Despite playing host to this year's 10th Region All "A" Classic, the Bishop Brossart girls basketball team received an early exit from the annual small-school tournament, dropping a 49-35 first round game to Paris on Thursday.

The home-court advantage wasn't nearly enough against a tough Paris team that is defending its championship from a year ago.

"When I saw the draw come out and saw who we were up against I knew it wasn't going to be easy," Brossart head coach Camey Eberhard said. "It's always tough when you meet one of the top teams right off the bat."

While the Greyhounds' offense had a solid night, it was their defense that put the clamps on Brossart in the first half. Paris held Brossart without a field goal for the game's first 12 minutes and limited the Mustangs to just 10 points in the first half as it took a 20-10 lead.

According to head coach Terence Brooks, aggressive early defense was an important part for Paris.

"Tonight some kids who didn't have the experience of competing in this type of event really stepped it up for us," Brooks said. "We were able to get out early and play hard on defense, which helped us relax all around." ...........
