East Kentucky Miners
#1
How are they doing this year. It seems you don't hear much about them these days.
#2
CBA's in a lot of trouble. I don't expect the league to be around at all next winter.

Maybe the Miners can join the running joke that is the new ABA. The CBA teams certainly seem to have no trouble handling the ABA opponents.
#3
the ABA teams are terrible. We have destroyed them with ease it seems like.
#4
The ABA is pathetic. The Miners lost to Albany by about 30 tonight, their defense is atrocious.
#5
Sad to hear that.

I'm glad that a semi-professional sport came to Pikeville, but I just feel the wrong sport came to town in all honesty. I think that an arena football team would've been better since there is only one game a week and the attendence would be greater...IMO.

i dont think thats the problem.. i think the main problem is that everyone on the miners, is pretty much ppl that no one around here has heard of, and to be honest no one wants to watch. if they would get some more ex UK or UL players, ppl would wanna watch more. Wayne Turner is a start, but they need to try to get one that was better than that.. otherwise, no one will ever come.

At this time and the economy in the stage it's in...no one can afford $25 a ticket for 4 or 5 nights a week. I agree with getting talent that people know of would be great, but realisticly people can only really afford to go to one, maybe two games a week if any at all.
#9
Tickets are not 25 dollars a piece. They are 10 dollars for the entire lower level, and 5 for the upper level. I have only missed one game all year, and I must say tonight was just not the Miners night. They just couldnt hit anything.
#10
Well they must have changed the prices this year....still can't get people in the stands though. I'm glad that EKY has gotten exposure and consideration for a team of this magnitude, I just think that the football would've worked better.
#11
I went to a bunch of miners games last year, just cause there wasnt really anything else to do some nights lol, and they play ZERO defense, none of the players could shoot outside, and the coaching was horrible. All the points for both teams came off of a player just driving in and making a layup or a weak dunk. I think people would go no matter how bad the economy, because this is such a great basketball area. It's just no one wants to go watch a bunch of guys that aren't any good, play against another group that isn't any good. Especially when you haven't heard of any of them. This is just my honest opinion.

They average 300 and 400 more than any of the other teams. I'm not sure why everyone thinks that no one shows up because apparently they do when compared to the other teams in the league.

Our team this year is really very talented. They just play like an NBA team - no defense. But I think that will change. Because last year it seemed like NO ONE played defense. Apparently tonight, the Miners didn't get the memo that the other CBA teams are going to play defense. This second half of the season should be quite interesting because the talent level of the teams they play will be much better.

People say that kentucky is a basketball state, but eastern kentucky is football, they need a areana football league team, that would really bring a lot of people to the expo center. But this will probably be the last season for the miners. And thats said to say.

Actually, after speaking to one of the players two days ago, the Miners accounty is dry. They didn't have money to pay their employees. The ones that got their checks cashed the day they got paid were okay, but if they waited until the day after all the checks bounced. Saying they are in trouble is an understatement. I don't see them lasting much longer at all, but this is a true story, it came straight from on of the Miner's players that had his pay check bounce when he tried to cash it for insufficient funds. I won't mention his name because of his own personal embarrassment.

Sounds like it is straight out of the movie SEMIPRO. Guess we might see Jay Fiedler dressing up like a miner and dancing pregame.
#16
Wow, I didn't even realize we have a CBA team

NBA = highest level of pro basketball, still completely boring

Miners/CBA = much lower-level of pro basketball

I would pay my money to go see a local high school game anyday before I would go watch them.

I'd pay two times what you can pay for a Miners ticket to watch Shelby Valley play.

I agree, they should've brought an arena football team in. I've watched a couple games of theirs and it's kinda boring to me. I'd rather watch one of the good high school teams around here, more exciting and alot better atmosphere than a Miners game

That would have been awesome for Kentucky to have an Arena Football Team.

Now that would really turn some heads.
#28
I for one would absolutely love to see an arena football team in the mountains! can you imagine what that could do for an EKY economy?
#29
The CBA never should have came to Pikeville. It was a nice try but didn't work out. I voiced my opinion about Arena Football and the excitement it would bring but it ended up being shot down. Now we have to unfortunately watch this team or league get shut down eventually due to the struggling economy. Hopefully this doesn't happen, but wouldn't be surprised if it did.
