Bobby Knight interested in Georgia job?
#1
Add Bob Knight to the names floating around as possible candidates for the University of Georgia Bulldogs coaching job.

Knight's interest in Georgia was reported Saturday by Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist Furman Bisher.

"He doesn't want it to look as if he's pursuing the job. He'd like to be offered it, and if offered, he'd take it," according to a friend of Bisher who did not want to be identified.

Thats what is being reported on ESPN as a big possibility.. Thats trouble for everyone in the SEC.. including us (Kentucky)

I hope he does come to Georgia it just makes the SEC better.

I don't see how it puts UK in trouble...IMO Bobby Knight underachieved at Texas Tech. He may get some recruits but I doubt it changes things that much. Georgia will be better though.

You don't get that many wins without being a good coach. He just needed a better situation. If he comes to Georgia, they will be a top program in the SEC. The SEC will be a dogfight between Kentucky, Florida, Arkansas, and Georgia.

Georgia may be on Bob Knight's mind.

A source close to the legendary coach told the Atlanta Journal Constitution on Sunday that if Knight were offered the Bulldogs job, he would take it.

"He doesn't want it to look as if he's pursuing the job. He'd like to be offered it, and if offered, he'd take it," the source said.

"He doesn't want it to look as if he's looking for work, but I can assure you that he'd like to have the job. It's the idea of coaching a team in the Southeastern Conference that appeals to him. There are just so many things he could do for Georgia basketball. This would be his last stop, and he likes that."

Georgia fired Dennis Felton last Thursday after the Bulldogs got off to a 9-11 start and were 0-5 in the SEC. Associate coach Pete Herrmann was named interim coach for the remainder of the season.

Knight, 68, left Texas Tech in the middle of the 2008 season. The winningest coach in college history with 902 victories coached the Raiders from 2001-08 after a 29-year run at Indiana that ended in controversy. After leaving Texas Tech, Knight has served as an analyst for ESPN.

"I have never said that I wouldn't coach again," Knight said in a statement. "I've simply said in the past, if the right situation came along, I would be interested."

Another name I heard mentioned for the job is Tubby Smith...

Wow I could see that happening in 4 or 5 years the bulldogs would be unstoppable!!

There's another thread of the same going around.

It does not surprise me at all that Bob wants to get back into the coaching game. I'd like to see the General in the SEC, should make things fun.

Oh man would Georgia have a program!

By the way they was talking in the ALL A title game, Bob got the job.... The PG from SV, he is looking at him.... So way would Bobby Knight be looking at players if he not going to coach again.

Bobby Knight is awsome.

He's only shown interest in the job, he has not even been offered the job. Sounds a little premature for Justice to be looked at by a coach who does not have a team....

Bobby Knight is an excellent coach and did wonders for every program he's been to. I looked at his coaching resume and I don't think he's ever had a team with a losing record....the man is tough, demands respect and is a legend. If he takes it, I think he could quite easily get them in the right direction. I've always been a fan of the man and hope things workout for him and whatever he decides.

Tubby already made a statement that he is not leaving Minnesota, and that he wouldn't accept anymore questions about it..

I don't see Knight taking this job. If I remember correctly, when he retired from Texas Tech he said he would only come back and coach at a small schoiol. However Knight in the SEC would make the conference even tougher if he recruits like he's known for.

SEC can't really go anywhere but up.

Bobby Knight might want to go to Georgia, but I heard from ESPN that someone involved with University of Georgia (I think it was the president of the university) had a friend who fired Bobby Knight when he was at Indiana. As a result, the person doesn't like Bobby Knight too much.

He might have to say that right now. As of right now GA got a coach.

He would be a great coach for this Georgia Bulldogs team!

Sure would bring some excitement to the SEC!!!

Bobby Knight confirmed last night that he said he likes the Georgia job, but he said he like that job just as well as saying he likes Duke and UNC. He stated that there have been zero conversations between he and Georgia, and when BK makes a bold statement like that, it can be counted as true. So, I don't think there is too much that can be taken out of all of the media reports right now.
#22
As I stated in the other thread, there is no conversations with BK and Georgia, it has been blown out of proportion, meaning he would like the Duke & UNC coaching job if available. It looks like a statement was made and the media has taken it too far.
#23
Well there are channels that are discussing the possibility that BK ight be inter'd and I would say he would be since he thinks he has 5 or 6 years of good coaching left but he knows it has to be the right team.
JK has style that works very well for thoses that are fully aware of the discipline it takes to make a good team.
AT make it one of the best schools for basketball. MK has made Duke strongDenny did it at Louisville Knight at Indiana and over and over you can name them but most folks fail to understand the drive of a good coach. He would be good for any team he would coach.

Bobby Knight called a talk show host in Alabama and said that he would love to have the Alabama job. Sounds like BK is throwing darts hoping maybe something will stick
