Personally i see very little chance of any players in the 14th region being close to a D-1 player, could there be one dont think so????
Now the Jr Class is somewhat differant but hey are there a D-1 prospect in any class(Fr.-Sr.) in 14th region i doubt it?????
Mountians are really hurting when it comes to basketball players being able to get their education paid for by playing Basketball at D-1 level..

Whitaker is no where near D-1 talent and hes too small anyway..Maggard and Cox are too undersized as well..but if anyone would go it would be Cox

Tate Cox & Josh Whitaker are the only players in the 14th that may draw interest from D1 schools, but neither have the talent or size to compete at that level, because they both are average at defending and handling the ball.
I could see both playing NAIA or at a small D2 or D3 school like Centre.

Realistically you have too put Collins from JBS at the top of the list. No hes not the top player in the region or secon or third at that, but in college his potential, body, and height makes him a legit DI prospect and he's more attractive to scouts because of those reasons. Tate Cox is prolly mid major right now only because of his size and unless Whitaker gains some size and mass in the next little bit he'll be DII or high NAIA level at best. All are great players though, but I was just answering the question ask too the best of my ability.

Don't knock the NAIA or the mid south conference. Matt Walls started last year for Marshall University and does not start for Georgetown College this year. The Mid South Conference is loaded with talent and both Cox and Whitaker would struggle for playing time in that league.

Aaron Charles will play at the next level.

Aaron Charles will not play D 1 ball. Just like the rest of the 14th region players. I agree that Collins from JBS will draw attention because of his size but if he does go D 1 it will be to a smaller name D 1.

Didn't say D1, but he will play at the next level (D2, NAIA, etc...)

Yeah I do agree with that, but by the way you posted it, I thought that you were saying D 1.

Has any colleges expressed interest in Charles?

Several of the smaller in state colleges, some initial interest from EKU but I don't expect that to happen.

So, teams in the Mid-South are better than Marshall?

Tate cox

No, but Georgetown is. Georgetown has had Louisville beat the last 2 times they have played them in the preseason. Marshall doesn't want any of Georgetown.:notworthy

None, IMO. No one with size, except as one poster added earlier, Collins, and I don't think he has the footwork to go D1, but he will get some looks.

Read the post!! I never once implied that the Mid-South Conf was better than Conf USA. You people like to turn crap around on here. What I was trying to imply was you gotta be a pretty good ball player to play for Gtown, Cumberland, Lindsey Wilson, Pikeville and Campbellsville. I do know that Cumberland played Marshall to a ten point game this year and Pikeville lost by only about ten last year to Marshall.
I do believe that those teams in the Mid South can play with most mid majors and win on many nights.
I hope you understand the comment now MR. OUTDOORSMAN

Take my advice, if anyone from the 14th can go play anywhere, I mean anywhere, doesn't matter what level, GO PLAY!! Take advantage of every opportunity you can!! Good luck and I wish all players in the 14th and the mountains, play at the next level, doesn't have to be D1 and you still get that FREE education!

My post wasn't a knock towards the NAIA or to the Mid South Conference.
I know how much talent Happy has at Georgetown each year and it would be a privilage to play Georgetown, Pikeville, Alice Lloyd, UVA-Wise, etc.
There isn't a thing wrong with playing ball at the NAIA level.
ARC Wrote:Aaron Charles will play at the next level.
I wasn't very impressed with Charles when I seen him play a few games at Johnson Central. He has mediocre ball-handling skills, decent shooter, but he does have some size for a point guard.
Not a knock against him either, but NAIA at best for him if anything.

BlackcatAlum Wrote:My post wasn't a knock towards the NAIA or to the Mid South Conference.Just to clarify. at the Johnson Co. tournament Aaron lost his grandfather at the begining and did not stay for the conclusion. May be a reason for a lackluster performance. But ballhandling he is fine, he has been contacted by EKU on serveral instances but no offer. He has recieved many interests and some offers. D1, I dont know but will get a full ride at the next level.

At 6'4' he can shoot, handle the rock, rebounds well, passing is good not great he needs to improve his defense and under the right tuteledge he will flourish.

Tate Cox might go to a very small D1 school.
02-03-2009, 10:44 PM
Tate Cox ain't going no where until next year, he was held back twice and is just a junior this year.

We know, but there's not many seniors worth talking about imo
