I don't know about you guys, but I better see a more motivated team. I don't care if they are playing EC or the Dallas Cowboys. After Friday's embarassment and after what everyone has said about these boys. I hope they come out for blood on D and don't give up a single yard. When I see the box score Saturday, next to total yards for EC, first thing I want to see is a (-).
Also, I'd inform the coaches that we need to play ourselves into shape, and IDC if its 100-0 at halftime, you play until late 4th. They got LC next week and that will be a loss if they don't get it together. LC is going to run the same D Ashland did I can promise you that. So is SK, Mason, and Raceland.
These games are going to require 4 quarters of play, and you can't afford to spend 1/4 of the season on the sidelines. Thats about what it equals out to. Lewis, EC, WC, Greenup. If the coaches continue to pull the first team when they are up 30 pts, thats 2 full games spent on the sideline that they could use to be bettering their fundamentals. Maybe pull the backs and QB, but the line plays. Dillon and Miller especially, they got to anchor that line and lead by example, that's tough to do when they are so out of breathe they can barely move. Russell's conditioning isn't spectacular, but no matter what conditioning you do, to get in good football shape, you have to play football.
Also will someone on the Dline please fire off the ball and not stand straight up. I know they tell you to control the line, but there are times you can get some penetration and destroy a play. You all are the players and the ones who are the targets of Raceland and Ashland fans jokes. Sometimes you need to do what feels right in the heat of the game. I hope you all have heard/seen some of what has been said. Personally if that was me, I would treat every player on the other team like they killed my dog and stole my Christmas presents.

Beating up on the smallest kid on the block doesn't prove anything.
Russell needs to win this game and will win this game.
Putting up 70 points won't mean that Russell has improved.
I feel sorry for East Carter but we won't know if this team has improved until we play Lawrence Co.

At Russell if you do that you wind up on the bench. That's the only thing I don't understand about this defense. That's why good QB's that pass have a field day against Russell.

The only reason I'm saying play them longer is they need to be in there getting used to playing 4 quarters. Even with our lapses we were still in this game in the 4th quarter. Then you started seeing fatigue hit hard from where we only played 1 full game all season. That is what I think brought out the quitting attitude we saw from some of the players, they were just wore out and completely exhausted. Then it got ugly.

This is not true.
I may be a perfect example of that. If your making plays, they will get on you, but sometimes you have to take a chance. Your the one in the game, you are the one who feels how the game is going and if you can beat your man or not and get in the backfield.
I never got benched.
I'm not saying ignore what the coaches say, but occasionally someone has to step up and make something happen, make a little momentum changing play.

I agree with Beetle about the D-line play. Yeah they are taught to control the line. But not penetrating when unblocke and the play goes away from you?
Example - Friday night Ashland ran the counter trey at least 10 times. The back side gaurd and tackle both pulled. Nobody closed down or penetrated from that back side. The side the play was run to was simply outnumbered with blockers. The tackle has to close down on that and try to disrupt that play in the backfield. Also penetration from the back side would habe taken away the cutback lanes. If the tackle crashes and the end stays home you still have your containment and maybe you get them for a loss.
Regardless of who you want to blame. Be it coaches or players. This defense has to be more agressive.

I am not sure that the starters can handle 4 quaters of play again? Shouldn't the team be in shape prior to game 1??

I don't think Russell is in bad shape they are just not in full game shape yet.
Conditioning aside, Will East Carter keep nine or ten in the box? Will Russell play it conservative and continue running the ball no matter what?
I think East will load up and try to play man coverage. I also think Russell will throw just enough this week to keep them honest. That is if East can stop the run. Ashland has terrific team speed. Enough team speed to disrupt Russell's blocking last week. Speed I don't think the Raiders can match.
We also have seen the Power I from Russell yet this year. This is another formation that I think may suit them as the year goes on.

No offense meant to LC but it doesn't matter whay D they play against Russell even if they could play 22 players on D they won't come close to stopping Russell.
And leaving the starters and beating a team 100-0 is not coach McGlones style, and he has to much class for that. But i see your point about playing the players longer though.
As far as the East game goes it will be a running clock by the third quarter.

