Is the end of Pikeville College Football near?
#1
With the current economic situation in our area and the current state of Pikeville College Football and the college itself, Is this the end of Pikeville College Football?

I've heard this for two years and now with the school losing over half of its endowment then I would say some of the sports teams will get the axe. Football is the most expensive sport that the school runs...IF they don't let it go this year then I would look for it to be gone in a year or two. When I played and was in school, with the exception for the last year, Pikeville was ranked nationally, went to the playoffs and were fun to watch....I'd hate to see it go, but they got to do what they got to do....it was started with the intentions of EKY kids getting the chance to play but it has never been like that.

The new President at Pikeville thinks the football program is the worst thing to ever happen to Pikeville College.

Maybe, but the boys who actually go here and graduate and get their college paid for love it, I'm an RA in Wickham Hall so I love the program too, it's helping pay for my college by giving me a job.

I've never been interested in Pikeville College football and quite frankly, could care less if it stays or goes.

LoL, well, this past year, Shelby Valley could have beaten Pikeville in a game, so I guess there's a lot of teams around here that could have.

Like I was stating, the ones who do stay and graduate are very grateful of the program, but there are some bad ones, just like any other place.

There is no way that Pikeville or Valley could beat PC...I know you are comparing them, but use a good team like Trinity or someone....lol. I used to coach there my last season and I got the academic reports for some of those student-athletes....you'd be surprised at the ACT score of many that come in from out of state. It does help those that want to graduate, but you can't make those that think they are going to the league or bigger than the system go to class. That's why you have 100 there in the fall and then only 30 back in the spring. What hurt that program is that they, IMO, recruited color (Bryan) thinking they were going to take them to the promise land quick....you look at the elite nine, the first recruiting class there that built that program to what it was for a few years until Mynatt left. Those boys (Justin "Jutty" Gordon, Larry B, Hank Mullins, Joe Spears, Antwan Brown, Quinton Collins, Derrick "Big Show" Sillas, etc...) all graduated and were embraced by the community because they were great players and even better people that made something of themselves. When they went away with that and those type of kids is where they messed up.

Those guys you listed are great. Now, there were some players who weren't given money this year and left quickly, and these two boys won a state title in HS and had videos on youtube, so not all the boys who leave are thugs or didn't care. There are still some guys here who do want to earn their degree and are good guys, all the thugs get run out by the Spring semester.

That school has been natorious for pulling money without saying anything about it. I wish they would get someone that would turn the program around and run it correctly. Rome wasn't built in a day, your teams like Campbellsville, Georgetown, Cumberlands, etc....all those have been around for 20 years or so. They've established themselves the RIGHT way. Now PC needs to do that also.
