You'll probably be disappointed then. In 3 games against 2 quality opponents Ashland has only allowed 31 points in regulation. The winner of this game will probably be the first team to crack 20.

TheBrahmaBull Wrote:Comparing scores does have its place if you take into account how hard a team had to work and matched up against the same opponent. Russell struggled through this game and Boyd was clearly not out-matched, but against Breahitt, they were simply never in the game. Just because I may have a different opinion and way of looking at things does not mean I am wrong, or right.. I hear about "class' and such in regards to Breathitt and have even heard "bush-league," but I say it is "bush-league" to quit and take your starters out when you are only down by 3-4 scores.
I never said comparing scores had no place. I said sometimes it can be misleading. Different attitudes and styles of play can skew things a bit.
Russell's offense did not struggle in that game against Boyd. In fact they scored at will and even more so at will than Breathitt's offense did against Boyd County.
Now it is true that they had a big let down on defense in that game. You could see the relax happen after the first score. Next thing you know Wilson broke one off for about 70 yards and a TD. If the defense plays with that same effort as that night, than you are right. Ashland will probably win. I certainly hope the players don't take this Ashland team lightly and I don't believe they will.
We have been discussing this situation of scoring late for a week now. Obviously we disagree. Don't take it personally. I still don't agree with running up a score but I don't hate anybody for it.

According to the Ironton faithful Ironton should have blew Ashland out but the fumbles they had kept them from it.
Just for the record I didn't say that they did.

This is true, they had 5 or 6 fumbles lost. Atleast 2 were around the 5 yd line. I think they were center/QB exchanges because Ironton had a new center. Not to mention all the dropped wide open passes Ironton had. From good sources (Ashland Fans) these were WIDE OPEN.

Ironton only lost 2 fumbles in the game. One was inside the 10 that prevented an Ironton score and the other was recovered by Ashland just outside the 10 setting up their only score. They did have a few QB/Center exchange fumbles, but none of those were recovered by Ashland. There was 1 wide open pass that should have been caught for an Ironton TD. It was one of the single best high school throws I have ever seen. 55 yard pass in the air that hit a receiver on the sideline right over his shoulder on his hands.
Ironton certainly had more chances to put points on the board if everything works out perfect for them, but Ashland had several opportunities that were blown as well. This "what if" situation can be said in almost any ball game to change the outcome of a ball game or extend the winning margin. You just have to play the game and accept the outcome for what is on the final scoreboard.

I wasn't at the game. I am just stating what I was told by people who were there. All of them Ashland fans. They all stated that Ironton if not for major mistakes would have blown Ashland out by 35+ pts. That's just how the game goes though.
Russell hasn't turned the ball over once this year. Varsity anyways. Maybe not at all I'm not sure. They could very likely come otu tomorrow and throw 3 interceptions and lose 2 fumbles. you never know how it will play out. Has Ashland mowed the grass this week? and will the sprinklers be running tomorrow morning?

I always hate going to blazer. The parking is horrible. Look out for the lot lizards who want to charge you to park in their yard for $10-$20. (LOL i'd do it too)...leaving the place is a madhouse!!! To bad they don't have shuttle buses. But if we come outta there with a win its worth it!

On a bright note, the paving and painting of the backlot is one of the main features of the new stadium restoration project. Should help a lot with parking for people who refuse to park in the dirt/mud.
As for tailgating, the momcats will be selling plates of food at the entrance to the backlot.
If anybody wants to meet up before the game, just let me know via PM.

If Russell can do a good job keeping Ashland honest with the pass, they should be able to run pretty easy.

I heard Ashland is playing the freshman tonight and will be trying to spread it ou against us like BC did. I really really hope this is the case and this will be a 5+ td blowout. Ashland better try and use size and physicality to control the clock and limit possessions. Attempting a scoring fest with Russell will be futile.

Been there. Done that. And I couldn't agree with you more!! Mine for the 2 years he started, drove us crazy during Ashland week. It starts for them as 9th graders with the Kiwani's bowl and just builds each year.
NOTE: Mine is a freshman in college this year, and when he called home yesterday most of the conversation centered around the game tonight.
Speaking of that, does anyone know if the game is going to be broadcasted on cable anywhere like last year? With him away at school, it would be nice to tape a copy of the game.
thanks

Yes, freshman Sam Hunter will be the starting QB tonight (this was even printed in Thursday's Daily Independent), but you won't be seeing any kind of spread to immolate BC's offense. Drew Royalty had run the entire offense extremely poorly the first 3 games of the season and his disastrous performance against Ironton was the end of the road before a change had to be made. There were also several Ashland injuries that occurred in practice this week that will result in some new faces seeing significant playing time.

It always cracks me up when people say you get cheated at certain schools in the 16th region moreso than others in the 16th...You know what I mean: "You better be 2 td's better at Ashland" or "Refs make it tough to get out of Russell with a win"...This is not Ohio where each school can pick their refs so you get the same "homer" refs at every Ironton game, etc... They are assigned by the 16th Region Assigning Secretary and every school in the 16th region uses the same refs...The crew doing Ashland's home game against Russell this week may be at Russell next week for their game against East Carter...Are they going to cheat for Ashland this week and Russell next week...If they go to Raceland the following week will they cheat for Raceland then?? You are giving the refs way too much credit and the players too little credit for the outcome of games...
I know the Assigning Secretary and most of the refs in the 16th region and I am NOT concerned that Russell will get cheated at Ashland tonight...I am also confident that anyone who comes to Russell will NOT be cheated as well...We need to give that excuse a rest...
