The Powell Pirates come in halfway through the season with a 1-11 record, the worst in school history. Some people say it is their new coach Brian Hall who has been fired four times in the past five years. What do you think:booo:

Wow Brian hall bounces around everywhere. Its a shame lively isn't coaching any more.

Sounds like it.

I have seen powell play twice they looked alot better when they played Somerset but they have a long way to go team speed is hurting them but they will get better remember there is next year make this as a rebulding year and let the coach build there team,

Actually this is not the worst record Powell County has had. Powell basketball didn't win a game when Monroe Jones was head coach.

They were headed for trouble when they kept 12 or 13 seniors a couple of years ago.

That would certainly stunt your underclass experience at the Varsity level

You are probably right Palmer. And that's something that can't be blamed on Coach Hall.

Ugh, tell me about it.
I dont think it is coach Halls fault. Given he has been around the block but you cant coach somethings and with a 1-11 record looks to me that the talent might not be there. But i havent seen them play since 2007.

i dont think that jackson city fired him and idk what happend at betsy lane coach hall might not be a coach K but the man knows a little bit of basketball 1-11 might not be all his fault... and i know that he was the 2004 14th region coach of the year

I know all this failure isn't just b/c of Coach Hall, but he could prevent most of it.
-Pretty much ran off the 2 star players, who each transfered to rival schools.
-Continues to make bad decisions.
-Seems to have a problem with making decisions himself(i have seen him on the bench and he has to turn to the assistants with every little issue).
The talent would be there if he just wouldn't run it all off!

If you cant stand the heat, get out of the street. I dont think just becasue your not used to a new coach and his techniques you should just get mad and quit. All the blame cant be brought forth upon the coach. Im sure the players had some involvment in them getting "ran off" and transfering schools.

Brian Hall was let go from Breathitt County, hired at Jackson City and left to come closer to home in Floyd County to Betsy Layne. That didn't work out. He's now at Powell County. That's his head coaching history.
WOW, are Powell fans asking for the return of Monroe Jones?

Im not gonna come straight out and say Brian Hall is a horrible coach, b/c i dont kno tht, from what i have seen of Powell he has mad eno improvement with the team. Yes he does have a shortage on talent, and the 2 best players did quit, which i believe he and Monroe Jones were at fault. Also, he makes very questionable decisions throughout every game. I just don't know if the guy should have a job next year????

As someone who is very close to the program and has been around it for many years, let me share my thoughts on some of this. Having talked to Coach Hall personally about some of these issues, I have to say first of all this guy knows basketball and has two great assistants who know their stuff. Yes two of the most talented players left the team early in the year, but they also had the worst attitudes of any player I have seen play at Powell Co. and I were a coach I would choose good attitudes over talent any day. Now this has left a very young team who did not get much time off of the bench last year. The seniors they have are inexperienced and are not your average leaders that they should be. Put quiet simply, Coach Hall has a very young team that lacks in many fundamental areas. They don't handle the ball well, they are slow, they can't play defense properly, they don't make good decisions, and shooting isn't great either. These things should be taught before now, however with this being a rebuilding year these are things they should focus on to get ready for the future.

FROM WHAT YOU ARE SAYING THEY ARE HORRIBLE CAN YOU NOT FIND ANY BRIGHT SPOTS OF THIS TEAM. YOU KNOW THEY ARE TALENTED JUST LOOK IN THE RIGHT PLACES AND USE THEM AS STRENGTHS INSTEAD AS EXCUSES. I CANT BELEIVE YOU ARE LUMPING THE ENTIRE TEAM INTO THIS DESCRIPTION. YOUNG TEAM OR NOT YOU HAVE TO WORK WITH WHAT YOU HAVE INSTEAD OF TRYING TO MOLD THEM INTO WHAT THEY ARE NOT. THEY HAVE GREAT POSSIBILITIES MAYBE THAT IS WHAT WE SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON. MAYBE WE NEED TO BE SMALL AND FAST INSTEAD OF BIG AND SLOW, OR MAYBE WE SHOULD ADJUST THE TEAM TO THE TALENT WE HAVE. JUST SOME EXAMPLES OF HOW WE CAN IMPROVE WHAT WE HAVE TO WORK WITH.:howdy:

I didn't mean to sound so negative about this group. There are bright spots on this team and I really believe that even in the next year or two those will show. I was just saying that at this time there are things lacking in many of the players that shouldn't be at this point in their careers. This is no certain persons fault but are things that can be corrected and I am sure they will.

Brian Hall coached Betsy Layne last year. They're not exactly a "rinky-dink" basketball school.

The people in Powell co need to get over it. So what if it's the worst record, to blame it on the coach totally is hog wash. He was not fired from what I understand, if it bothers you that much go talk to the coach or better yet talk to the administration. This horse has been beat to death.

I wonder how many pages they had to go threw to dig this thread out. Last year they was 15-15, not exactly world beaters. How many rinky dink schools beat them last season?
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

It is definatly a rough year, but the future is bright. Hall came and cleaned up the cancer from this program and now he is getting them back on track. The program will not be run by prima-dona's no more or the parents. I know Lively had expressed the same concern over the last couple of years and knew soon something would have to change. It shows when the going gets tough the weak QUIT/

Sounds like it could be a combination of several things posted. I hope things get better for Powell Co., got some good friends over there and wish everyone nothing but the best of luck!!
