kentucky next week is the last week of the regular season. Two weeks left in the Indiana boys' regular season.

Tristan Thompson (photo), a Texas commitment and the No. 1 junior in the country according to Scout.com, has been kicked off the team at Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict's. Coach Dan Hurley told Zagsblog.net that Thompson was "kicked off the team for public insubordination." Thompson was averaging 19.1 points and 9.6 rebounds a game. His summer coach Ro Russell told Scout.com he was likely to transfer to another school soon.

The No. 2 ranked player in the Class of 2009 by Rivals, Demarcus Cousins, has apparently narrowed his list to five schools. The former UAB commitment is down to Memphis, Kansas State, Washington, N.C. State and Rice. The list came from his high school coach to Rivals. He had been linked with Kentucky and Louisville in recent months since backing off his UAB commitment.

Covington Holmes star junior Elijah Pittman just has a sprained wrist, according to Cincinnati Enquirer ace reporter Ryan Ernst. Pittman, the team's leading scorer and a top college prospect in the state, injured his wrist in a loss to Boone County on Tuesday.

Think Ballard coach Chris Renner wants his team tested heading into the postseason? The Bruins play at home against Male on Friday and then travel to Elliott County on Saturday. After playing Atherton on Tuesday, the Bruins host Clark County and UK sophomore commitment Vinny Zollo next Friday night.
When the Jordan Brand Game selections came out earlier in the week one glaring ommission was Lance Stephenson. The New York City star scored a career high 50 on the night the selections were announced. He's the No. 1 player in the Class of 2009, according to the Hoop Scooop. North Carolina-bound Dexter Strickland also wasn't one of the 20 All-Americans picked for the game.
The McDonald's All-American teams will be announced on Feb. 18. A lot of rumors on who will - and won't make it - but nothing is official.

Why do you think Cousins is no longer interested in UK or Louisville? I

realize you probably don't have direct contact, just your opinion.

Because his high school coach has said he has narrowed his college choices to five schools and none of the five are UK or U of L.
