Now I will comment on Belfry.
This is not the biggest Belfry team on the line by any means. But what they lack in size the make up for on being physical and quick off the ball. The defense is pretty good but what makes Belfry so tough is that battering ram offense. Pounding Lee and Varney off tackle. Springing Dotson up the middle. It is relentless.
The only way to beat them that I see is to try and establish the run and some short passes to eat up the clock and shorten the game. Keep Lee and company from controling the game. The only team in 3A that has a shot to do that is Central.
I also read the comment about this may be Haywoods best team at Belfry. Although they are very good I don't think they are. 2005, 2004, 2003, and 1986 were probably better.

It is so very easy to blame especially at tournament time. Nobody wants to lose and its always easier to blame rather than admit you were out coached and out played. Pirates wanted this game real bad and it showed in their play. I would like to tell all the pirate team we are so proud of them and hope to be going to papa johns to watch them again this year. Great job coach Hawood and the rest of the staff. Hope everyone comes out friday nght to support our pirates.

Good choice of teams but I think this edition of Belfry is much more talented and deeper than the overachieving 2005. Offensively they are similar, but this team is much stronger defensively and have quite a bit more experience and leadership. That 2005 team was one of the most overachieving Belfry teams of All-time and one of Haywood's best coaching jobs. They were a false start away from a State Final and that 2005 Russell game symbolized what that team was all about. Even though Russell was a better and more rounded team, they found a way to hang in there and left it on the field.
The 2003, 2004, and 1986 teams can be evaluated in a few weeks.

After all how long hasit been since anybody besides this team has seen its starters sitting out the game after the second or third quarter

Nobody needs to be cutting their hair this time of year. I know I don't have any to cut, but don't cut any payer's hair if they are playing good. Do not jinx us. BTW, if we make it back to state, I will let Thomas and whoever else wants to, cut my hair and shave what little I have at a pep rally.
