Weve got about 42 out there now with several more gone out of town that will be back in the next week or so. By the time these kids all get back we should have right close to 50 players. We have four new seniors coming out in Zach Taylor (6'0 300!), Zach Dingus, John Boggs, and Taylor Stone. All these kids have played in the past but sat out the last couple of years. Junior Justin Mullins (6'5 280) back out after sitting out last year. We have 2 new kids one is a stocky but real athletic kid from Virginia whos a junior and the other is from Betsy Layne hes 6'4 and every bit of 330 and is just a freshmen hes got some catching up to do but he'll be alright by next year. Our returning seniors are doing what I knew they would do and thats showing strong leadership. Almost all of the 8th graders from last year have came out this year which is a big improvement from last year. Overall it looks like were going to be alot deeper than we have been in the last few years and that will do nothing but help us as the season goes on.

Plus Im sure Copely doesnt want to take the risk of burning these boys out because we go to camp next Thursday-Monday. That means that starting with Mondays practice theyre going to be practicing for seven straight days so they need a little time to heal their bodies before they are put through the meat grinder next week. You always gotta find something to gripe about dont you? LOL!

Good time to take a day off.

So if you drive by their field and they aren't practicing, you say they are taking the day off?? Have you ever thought that they might be practicing at another time besides when you happen to drive by the field?

I was told that Pikeville is practicing very late at night, something like 8-10.

Spin it any way you want, but it's never a good thing when your opponents are working harder/practicing more than you are.

If I am not mistaken, Pikeville started their practices about 1 week before most of the other teams around here did. If you are still so worried about how hard we are working our boys then you need to come down and start running practice so that everybody in the state can see how great of a coach you are and how your presence automatically makes Pikeville a state title contender. Please get over yourself and trust me that no one around is out working us right now.

Didn't Pikeville start on Tue, July 15? And trust me, Pikeville has not practiced more than anyone.

Last year you were on here complaining that Jackson was working these kids too hard and running alot of them off and now you come on here this year and start complaining that Copely isnt working them hard enough. So I guess you just like to complain about things. I belive youre the type of person who would find a glass of water in the middle of the desert and complain because it didnt have ice cubes in itLOL! . When Pikeville hits the field this year youll se how hard theve worked and I dont believe youll be disappointed. Take my word for it these boys are already in alot better shape than they were this time last year.

A lot of coaches will give their team days off if they've busted their tails off all week, its not a rare thing.
Plus its a huge confidence booster if Copley is letting his players know that they have been out performing to their best in practice each and every day.

I'll take your word for it. If they are prepared, they will take care of business in the PCB. A ton of potential for this team to shock a lot of people.

How do you know other teams are working harder? I've always believed that it's how a team practices that will get them better not how much they practice.

All I'm saying is I'm sure teams have 100 things to work on in their second week of practice...and don't need a day off when they haven't even started any contact yet, especially when their opponents are practicing...ask around and see if Belfry, P'burg, Hazard, Corbin, etc practiced Friday evening...and I really doubt Pikeville gets more out of a 2-hour non-contact practice than any of those teams...
Less and less practice time every year and your team better use every minute...Pikeville had only had a few 2 hour practices at night with no contact (and I know they lift during the day)...
I know I'll be called the a-hole here, but Pikeville has disappointed for the last few years and slid in prestige...and they should be practicing every second they are allowed to, and not be taking the night off in the second week of non-contact practice while their opponents are out there practicing...:devilflam

45 to 50 players is a great number for Pikeville Football. Typically at Pikeville as camp nears the men are separated from the boys and the number drops to about 35 kids. The new players and the ones riding the fence as to play or not to play usually drop off this time of year as nut-crunching time begins!!
Hopefully this is a new era and the numbers stay around 50. Any updates??

Great post. Down to 40 before camp and a couple days off already when everybody else was practicing.

One had some family issues and the other figured that going on vacation with his girlfreind was more important than football. I hate it for these boys sake cause its something both of them will regret later on in life but it is what it is. Taking 40 to camp is a heck of a lot better than last year when we only took about 25-30. I agree 100% that camp seperates who wants to play and who is just out there to get a jersey to wear on game day. One thing is for sure. Were gonna know exactly whos who by this time next week.
Hopefully this is a new era and the numbers stay around 50. Any updates??

Is that a KHSAA rule or just something done by Pikeville?
