Who should be on the short list to watch for in 2009?
My Top 5
1. Tim Patterson- LB Lou. Central: Going to be the most sought after player in the State. Leading tackler the past two years for on of the State's best defenses. Helped team to 3A Title.
2. Austin Collinsworth- WR/DB Highands: Has the pedigree and has the ability to take over a game anytime he's on field. State's best WR, best DB, and best Kick Returner next year. Helped team to 5A Title.
3. Miles Simpson- RB/DB Simon Kenton: Unbelievable season rushing for well over 2000 yards and leading team to 6A State Finals and continued success against excellent competition.
4. Channing Fugate- RB/LB Breathitt County: 3,000 yard rusher and dominating force on offense, playmaker on defense. Led team to State Runner-Up in 3A.
5. Antonio Andrews- QB/DB Ft. Campbell: Unbelievable State Finals performance with 370+ Total Yards and 4 TD's coming from passing, rushing, and receiving. Nearly single handidly led team to 2A State Title.

I have to Agree with this list but i would slide Andrews up in front of Fugate because very rarely will anyone from the mountains get looks for it

Take Simpson off the list, because as FBALL pointed out to me, he is only a sophomore right now.

According to the roster that SK submitted for the State Finals as well as Rivals database he is a Junior.

Maybe things will change and Channing Fugate will win it next year!!! I am hoping he can pull it off!!

Take Fugate off of that list this year. Phillips of Finch isn't on that list. These are the best tow backs in the state this year. If you put Fugate on there and not the other two. something is wrong there. Put these to boys on a team around here, they might end up with 4000+ yards this year.

Well they have had him listed as a sophmore all season long.

Now I'm confused.

Antonio Andrews hands down, best player in the state.
I'm tired of hearing about money, money, money, money, money. I just want to play the game, drink Pepsi, wear Reebok -Shaquille O'Neal

I didn't see that 2009 on top there. If Breathitt want Fugate to have a shot at Mr. Football, they need to play better teams then what they do.

I went all year thinking he was a junior until FBALL pointed out the riherds roster.
Sticking with jr. from here on out.

I saw him play the last two years. The first time was 2007 and he returned a kickoff for a TD. I was sure that the SK people standing with me told me he was a freshman.
I'll go with junior as well though. I guess. If he is a senior next season then he is one of the favorites to win it. The kid has some jets.

This is the attitude that keeps mountain boys from winning it but you people are mostly mountain people and can't pull for one one your own.You should all change your name to Dave Cantrel because he never gives mountain terams/players any respect.Shame on all you mountain people.

If Channing can have another year like he did this year and break the single season rushing record, he will win hands down.

Channing Fugate plays east of Lexington. Doesn't this award usually go to someone from the golden triangle? Lol.

The thing about this so called golden triangle.
Since 2004, 17of the 22 state titles have been from Louisville, Lexington or Cov/Newport/Erlanger area.
Russell won one
Belfry won one
Bell won one
Fort Campell won two.
Thats it, so its pretty simple to see the best football is played in Central KY.
Mr. Football is an AP award. The votes are givin by the Newspapers. It has nothing to do with where youre from, Of course a mainstram player in Louisville has the benifit of a large media feed, but so do players from Hazard, Lex, Ashland, Covington, Bowling Green....the funny thing is there papers still voted for Duece Finch this year, because the vote was unanimous.
Mr Football Canidates in order on talent alone next year.
