Here is what was posted on KSR this morning about the top recruits that we are currently targeting.

- It’s amazing how, in 2 years, the recruiting landscape of UK Football has so dramatically changed. I would say 2 years ago, UK would only have serious consideration from 1 or 2 of the top 150 players in the country yearly, and rarely would they get any of them. Now, just take a look at scout.com player rankings. The Cats have already landed Morgan Newton and Ryan Mossakowski, not to mention the 2nd rated center in the country Sam Simpson, and have another 4 guys still considering the Cats who are 4 or 5 star:

Hayo Carpenter: *****JUCO WR, 5′11” 175 lbs., 4.37 40-yard dash

Justin Brown: ****WR, 6′3” 215 lbs., 4.48 40-yard dash

Cornellius Carradine: ****DE, 6′4” 230 lbs., Cincinnati, OH

Terrance Lloyd: ****DE, 6′3” 215 lbs., Houston, TX

Up to this point, Kentucky has One 5-star, One 4-star, Ten 3-star, and Six 2-star. And since this week is being used to crush the Cardinals as much as possible, they only have One 3-star, and Five 2-star kids commited. Thats right, only 6 commits right now, while UK has pulled in 19. More comparison: UK has Twelve 3-star and better, UL has ONE!!!! The gap is widening, and so long as Joker Phillips doesn’t turn into Steve Kragthorpe, UK should hold on to that Governor’s Cup trophy for a while.

I believe that UK is starting to run short on available scholarships. They currently sit at around 18-19 commits, while it is being reported that they will not have the full complement of 25 scholly's to give (due to the overall limit of 85 total). Yet I fully expect Brooks and Co. to continue to pursue these top recruits like crazy and probably land a few more of them.

Of course, there may be some early draft entrants, and there are always a few players that quit for medical reasons, transfer, or get booted off (see Pulley, Curtis). But methinks that the way things are looking, some of those 2-star guys may be asked to come in as "grayshirts", if they want to come at all.

There were some current commits who won't be coming. One was from Lex who got kicked off his team. Another one or two I believe suffered career ending injuries. So right now I believe UK has about 6 schollies left.

Hopefully I can watch the Devils play against Ridge Wilson in the state game.
