Who will be the next girls coach at Allen Central, They should give Ronnie Patton a chance....

I like Ronnie Patton- but I don't see that happening. Ronnie Patton and Johnny Martin are both victims of Sis Hall's scorn. Ronnie Patton coached ACHS baseball to their first regional title and was fired days later. Johnny Martin led ACHS to back to back District Championships when most in the 15th region said they couldn't win anything. They were also invited to the WYMT/Wayne Supply Tourney for this upcoming season, I doubt that invitation would have been extended had the selection committee known this.

Patton should have been offered the job when Halbert left for Pikeville. No way will she give it to him. She will probably hire Mark Martin to do both or Colonel Maynard to coach another sport. I heard the Hancock guy, but that is ridiculous. He will be in way over his head. You are correct, she pulled the rug out from under Patton after winning the region in baseball, and now she has done it to Johnny. What exactly do Larry Maynard & Mark Martin do for her that Ronnie Patton & Johnnny Martin wouldn't?Big Grin I think we all know the answer to that one.

Hancock is a good guy

The Hancock guy you are talking about is a great person would do anything for anyone...He good to the kids and fair to the kids I never send any coach do what he does for the kids on 8th grade night.. He does not coach for the money because he spend it back on the kids... He has done a great job with the girls job at the middle school and the kids love him to deaf and respect him.. I don't think he would get in that mess at the High School because he is a dear friend of Coach Johnny Martin but he would be a good one for the job far as the kids go. And the girls that are playing there are the girls he has coached..

He is a great person so leave him out of this..

I never said Mr. Hancock wasn't a good guy. I just said he will be in way over his head. Coaching middle school and coaching high school are totally different with way more requirements than anyone imagines until they have been in charge and actually had to do it all. Does he meet the KHSAA requirements? I think Pike Central will also find it is very difficult for a coach to transition from MS to HS.....

My sister play for Coach Hancock and she respects him and think the world of him never got to play a lot but still respect him as a Coach..No he does not meet the requirements of KHSAA to Coach High School but I wish he did.. But I can't wait to see his team at the middle school in action this upcoming year..
Just hope the High School can get someone that can keep a team together they really don't have a lot girls that come out to play there.. And I agree it would a big step up to go from the Middle School to High School but one thing I know for sure he will be back at the Middle School trying to do anything he can to help the High School...

I understand that former AC girls player Tiffany Turner will be named the new head coach of the Lady Rebs...But it has not been officially announced. Coach Hancock from the middle school will be his assitant. Terri Mullins, another former player, will also be on the coaching staff, possibly as the freshman coach.

Tiffany graduated from AC in 2003 and has recently graduated from ALC. She doesn't have a teaching job at AC. And before we all go off the deep end about Sis Hall's policy of hiring coaches inside the school, I do know from sources inside the situation that no one in the school wanted the job, so they looked elsewhere. Also, Rick Hancock is not a certified employee and cannot become the Girls Head Coach.

Turner has previous experience as an assistant Volleyball coach at South Floyd and assistant softball coach at Allen Central.

I wish Turner good luck, but this will be tough situation for her to come into, although the team made progress under Mark Martin last season. Could AC have searched harder for a more experienced coach? Probably. However, she will have Rick Hancock on the sideline and hopefully anykind of "divide" that has been in the athletic department previously will disappear and everyone will work together. Not to say there was trouble before, but I believe Mark Martin will be helping the girls when possible and everyone involved will be working to build a better program at Allen Central.

We may not agree on what has happened at Allen Central. But let's get behind Mark and Tiffany, along with everyone else involved and support the kids.

Well I guess middle school to high school would have been better than getting someone that never has Coach at all..

Coach Hancock will not be the assistant Coach for the girls at the High School he turn that job down..I talk to him today and he only going to Coach at the Middle School only..

WOW...If that holds up, it's a tough blow to the HS program. He's a good coach.

Rick Hancock is by far the finest Middle School basketball coach (girls or boys) in Floyd county. He knows the game plus he knows when to administer 'tough love' when he has to...and the greatest compliment I guess he could get is that all of his former and current players just love him because he is so good to them...and they know that he is fair and can coach.

Eventually, AC girl's basketball will stabilize with a coach that will want to stay and see it get back to prominence. I think Tiffany Turner might be the person that does that.

I hope Coach Hancock helps out with the high school program...but if he doesn't...he will be churning out good players from the middle school. Just imagine what kind of team ACHS would have had last year without the middle schoolers...!!!

I hope everyone will embrace Ms. Turner and realize this is a new experience for her...give her some time...she has a load of young girls. It takes a couple of years to get a system in place.

Whomever the Assistant Coach is...they are going to have to learn just like everyone else.

I wish turner the best of luck and she sure is going to need that.I just hope they get some good asst. to help her out I would had loved to seen coach handcock help her out tho. you cant beat that man he is a wonderful and caring man that knows how to get the best out of his players and she could deffintly use someone like him

Hancock will do well with helping the young coach. Wish them all well. Just seems like a mess to deal with, but hopefully they will overcome.

Mr. Hancock is by far the class act of Floyd County coaches. He understands the game and shows alot of class each and every time his teams are on the court.

I couldn't agree with you more about Coach Hancock!

He not only is a class act with other teams...he's that way every single day with his own players.

He goes way above and beyond what he has to do with his teams.
On top of that...he knows the game and how to get the most out of his players.

I have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time around Coach Hancock...he's the real deal.

At times...Coach Hancock gets criticized for margin that some of his teams win by...trust me...he is very aware of the score and would never run up the score on anyone. I can't say that about all the coaches in Floyd County...there have been times in years past that some teams have beat Allen Central by big margins and would do it again...if they could.

Coach Hancock is a huge asset for the Allen Central High School program...and a great friend to a lot of people...including myself.
