I think that belfry is the ''top dog'' of high school football in EKY. But when they go to Lex. or Lou. they are not that much probably just an above average football team in those areas. Central absolutely killed belfry with their combo of athleticsm and strength, it was really exposed on the Elkins inerception. I dont know how they would go into Papa Johns Stadium and win against somebody like Central (who is average nothing special in louisville and had a .500 record) or could even face somebody who is better than Central next year. Also doing this without Dustin May. Also the thing people are saying that Central fans being rude, I had no prob with their fans celebrating if thats what you mean as being rude. I have no doubt that Belfry can get to the state champ next year.

The game of the east should be between the TWINS again this year. Russell or Belfry.... But to say that Central was a moderate apponent shows how much about football people really know. .5oo means didilly squat when you play better teams and get challenged. Central played the tough schedule and had some losses, but gained so much more in their defeats. they learned how to win and it payed off in the long run.
Belfry had nothing to hang their heads about, Central was a great team. Very talented, strong and fundamentally sound. One winner one looser, that is how the game is played.

Comparing ANY of 6A to them isn't fair.
And the prehalftime interception TD should have been called back. Drew was about to tackle the kid and was clipped. Don't say he wasn't, because I've watched the film and remember it from the game plain as day.
Central WAS the best team Belfry played all year though. I will give them that.
But this is supposed to be about Belfry '08.
I just hope I can make it home for the playoffs, cause I'll be traveling most of the season.

Best of luck to Belfry this season, I hope that you take it to the carpet and win it all!

Belfry will once again be the favorite in the East and will be just as dangerous if not more dangerous than last year. The loss of May hurts, but is not a crippling blow because they return a more than capable horse (Ivan Lee) and an experienced offensive line that will make room for any back. I thought the one thing Belfry lacked last year was a speed burner back. Somebody who when they got a step on you, you never got it back. Belfry has always had those types of backs (Maynard, Jones, Howard, & Childers just to name a few) but last year lacked that threat. I think that the Varney kid could fill that position and heard rumors that some speed burners moved into Belfry from the Williamson area. If that is so then they will be extremley hard for anyone to handle.
Best of luck to Belfry in the upcoming season I hope you win every game your not playing Sheldon Clark.

How will Belfry do in Football this year

Belfry will be great this year.

I look forward to watching the Pirates again this upcoming season, should have another loaded team.

IMO Belfry should get some games with bigger and/or better schools like Lexington Catholic, Henry Clay, and Letcher Central in the regular season. Maybe having the need to try for touchdowns instead of beating up on smaller local mountain schools like Pikeville, Pike Central, and East Ridge

Pike Central and East Ridge are in Belfry's district...no choice in who is in your district, the games have to be played.
The rivalry between Belfry and Pikeville makes for one of the better games of the season IMO.

They tried to get one with Bell County but the distance was to great, but they went to Sheldon Clark. They tried Ashland, Prestonsburg. They tried several elite programs, but it just wasn't happening. Haywood would much rather play the tough teams. But dropping Pikeville would be stupid.

Lexington Catholic, Henry Clay... LETCHER CENTRAL..... one of these is not like the other? But which one could it be?
I would much rather Belfry play a larger more tradiiton rich school than east carter, Shelby Valley, or Lawrence County... but Letcher Central as a benchmark? Come on man! The Pirates alredy play a better 5A opponent in Johnson Central as it is.

IMO this years East Ridge team will give Belfry a lil bit more of a challenge...Now im not saying ER will win...Just saying no more 40+ point blowouts. Instead of running the ball JUST ABOUT EVERY PLAY like the last 6 years of Warrior football. The new spread offense should prove a more dificult challenge to defend. Now I think as Far as Pike Central goes they be running a similar formation but compleatly diffrent offense system goes. They will be running the Tony Franklin system from what iv heard from Coach Mac. Good Luck Belfry this season.

A year is not going to make that much difference, Belfry is just bigger, faster, and stronger plus every player has about a 4 year head start on anyone from ER.

Oh I know that. I not going to fight about that at all. I am no ER fan either. Just a friend of ER HC Brad Allen. I was looking at it logically though, most of every team Belfry will play will not have the coaching exp as those at ER now. If you look at it logically offense vs defense wise ER's offense should put points on the board. Thats all im saying.

I have no doubt that in the long run ER will improve drastically under Allen and the spread offense will be a welcome chnage in Belfry's district.
BUT, looking at it "logically" from an experience, skill, and fundamental standpoint. This year will probably still be a 40+ point blowout. Belfry has been winning by 50+ on the scoreboard vs. ER, but those scores could have been much worse as the Pirate starters typically see less than the first series of the second half.
Belfry will have one of the best defenses in the state regardless of class, last year Corbin ran the spread offense and was shut out by Belfry, points won't be as easy to come by as you think.

Bear Bryant couldn't out coach anyone without the proper amount of talent. East Ridge will not be able to score on Belfry any more so than usual. Do you really think Belfry has never seen a spread before? Do you think Phillip Haywood could not use his 5-2 against a spread? East Ridge has far less experience coaching that Belfry I promise. East Ridge always has some good athletes, but untill the community and the administration back the football team it won't matter.

Throwing the football on every down does not help an average/below average team. Stopping the clock with incomplete passes just makes the game longer! Magoffin County has made great strides over the past few years because they have abandoned the pass happy offense and started running the football.

When will KHSAA have the 2008 rosters out? Do any of you Belfry fans know who is going to fill in the gaps for those seniors that graduated.

Who is the guy comparing Lou. Cent. to St. X and Trinity? These are 2 of the top programs in the NATION. Kids attend these schools for the sole purpose of playing football.

KHSAA typically wont post a roster. The oly rosters they release come before the State Finals for the teams participating. You will porbably have to wait and keep an eye out for the News-Express of WDN to issue a football preview to get one.
My best guess at who will fill the gaps:
HB Dustin May ---> Thomas Varney, with Lee and Dotson returning
SE Ryan Preston --> Timmy Lovern
T Jimbo Stanley--> ?, either Zack Francis,John Bishop, Jeremy Maynard, or Garrett Francis
TE Adam Bowens--> Cory Coleman, with Gary Hall moving in at Coleman's spot
K Glenn Earnest--> Ivan Lee
DT Phillip Hickman--> Chancey Cisco
DE Adam Bowens and LB Dustin May--> Cory Coleman from DE to LB with Shane Blackburn and Gary Hall moving to the DE's
CB Ryan Preston--> Timmy Lovern
FS John Young--> ? A.J. Patrick or Corey Charles
