Louisville Eastern 89 - Atherton 66
#1
Eastern handled Atherton, much as was expected but it wasn't until the end of the 3rd and the 4th quarter that they began to pull away to the final margin. Eastern's defense looked suspect tonight, and I suppose that is what a week and a half off will do to you. Offense looked great, behind a few nice dunks by Chris Dowe and some uncharacteristically good 3 point shooting Eastern looked good in that respect.

Eastern scored 29 points in the 1st quarter and followed that up with an anemic 9 point effort in the 2nd quarter. Eastern held a 38-35 lead at the half, but Atherton actually took the lead by one for a few seconds in the 3rd. It is a good thing Eastern had this warm up coming off of that lay off, another more talented team would probably have beat them tonight.

You have to respect the effort that Atherton has displayed all season, for the most part they have played very respectable and have just happened to come up on the short end of things on most occasions. Not sure if it is the norm, but they only brought 7 players tonight and the starting 5 played the whole game until they got into foul trouble.

On a side note, I got to the JV game late but apparently there was a display put on by Eastern. They won the game 80-18, Eastern scored the first 40 points of the game....yes you read that right, it was 40-0 before Atherton scored. Granted Atherton is a less than stellar opponent that speaks worlds of Eastern's JV team, as Eastern's touted sophomores who play alot of varsity minutes don't even play JV.
