Russell Getting Turf?
#31
I hear that Greenup also has plans for turf. Even mention of a grant from water conservation. Would be nice and I am sure Deviloligist has some pretty good sources, but since we just got Bermuda I just can't see it happening soon. I am sure the JFL field would love to have some more Bermuda though.:yum:

JFL Bermuda would be nice too.... But the money for the turf on the field is a GO , and when it is all done the monies will be presented to the school to build it...
Guys I know we have talked about this before but if everyone would quit talking about it and DO,, it would get done alot faster........
And the source I got it from is in charge of collecting.

What a waste of money for turf lol. Its probably not even the same stuff Louisville uses, and everything else is terrible. Stick with Bermuda its 10 times better. If the SEC can play on it, I think Russell should be ok.

I just meant if they do get turf maybe transporting the Bermuda to the JFL field. Not buying more of it.

TURF would allow for ALL of the Freshman, JV and High school games plus the 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade games to be played there as well. TURF allows for more use and could be a money maker in the long run.

The JFL field could be used for the flag program and all the Pee-Wee teams. Since they dont have lights you get less time 0n the field.

I agree with you DEVILOLOGIST it will make everything look a whole lot better.

get the new field first then lest work on the field house restrooms and stuff later,

the money the get brought in for the field can only be used on the field.

and the ones that want to bash on our school and say that you are for the school dosen't seem like it to me on the post that i have read on here. But everyone is entitled to there own append.

Hopefully the JFL field gets lights and the 6th, 7th and 8th graders are back in the JFL where they belong.

Did you go to Russell? Do you pay taxes for Russell Schools?
#39
Whats school taxes got to do with it???????
This project is without school money, and if he wants to donate to the project, then what does it matter.

I get kinda sensetive when people who don't live here, and didn't go here, start taking ownership of the school by saying "Our School."

He could give money to the tooth fairy for all I care.

Well I like grass. Maybe cause I'm a bit old school, but I just like a grass field plain and simple. But to put my own selfish wants away I have to agree with Devilogist on this one. It would save the school system lots of money. No not right off the bat, but maybe 3 yrs down the line. It would eventually pay for itself. I am sure the band would even appreciate it.:beg:

I already knew the answer. It was a "Rhetorical Question".

The Band? Seriously man!

I remember all the years the band members would scuff up a divot in the field marking their spot where to line up. Couldnt see the actual damage till you got up near the press box. Just saying that if you are a Russell fan.... A true Russell fan you should support the school, the Golf team, the Academic team, the Orchestra, and yes the band. Would love to see everything at Russell excell including the band. Wink

Yeah but what Russell really needs to invest money in is a nice field house so they players will have some incentive to lift. I mean the one now is a joke. If they want to keep competing for state championship they need to get a good field house so they can get strong enough to compete.

(faint whisper) "If you build it....they will come.":p

YEA WE KNOW ABOUT THE FIELD HOUSE, BELIEVE ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But if you put in the turf first it will allow you the space to build a new field house. If you build the new field house without the NEW turf field you are restricting the lay-out of the build process...................
YES I KNOW that the field house needs done and it SUX now,,,, still SUX from 1983 when I played................No toilets..............no toilets........ YES I KNOW.

OH and RedDevil86 I dont care if you spend 2 million on a brand new work-out facility........it does not cure laziness....I would say that the tip of the hat would be when we outgrow the weight room......right now if 6 people show up it still looks empty............ It would be nice to have a facility for everyone to use at the school. INDOOR track would be nice too !!!!!!!!!!!!!

We all want that too! The band has pretty much sucked since Eddie Prichard left in the 1980's. I wish it was bigger and better!

Just keep them off the football field unless there's a competition. Or we get new Turf, after a field house.

This same thing is going on at Greenup right now.

The plan is to build an indoor practice facility for the softball and baseball teams. This facility will be located beside the softball field. The one stipulation the school board had before they would agreed to this project was it could be used for a locker room for the vistiting football team. This would allow for a future renovated to the field house.

That sounds like a good plan. Any word on when?

The contractor bids are in for the indoor softball/baseball training facility. The next step is for the school board to award the bid. The plan is to start construction after the 1st of January, and the contractors have said that the building could be completed in a month. The goal is for the baseball/softball teams to be using it for conditioning and spring practice in February.

To make an athletic project a reality at an Independent School you have to bring a plan that includes "some" financing to the table at a school board mtg. Thats how this project started. This was a joint effort between the parents, boosters, coaches and businesses to make a financial commitment that will not cost any individual out of pocket money. It just takes a volunteer effort from a group of people. This was a small group compared to the football group. After that, the school board really stepped up to make this project happen.

At this point anyone that has a child that plays football in the Russell system that is a junior or younger would have a vested interest in this project, or any alumni that would want to see the program get even better than it already is.

Sounds great.

I know the Russell softball coach has been pushing this facility for awhile now. Maybe everybody pushing at once helped the ball roll faster. I do feel bad sometimes when large football teams come in and have to go in the corner of the stadium because there is no place for them to go. Not real bad but just a lil.:p
#58
The Russell softball team definetly deserves a nice facility, don't know about the baseball team, maybe they should focus on getting a decent coach in there.

How many high school football indoor practice facilities are there in the state. The only one I know of is Knox Central. Anybody know of any more?

Merger County does. My bad, I ment Mercer Co. I'am still having that problem from an old football game with my left index finger hitting the "g" instead of the "c", or maybe I just couldn't resist...............
