Which rushing record are you talking about? Single season or career?
Single season is
3,361 Frank Jones (Bath County) 1969
Career is
8,224 Derek Homer (Fort Knox) 1993-96

No he did not..but he also played his first 4 games with a significant injury. He also shared carries with numerous other backs, played superior competition, and typically never saw more than a series of playing time in the second half.
He also had the following stat line against the same Central defense that shut Fugate down aside from two carries:
12 carries, 185 yards, 3 TD

Good lord. He played against weaker competition than Finch. Stats are not the whole story.

apples and oranges trying to compare Fugate and Finch. Two different classes, two different schemes. I hav no problem with Finch getting it this year seeing as he is a senior and played one of the toughest schedules in the State. If Fugate repeats what he did this year then I am sure that he will get it next year. I would like to see Fugate in a 2 back I system though. He would be down right nasty dotting the eye 7 yards from the line of scrimmage. Could you imagine him as the fullback in that Central option scheme. They read the lineman and fake it to the fullback on nearly every run play. I would imagine with a back like Fugate they would be handing it to him a lot more. Wishful thinking I suppose. But he is as good as advertised.

Not downgrading the kid at all but you have to think that if he was running behind a 6A line then he would be playing against 6A defenses which in turn would probably kill his stats.

Yay Central High! Don't want to say (okay I do!) "Told ya so!!!!"
Great season Breathitt and you guys have nothing to hang your heads about. The team is full of good kids and they are well coached.
2 Things
1. Central is not "JUST" fast. It takes more to win than just an idea of genetically dispersed ability that is dormant and uncultivated. It takes sacrifice and discipline. Talent and speed alone have left many teams at home watching highlights of state championship games or watching other teams celebrate across the field. Credit must be given to the student-athletes who sacrificed and dedicated themselves for a team goal. Some schools are mentioned (County Schools/Mountain Schools) and descriptions that accompany are hard-nosed, tough, effort, and desire. Central is mentioned and description that accompany are fast, talented, gifted, and natural ability as if the kids from Central sit around all year and roll out of bed and win state championships. The kids at Central work every bit as hard as those kids at the Catholic Schools and at schools in the County and in the Mountains. I think it is a discredit and race-tinged to continue to promote the idea that other teams work hard and Central just has natural gifts.
2. Channing Fugate is a heck of an athlete. Even better in person than I saw on film. However, I believe perceptions of him are skewed because of the competition he plays and the ability that surrounds him. I believe he deserves some good looks from some good college programs. Is he the best back in the state? No. Is he in the top tier of football players in the state? Yes. It is tough sometimes to compare talent across such a large continuum. What you can compare is him to his competition and "hands down" he is the best player in his region. Across the board he is in the 75 percentile of players in the state. I think you put some players from Jefferson County in the Mountains and they would have similar numbers to his this year. I think you put Fugate in Jefferson County, he would be one of the better backs in the county, but not the best. He is good but sometimes limited vision and personal connectedness skews perspective. Let's not forget that Chance Hughes had 169 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns in the "Battle of 28's" as compered to Fugates 133 yards. Granted Fugate had tough sledding against the Central "D" but Deuce Finch played against the same "D" and had over 180 yards (FYI Central QB Chris King had 209 yards rushing against St. X). The point is Fugate is a good, athletic football player but let's not put undo expectations and weight on his shoulders as more than what he is.
See you next year! Is there already a three-peat buzz? Centralllll...Central High!

Right now he need 3445 yards to break the career rushing yards records, if he get that he will also have the season record. He need 45 tds to tie the records. Good luck next year, hope to see someone from the mountains break the records.

Seriously. Take off your bobcat goggles and look at the competition that Finch has faced. There are very few 3A schools that can offer that level of consistent competition.
Plus I don't see how playing behind a 6A line would improve his stats unless of course said 6A school was playing 1A schools. Face it Breathitt does not play the same level as Trinity and St. X.

I am a JC fan and looking through black and gold glasses and saw him play. Come on here guys, the kid has had a great year and is a great propect. The kid is good and needs to get the credit. Do not try and justify if he would be good in your area, THE KID CAN PLAY ANYWHERE AND BE GREAT IN KY PERIOD. Would you be a Belfry fan? Not many running backs get a victory at the CAM. Fugate did!

I am first and foremost a football fan. Fugate did not get a win at the Cam, Breathitt County did. Doug Howard of Belfry was a better back, but he was not a D1, especially SEC material. I have not once said Fugate was not a good running back. Shoot, I would be tickled to death seeing him play for Belfry. I also love to see these young athletes make the big time. I am simply calling it from my viewpoint. I am not a scout or anything of the nature. But I have seen a few great football players and Fugate is one of them. But as it stands right now, from what I have seen. He is NOT a D1 dominate back. First and foremost: Speed, then field vision, and then size. That is how D1 backs are scouted IMO. As I said, He has another year, who knows? You all are talking as though I am downing him. I am not. I don't believe Belfry has any D1 caliber players either. David Jones was faster and had better field vision than Fugate and was not recruited as a RB. His speed got him recruited as a DB.
