The Massey Ratings are out!
#1
See their pre-season rankings here:

These ratings are so inaccurate during the preseason and throughout the season, but when the playoffs roll around they are pretty accurate.

Right now these ratings are crap and so is the CalPreps ratings.
#3
These people are stupid, thinking Pikeville is going to lose to Corbin.
#4
Belfry is far better than 51st in the state.
#5
I agree, the Massey ratings are maybe the worst ratings I have ever seen for many reasons. One main reason is definitely that Belfry isn't even on the first page, lol, thats a joke.

I don't know why you all even bother looking at them....I guess just to say its stupid, lol. Read about the ratings first, especially the preseason rankings.

Preseason Ratings
Preseason ratings are typically derived as a weighted average of previous years' final ratings. As the current season progresses, their effect gets damped out completely. The only purpose preseason ratings serve is to provide a reasonable starting point for the computer. Mathematically, they guarantee a unique solution to the equations early in the season when not enough data is available yet.

I just put it up there for something to talk about.

Russell is ranked "WAY TO LOW".Behind Johnson Central and Belfry? Please!!!!
#9
In pre-season, you all are right. The ratings are very poor.

However, it gets much better as the season allows more data into the program. By the end of the year, they absolutely put the Cantrall and Litkenhaus to shame.

But...we gotta have something to talk about. LOLOL...

You are correct by week 7 they are almost spot on.

Why do most people get so upset over preseason rankings? In my opinion preseason rankings are worthless. It's where you finish that matters.
#15
I like where they have Russell ranked in Class AAA!

True, but you also want to see your team get credited with the respect that they deserve.

Yeah youd think since Massey Coal was ranking football teams that Belfry would be #1 in the state every year! LOL!Wink

Welcome to the best site in town! If you need anything, just let me know.

Really do not see how Russell would be rated above Breathitt, but it is the pre-season rankings.....I do agree that the rankings become more accurate as the season progresses.

Yeah, I do not follow your logic so you will have to explain this one and validate why Russell, who fell in the State Quarters last year and seemingly return less experience than Belfry, who dominated the Eastern half of 3A, can honestly be justified as being ahead of the Pirates at this point?

It's the preseason and that's when everybody is #1 in the state. They are all tied. Smile

So exactly how many "contributing" transfers did the Russell program receive this off season? Im not sure how much "a tick ahead of them" is but it may be one of the craziest posts ive read on this site.

I really fail to see why he has to validate an opinion.

I will say I think people are overestimating what Russell lost. Tyler Jones was a big loss but that came after the injury in the Asland game. He was never close to 100% the rest of the year.

Other than that they graduated most of the defensive line and 3 offensive linemen. Good players but all replaceable. Everyone else is back stronger and healthier.

Belfry lost much more in May and Hickman and I believe two offensive linemen.

Breathitt County lost their quarterback which is a huge loss in that offensive system. They were decent upfront and had very good but not great recievers.

Really I believe you give Belfry a slight edge because of returning linemen. With Russell and Breathitt County very close if not just as good.

None that I am aware.

Russell returns alot of talent. Much more than many are giving them credit for.

Belfry lost OT Jimbo Stanley only on the line...May and Jones are equal losses... Phillip was a good player but as you said about Russell's D-linemen, he is replaceable. Belfry has been plugging in quick DT's since the early 2000's that can disrupt backfield's and timing.

If you have an opinion that against the ordinary, you should be able to backup your opinion with an arguement. That's what I want to see. It's a forum for discussion, it wouldn't be any fun if everyone simply stated their team was the best and never had to explain why.

I have given them credit in every pre-season ranking I have personally came up, but they also do not return any more talent than any of a cluster of teams who enjoyed more success on the gridiron last season. I put Russell at a pre-season #5 slot behind Central, Belfry, Tilghman, and Breathitt.

May and a healthy Tyler Jones were equal. Fortunately or unfortunately Russell had to learn how to play without him last season. Hickman IMO was a bigger loss than what you thank. I thought he was really the glue to that defense. Noone that Russell lost, besides Jones, had that much of an impact on defense.

I thought Russell had better personel than Breathitt last year they just didn't finish them off when they had the chance. That is to Breathitt's credit. Russell returns the entire secondary and linebacking corp. On offense they return the entire backfield and arguably the best tight end in Eastern Kentucky.

All three teams mentioned should be just fine. The bigger question to me is do any of them have enough team speed to knock off Central or PT.

I like to see people back up their opinions as well but if they don't I don't want to take the time to type that much that is their perogative.