If yesterday's practice was any indication, doesn't appear any changes will be made to the gameplan or style of play calling.
As far as running the score up, you can take the backs and QB out earlier, but the line needs to play until late 4th no matter the score. They have to get in some shape or this team could finish 5-5. The players need to get it through their head they do not want to finish 5-5 or 6-4 and with the second worse record in the last 20 years. Of course if they don't care that's how they will be remembered, then I guess it doesn't really matter then.

Line needs to play the entire game I agree. but I also would like to see the new boy do some work too. I heard that he (Jamal) threw up 285 like 15-20 times and said "How many times do you want me to do this?" I heard that he was also throwing up 385 too.. Dont know how many times but heard that yesterday,,,, it came from one of Russells starters..... This kid is only a junior and could help out alot....

After all these years it shouldnt surprise me that Russell isnt throwing the ball more! But this team isnt a power team! They cant line up and play smashmouth football with there size. but they are one of the most skilled Russell teams to come along! Anybody in there backfield can break it at anytime, but running off tackle is not there specialty. By this I am saying they can run and pass very well! They usally have pretty good hands. They had been throwing the ball all along, but last friday they seemed to forget about it! I guess it was an emotional game and they just got down, and couldnt get it turned around on the road! Here is hoping that the ship is righted, because this team can be special if they get there act together! I didnt see many Russell players get fired up at Ashland except at the half, then the kick off fumble seemed to take that fire away! Good Luck the rest of the season Reddevils!

Difficult coming to a new school, difficult coming to a program with alot of success, dificult in fitting into the community, by not being rasied here and playing at the younger level.. This kid could really help out the team.. But of course he will have to perform and do his job.. Being there to learn the system is a good way to begin.......

Can I get an Amen! I have to agree with Beetle on this one. These boys have to come together and play as a team! What happen to the days when you played all 4 quarters? That is something you don't see a lot of anymore.

Russell should win this one going away. It would be nice to see a crisp performance with lots of effort and spirit, though, even if the game does get out of hand. From reading the message boards, it sort of feels like Russell should devote the remainder of this season to proving that rumors of their demise are being greatly exaggerated!
Again, I agree with Beetle that the starters need to stay in. The regular season is nearly at the halfway point and these guys who play both ways need to start getting into shape so that it won't be a problem in the playoffs when they have to play full games.

I'd say with the teams coming up after the LC the starters will be playing the whole game.
One thing I think has hurt Russell is their schedule,Out of the first 5 games only 1 team has a winning record and another at .500. And at the end of it they have 3 pretty good teams. It's not very balanced at all.I think everybody will agree they play 5 teams they have no business playing. I know they cannot help it but that is the way it is setup. I have heard Ivan:rockon: himself say he is not a fan of the new alignments and and the way you have to play teams .It would help in the larger picture to be allowed to play a few more Ohio teams.I know they play Ironton next year they could play West Portsmouth,Wheelersburg or Portsmouth.Maybe not all of them the same year but maybe a couple of them a year.
I may be wrong on this, but with the great program Russell has they need to be allowed to play teams that will challenge them.
If I offended any one it was not my intentions.

1. We can not play outside our district- we dont have control over it.
2. I have spoken to Sam Sparks and other teams will not play us,,,, so when you say that we should play other teams,, I agree, we should but when they WONT,, well they just wont.
3. If we even jump up to play in 4A instead of 3A ,, we would be in the ditrict with- Greenup, Boyd, Lawrence County, East Carter and Rowan Co... So when you talk about district play,,, it will not help us to move.. We still play the same people. So it does not help us.......
4. We play in an area that we dominate most years,,, what do we do Ask to be moved to OHIO and play over there??
We just need to play and win every game no matter who we play,, We should dominate everyone around here in Northeast Kentucky.

Not this year if they don't start putting the ball in the air to keep D's honest. They've found a crack in the armor, and it will be exploited by every team for the rest of the season. I doubt this team see's anything less than 9 people in the box the rest of the year.

When I said Russell should play other teams I said they should be ALLOWED to play other teams. I know you have to play in your district. About the Ohio teams I said play a couple of teams from Ohio and I am sure the 4 team I mentioned would play.. I am not blaming Russell in any way it's the KHSAA system to blame. But I stated facts,, and most people dont realize some of the facts.. Like playing up in 4A.. that wont help us... Having the KHSAA change or realign districts every 2 years.. That makes it hard to keep a schedule too. So there are some things you have to look at all the time.. AND I KNOW that you did not blast the Red Devils... It is okay!!!
