how is PC ahead of Phelps?
Phelps beat them..
Phelps beat them..
Told you all that the loss to Letcher would put them at around 13th and I was correct. By the way yes I did predict 13th exactly lol. I will agree PC should be around 13th as of now in the season and Phelps right at 10th or 11th. IMO Johnson is to low, because Phelps nor PC right now IMO could beat the Lady Eagles.

Phelps was voted higher and lower, depending on which staff member's vote that you see. This is just the average of all votes. I think that it may be best to look at all rankings as how we are expecting these teams' seasons to play out as a whole. Pike County Central may have a better season with more impressive wins if they can start to pull it together. Phelps went from not being able to pop into the top 20 to 13th place automatically so that is huge.
I'm probably the only staff member that votes in the girls basketball rankings that really gets into this particular section and discusses things with you all but I can tell you that my rankings are a little different than this reflects. It's not perfect of course but perhaps a more accurate depection?
Mine actually played out more like this:
1. Clay Co.
2. Breathitt Co.
3. Rowan Co.
4. Ashland Blazer
5. Johnson Central
6. South Laurel
7. Letcher Co. Central
8. Phelps

12. Knott Co. Central
13. Raceland
14. Middlesboro
15. Harlan Co.
16. Sheldon Clark
17. East Carter
18. Russell
19. Shelby Valley
20. June Buchanan

After last week IMO that probley depects it alot better Tribe. I like these rankings. Still not convinced yet though that as of now PC is 9th they just arent meshing right now. By the end it will be a three way region however, between Johnson, Pike Central and Phelps should be interesting Paintsville will shake things up to i think. Funny thing is the top 4 of the region will finish 1st and 2nd in the 59th and 1st and 2nd in the 57th. A two district region is what it is baby. IM READY FOR MARCH

IMO PC will start to win big games, they are just now starting to come together and work as a team with the new coach, I think when it is all said and done Pike Central will be in the top 5.
12-16-2008, 10:25 AM
i can agree with that for now...i look for the hornets to keep climbing the ranks as the season goes on and i predict they will be ahead of PCC.

only time will tell liveblue....I think both pcc and phelps are gonna be hard teams to beat.

I know that Shelby Valley lost to Sheldon Clark, but you better not count out Shelby Valley. IMO, they'll be right there in the mix of things come tournament time. I figure Coach Rowe will like being over-looked and being an underdog.

Ashland Kittens and Rowan Co. are both solid.

Rodney is a great coach, however im not sold on the Lady Cats. They have Cantrell and Perkins in their arsenal and both a great players. However, they are small and if anyone has any type of inside game it kills them. As seen last season against Pike Central. They hung tough but once Pike Central began utilizing Lowe and SLone on the inside it turned into a one sided game. Good Luck to the Lady Cats. Either way though Valley will be taking a trip to Rupp lol. They are the 3rd best team in the 59th untill proven.

Perhaps you didn't know that Elliott beat Scott Co. and East Carter on back to back nights last week???

An unranked team beating another unranked team and beating a ranked team by 4 still doesn't assure them a spot.
Pike Central could keep falling as the season progresses. Everyone was expecting so much out of them that they are yet to prove in my opinion and mine is more of an overall of how they will do in the season while still basing it on previous games.
Shelby Valley only beat East Ridge by 7 tonight and that was on a big run in the final minutes. That was ER's first loss of the season and NO ONE expected them to be that close. The final story doesn't even tell the story of the game. By the way they hung in there tonight, they may have a lot more potential than anyone was giving them credit for previously.
I'm expecting A LOT out of Phelps, Pike Central, Paintsville, Sheldon Clark, Shelby Valley, and some of the better local teams. I'd love to see a top 20 with the 15th region being extremely dominate.
All of these can and will change quite a bit from week to week, you never know what to expect.

MAY that is the key word untill we find out tomorrow we all know they have NO inside game which hurts them against the "top 3" in the region thus far (Phelps, Pike Central and Johnson). The thing Valley has going for them is where they are so quick and defensivly they can force many turnovers against those same teams if their guards dont show up. The remind me of the early 2000s Villanova team. They play mainly a 4 guard set and have good peremiter shooters which does carry you so far. If they get an inside game then they could be lethal it should be interesting. Good Luck to the Lady Cats.

I dont understand how JC is number 8? I think they are better than that.

sheldon clark is doing great this year..
but i think that when they come 2 phelps && we get a fair called game, that it'll be close but in the end phelps will come out on top.

5'9 and megan tackett who is 5'11

I understand that but they need Swindall in the worst way possible, Coleman and Tackett are alright players but my point is having a presence in side of a Swindall or AD Slone really changes what your team can do. As it was, since I saw where you stated Swindall was ruled eligible, they now have much more depth on the bench even though it may only be one player it now gives you an out if Tackett or Coleman get into foul trouble, as I said before up untill now they have be much the same as the early Villanova mens team going with mainly a 4 guard set. Now they have more of a high low game with Swindall in the line up.

With Swindall they still didn't stop the Lady Hornets and the Lady Hornets didn't have a starter, this region is WIDE OPEN and only get more exciting each game, I'm SOOOO ready for March!

Got to think though its been a while since Swindall played in an actual game just as Ratliff and people said it was clear visible Kayla wasnt her self against PC. Still hit some clutch shots but needed some time to adjust. Give Valley some time with Swindall and they will open eyes as I said before that is all they were lacking in their puzzle to be up there with Pike Central, Phelps, Johnson and Paintsville. As you are I am ready for March to.
