Kentucky prep talk about 5A
#1
Who do you look for make a run in this years playoffs??? Who an why??

I am not sure how the brackets stack up but Owensboro or Christian County will come from the west this year. I don't see Bowling Green beating either of them. I think either of them would then have to beat John Hardin. Highlands will have a cake walk to the final game. OHS, CC, BG, or JH could beat any of the teams Highlands will play to get to the final.

Highlands won't take JC or any team for granted. That is not their makeup. They are a well disciplined team that executes like a machine. Neither JC nor any other team in the east will stay within 30 points of Highlands. Then when they get to Papa Johns, they will beat the team from the west by an equal amount.

I have to say that Highlands is a power house and chance's of JC beating them is slim to none. But they do have to come through Eagle stadium and nothing is going to be easy about that. I also think that JC could beat anyone else in 5A this year. IMO anyways.

Exhibit A why the AP Poll is a complete joke. First of all, who in their right mind is not ranking Highlands #1 right now? Secondly, if it was any other team besides Highlands, it would not be Johnson Central. Thirdly, the points analysis tells us exactly where the lone Johnson Central vote rated Highlands. You get 10 points for a first place vote, 9 for second, etc. Ergo, Highlands 21 FPV = 210 points. Which means the one who voted Johnson Central #1 voted Highlands fourth. FOURTH. That voter either writes for the Paintsville Herald or some other area paper. The AP Poll is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Honestly do you think anyone other than Highlands is better Than JC, by head and shoulders?

Stud, if you need something posted on a western Ky oriented message board by someone that is very likely NOT a Highlands fan to fire you up, you are in deep, deep trouble. Some of the Highlands supporters have watched JC play a couple of times already (its a long trip to P'ville) and rest assured Highlands has a lot of respect for JC. There is zero talk about any cakewalk over JC. Besides, we've both got some games to play to make that game happen anyway. If and when it happens, Highlands won't over look JC. Don't worry about that.

John Hardin DID absolutely annihilate Woodford County. And I bet the speed on that side of the state is something that not many teams in EKY see on a regular basis, or ever. Teams like Hopkinsville have probably gone through more athletes in the last decade that EKY teams have ever even seen outside of television. Imagine bigger, faster versions of Bryan Station.

Good news is, only one of those teams makes it to the state finals. Where generally, they are slaughtered by the NKY team, which has speed AND coaching.

Everyone keeps saying Owensboro and Christian County will beat Bowling Green this year. Bowling Greens only loss was 17- 0 against Trinity. Bowling Green has improved a great deal since the start of the season and has home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Bowling Greens only Home loss in the last four years was the Trinity game played in a rain storm. We are looking forward to playing Owensboro and CC if only to shut their fans up. Neither team has beaten Bowling Green in the last 10 years. It's been 6 years since a public school has beaten Bowling Green. Until someone beats us I'd say we should be the favorites no matter what other teams fans say on the message boards. Bring em on.

Highlands will make it look almost easy im sure of it!

Bowling Green isn't in the same Class as Trinity and has never played against them in a State Game. Oh, and yes Bowling Green did loose to Highlands in the State Game in '07 in the rain.

Oh, and I must add that in '95 Bowling Green beat Highlands for a State Championship.

We are proud over here in Bowling Green just to be able to stand on a pedestal. We would love to play Johnson Central, Whitley County and Ashland but they never, I repeat never seem to make it to the finals.

That's because the cake is on that side of the state! Come on man you know that you could not beat highlands or Cov Cath to get to state. The deal is you guys don't have to. Who knows you guys take care of your business and we will try to take care of ours, you never no. Maybe if you blow on that cake hard enough over their this year you might get your wish . JC 35 Bowling Green 7

LOL. It doesn't take much to get you Eastern Kentucky fans riled up does it. By the way Bowling Green 42 Johnson Central 3. Heck JC may get beat tonight by an Ashland team our JV might be able to beat.
#14
Would love to see the 5A title come back to the mountains! Good luck Johnson Central!!

You still think that your Jv can beat us?

Against Ashland. I do. But to be honest if we don't play better than we did last night I think our JV could beat our varsity.

I can't agree more! They talk big every year in the regular season, but where are they in the playoffs? Highlands will have a easy time in their half of the bracket. In the top of the bracket , I would still go with BG, Christian county, and Owensboro. I give the slight edge to BG, been there/done that! This three teams all would beat JC. However, nobody is going to stay within 2 touchdowns of Highlands this year.

You hit the nail on the head! Spead and coaching makes the difference. Just ask Madison Central after last weeks game with Highlands. Madison was huge compared to Highlands, but their off/def lines were slow. They had some speedy backs and receivers, but poor coaching did not use them like they should have. Madisons offense was so simple and inaffective. There was no pass attempt greater than 7-8 yards. They have speep but will not spreed out the defense to take advantage of it. Highlands offense uses the run and pass and spreeds the defense. Would love to see what Madison Central would do with Highlands coaching staff.

I agree with you except, Highlands is a public school and has beat BG in the past 6 years.

Will you guys please stop acting like Bowling Green is all that. No disrespect to their program or anything but when they actually have a non-cakewalk of a playoffs and heck I'll go there - regular season with the exception of Trinity, let me know. That is the moment that I will allow the bragging to begin. Until then EKY + NKY = Greatest.

I am looking forward to the JC vs. Highlands game, considering that if JC makes it there, which they should.
#21
Like I said before if I wanted cake i would go western Ky. BG could not stay within 3 Td of JC.
#22
I think maybe you guys think that we have not played anyone this year and its just a fluke that JC is one of the top rushing teams in the nation according to stats and max preps, and the starters have not played a whole game most of the year.
#23
West is very weak. All you need to do is look at the last couple of state finals. Owensboro maybe the only team on the Western side that can come close to competing with HHS. I would personally love to see a Whitley vs. JC playoff game b/c I think it would be a very good match-up. But unfortunately for both of them they will run into the Bluebirds.

Maybe they will all be ruled ineligible for the playoffs??? That still makes me mad to think about.
#24
JC is so one dimensional that when they play a team with a good defense they will be in trouble. You can't win a state championship by just running the ball all the time. Never happens. Never.

It wouldn't have mattered. Highlands would have adjusted their game plan without him and would have beaten Bell anyway, just the way they did in the state game when they beat Boyle which was a better team than Bell that year.
#27
A lot of people are talking about Eastern KY never having enough speed to hang with highlands what about Rockcastle did they ever have enough speed for you guys a few years ago?
#28
just to add a little something the coaching is not even close central Ky school have a ton of better coaching too include our high spoken MATNEY! He gets out coached every big game he's ever coached in. He does not know how to spread the offense. Thats why he hasn't got or will never have a state championship ring and i played for this guy for 4 years.
#29
Highlands will be unchallenged in 5a.
#30
You may be right F.N.L about highlands but do u honestly think that Bowling Green is this unstopable force?????? cause im not bying it at all!
