That's right Defense is everything!! If people can line up and run it right down your throat whenever they want then you end up 3-7 or in that range. But you are right you have to play Defense. Hopefully Powell's D will be better with alot of underclassmen who started last year getting another year in the weight room.
Powell's D scheme needs to be more oriented to fitting their personel. Coach Whitaker will have them much better on both sides of the ball and I'm sure he will have the say in what D scheme they will be running so it will be much improved.irateSho

Those total 21 pts., even did the math for you. Betsy Layne ran a kick off back, 6 more. Breathitt ran one int back 6 pts plus PAT =7. Breathitt also scored off of 3 turnovers =21 pts. Had Morgan 33-0 mid 3rd qtr. looking for a shutout but was forced to sub. In return 18 straight by Morgan. I didn't feel like doing the whole schedule so I just did these 4 for ya. So there is 67 pts. the defense was not responsible for. That would put Powells pts given up per game close to 21, 3 pts less than Estill. Guess what, still would have been 3-7. If I need to prove more I will. The kids were only going to get better, quit embarrassing your county by bashing me when the proof is there to prove the Defense wasn't as bad as you let on. Powell had 31 takeaways last year. You should win more than 3 games when you do that. 3 per game, did math for you again. Only problem, not scoring and more giveaways. Just one more reminder, remember the first game against Jackson Co., Powell fumbled inside it's own 10 which led to you guessed it 7 pts. There is 74 pts. for you guru! hh:

My friend, laugh if you want! Estill is absolutely loaded! And the good part for them is the sophomore and freshmen class coming up. They look like giants on the field that can run like deer! If internal problems can be fixed and they can get the defense to just giving up 14 pts. per game, they are gonna be hard to beat. They gave up 24 pts. per game last year, which cost them in the end. Hard to outscore the Bobcats, if you know what I mean. Talked with a long time coaching friend from the mountains, he said he had never seen an Estill team like last years (talking about talent), they are all back with more strength and speed, so we will see.

Rice looks alot better, Rose has gained alot of speed. Look for alot of improvement from last season. No predictions on W-L but they will be much improved.
Crowe has looked good in Passing league. The team will be alot stronger, they have lived in the weight room.

One of the greatest coaches of Kentucky history. He DID NOT put his kids in the weight room. He rather them be 3 sport players.

Why can't they play multiple sports and weight train? A lot of schools have in-school weightlifting so kids can lift year round while they play multiple sports.

That was our vest record. And COach Jones also had two 4-6 seasons and 1 1-9 season. The first 4-6 season, we beat West Carter and Lewis County for the first time in school history. His second, we went 3-0 our first games and had one of the best defenses in the state. And then the 1-9 season happened. We just didn't have any leadership.

Come on ........you never play anyone tough outside your district.

OK. I will not respond to anymore of the Powell Co. talk. I will just read what is written, because I'm sure there will be alot of it. I'm sure they'll be 10-1,or 9-2 again next year. Probably play Trinity and St. X close, WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't talk about my favorite team because I knew they were gonna have a down year. When we start winning again, I'll talk about how good they are. That will save you Powell guys alot of grief.

Oh, and if you think Mike Whitaker is gonna stick around, you've got a rude awakening coming. Powell is just a stop a little further east than he was. He's not quiet as far south as he wants to be just yet.

I could be wrong but to be respectful you need to play teams outside the district that are better than Phelps, Berea, Knott Co, Pineville, and Bourbon Co who had the longest losing streak in the state, and play them close or win. Pineville beat them and had a losing record and the Breathitt game/s were done at the half. I guess people have different opinions of what is respectable.

I think it sounds like you are a little sour with Powell and Estill. Powell cause they fired you and Estil cause they would not hire you. Pineville and Bourbon are alot better teams then they get credit for.
