What kind of numbers, playerwise does Paintsville have this year?

Congrats Paintsville, expected a score like this. The Tigers are not that bad of a team and I expect them to compete with Pikeville for district 8.

Something to ponder... after going back thru the years of Tiger Football team photos... back in the early 80's over the years, Paintsville had and has had around 30-35 players as well.
I find this an almost freudian type of topic... while it's interesting to understand why this question is always being asked... it's also amusing to know how many players are actually "playing" on the teams with the larger player count... (only 11 guys can be out there.... even if no one plays both ways... and you have a different guy kicking field goals, punting, kickoffs.... I mean in a game, if your team's bodycount is like 75... does this mean everyone will get adequate time... sometimes bigger is just bigger... the old quantity/quality discussion....
Would you rather be a frosh-soph-jr standing around waiting to maybe get in, if the score warrants wholesale substitutions, or would you rather be out there knocking heads in the heat of battle at every game? I guess it's just all in what you want to get out of it, but this constant questioning of numbers has been asked and answered. In a school our size, with coaches from other sports finally being cool about kids playing more than one sport, we're fine and will be fine. Maybe there is something in the air and the wind of change is blowing in an old school traditional direction... it's about time.

I think numbers of players, to some extent, gauge interest in the program. However, you don't have to have a lot of players to be good...It's just the ones you do have need to be pretty good and you need enough of them that the reserves can give the starters some breaks without losing too much in talent and ability.

Very True.
I like what Hazard's Principal once said about coaches trying to inhibit their players from playing more than one sport...(paraphrasing of course)
"In a school, as small as us, we can not afford for coaches to be selfish with talent"... this used to be the way all small schools looked upon sports.They wanted everyone to play as many as they could or wanted.
Then some got away from it... and this caused great changes and "swings" in interest...
Everyone wants to be on a winner or even associated with a winner, but to be very honest about it, the sports like football, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and larger team sports are always an athlete's best bet... like on a basketball team there's JUST 5 of them... and that's all there's gonna be out there.. granted there will be substitutions, but essentially there's gonna be 12-15 on the whole thing and that's it.
Like you said... numbers are a reflection of interest. Year-before-last around 27-28 played, then last year there were 30-32, this year there's 33-35.... and you have to factor into the equation there is even a jv team now and the numbers are going to go up... there's a resurrgence of interest in Tiger Football and all of the kids in every sport support one another and want to see success. It's a new day for football and IT'S ABOUT DAHMED TIME!

Its also important for people like you, Lisa Douglas, to care enough to voice an opinion. Paintsville deserves to be good in all sports and for the most part they have been. If they give the coach time, Paintsville has always had enough good athletes to be good in football. The "new day for football" hopefully will be around a long time.

Congrats Tigers! No big surprise here though. The Tigers are a good football team this year as long as they stay in their class. I look for them to play well with all of the Class A teams on their schedule. And with the numbers up, that is only a plus..
I agree that only 11 can play at a time, but it really does make a difference when you can put over 30 players on the field. And when you have schools that put 75 or even 100 on the field, that makes a huge difference. But the Tigers have a very high percentage of boys compared with other schools and that is what shows interest.
Keep up the effort and don't sweat the few losses that will probably occur against the bigger schools.

I agree that it is hard to take on the goliath programs, but within our class... judging from what's been put out there.... we can certainly compete... successfully.

When I talk "numbers" to me it means have they got all the talent out of the hallways and away from the xboxes...True only 11 on the field at a time but if you get all the talent out for the sport you can have a lot better 11...

The one thing that numbers can give a program is depth. Get three or 4 key players hurt during the term of the season and that can spell for a disasterous season, even for a team that can put quality players at every position. I always felt that UK could put almost as good of a starting lineup as anyone else in the SEC , but attrition by injury seemed to alter the way in which they played towards the end of the season. The Floridas and the Alabamas always seemed to be able to go 3 to 4 players deep at every position. One goes down, and the next guy on the depth chart steps in, and they never skip a beat. Mass numbers also aid in a program being able to reload season after season rather than try to rebuild when a bumper crop class graduates. I know that smaller enrollment schools dont have that luxery though.
