I meant next Friday

Total domination by Belfry. They were definitely the better team.
Absolutely embarrassing effort by Russell. Its one thing to lose to a better team, which Belfry was, its a whole other thing to just roll over. Guys coming back next year get your heads on straight and learn from this season.

I think next year's senior class should have some good leaders. Rice and Smith have started since they were sophomores. If Russell doesn't have an INCREDIBLE offseason in the weight room, though, I doubt we will be looking forward to any rematches with Belfry or Breathitt. Unless I am missing something, it appears Russell will be very small next year.

Pop the throat drops and be ready for next week. By the way the potato soup was awesome. The real reason why I didn't tailgate tonight because I am going to Pigeon Forge in about three hours. I will be ready next Saturday
By the way Corey charles had three picks. We got to find out the last Pirate to accomplish that feat
I know Belfry picked off Shelby Valley like 7 or 8 times one season.
Taking a wild shot in the dark I will say either Derick Pauley or Brad Hatfield.

I will respectfully disagree with you. You'd be shocked. RAM-A-DEVIL is right. Even if he can't spell Belfry.
That effort tonight is what most of us have been talking about all season. This Russell team was beaten before they ever got on the bus. None of us wanted to say it but many of us could see it coming. This. Hopefully the younger guys remember this season and its disappointments and prepare for next season.

How could they not get up for this game?

I'm going to be polite and not answer that one in the public forum. But anybody that has watched them play this season knows the answer.

I understand your restraint in the public forum, but I watched them play all season long and never could figure them out.

Its not the weight room that lost this game or any other for Russell this season.
Belfry was not bigger than Russell. They were not stronger. They were quicker and more disciplined. This game was won much more between the ears than it was on physical abilities.
I actually think Russell will be much better next season. They won't be as big but they won't be tiny either. I do expect them to be much more focussed and fundamentally sound.

It all comes down to LEADERSHIP which this team DID NOT have. It was said all year long that this is what was going to happen to them because of it and it showed. Hey FBALL I guess you got your computer working?

I'll say one thing: Drew Abrams is a fantastic player... I commented during the update thread how he was beign asked to carry Russell on both offense and defense. That ahd to be the hardest earned 70 yards I have seen!
A couple things that confused me about Russell tonight:
1. The Balance of Carries- I just mentioned Abrams carrying the team, but I was surprised that he did get as many carries as he did. Does Russell not have any other homerun hitting threat or just no confidence in anyone but Abrams? Usually Russell has 4-5 different backs carrying the ball over 5 times.
2. The predictability of Russell's passing game- 2nd and Long = Pass. At that, short pass. Belfry was all over the short stuff and as a result Russell was foced into 3rd and long all night. Which brings me to...
3. Russell's 3rd Down Play Calling- The Devils had no issue passing on 2nd and Long, but 3rd and Long they ran the ball nearly every time? I'm sorry but the odds are you won't break many 8+ yard carries on Belfry, so why continue to test your luck on 3rd and Long?
4. Russell's Disappearance of Speed- We have heard all year how fast this Russell team would be..even comparisons to Louisville Central early in the year. Yet Belfry got anything they wanted off tackle?

I appreciate the compliment, I don't know if I should make it three times in a row, but I'm glad you liked it.

No confidence period.
Predictability is based on decision making. Russell has made poor decisions in the passing game all year long. On the field decisions that make the play calling tougher.
It didn't disappear, it never showed up. This game was done after the first Belfry drive. Nobody took the pitch on the option twice on that opening drive. Total confusion showed from that point on.
I don't know of anyone that compared Russell's speed to Central's. If they did then they were nuts.

No Shocker to me, Congrats Belfry.

Next year should be more of a running back by committee for Russell as I don't see a clear cut favorite to replace Abrams.

Rice should move to halfback next year. Jones, White and Stapleton should see time back there as well.
I think the quarterback position is going to be interesting.

A few overzealous fans who claimed Central was overrated and when it was pointedout about Central's speed and how it was in another league compared to the other 3A teams they made special note of how fast Russell was.

Like I said. Nuts.
Russell despite what you saw tonight does have good speed. Not great.
A thought on this game. I personally thought Russell should have taken the ball when they won the toss. There best chance was to get off to a good start and try to take some of the energy out of Belfry. Belfry was fired up and the two big option plays on the first drive did nothing but pump them up more and deflate a defense that has struggled tackling all year.

You're probably right there. They aren't a team that comes from behind. After the Ashland game this year, I said that it was about as complete a domination as is possible. I was wrong. 500 yards to 100 yards and 42 to 0 is a bit more impressive. Thank goodness for the 70 or so yards Abrams managed to get because without those, this team may have been shutout in points and nearly shutout in yardage as well.

Well he was the only one who really got a chance to carry the ball. He should have had all the yards.
