Now that Coach Butcher is gone to Mason County who will take over as the Lady Hawks Coach? Will it be Coach Mercer? or Will it be Coach Coomer? Does anyone know?

THEY need to do the right thing and give coach TUSSEY her job back.

Tussey does not want the job anymore from what she has told me. The ad will go out Monday for the job.

Anyone remembe the young lady who helped at Johnson Central about 3 or 4 years ago. Someone needs to go after her. I remember her has a player also. She has experience and is a proven leader.

She is out of basketball, she had two kids and thats how she spends her time.

They need a good defensive coach cause defense will win them games the offense will just sell the tickets

Never mind. I read the other post. Sorry.

BballFan63 Wrote:Help me out here. Who is Heather? Who is Phillip?Heather and Phillip Birchfield, Phillip use to be an assistant under David Rowe at Pike Central who did half of the coaching and David did the other half basically. Phillip is a genius when it comes to basketball, however he can not be head coach due to he is principal at Mullins. So his wife Heather would be considered the head coach which she was an assistant under Cindy at Belfry back in the late 90s but stopped coaching b/c they had a child. She played at Fleming Neon and then furthered her carrier at Pikeville College. These two combined with the old boys coaching staff with the exception of David would be PHENOMENAL for these girls. I hope it happens.

You are right. Basketball is a game where defense wins the game, offense will fall in place if you have a good defensive team.

Theres alot of talk about Amanda Collins(Stiltner) taking over the PC job. She coached at Belfry this year and didn't have that great of a start....does ne one have any news about this or is it just hearsay?

I don't think any of you have mentioned who will get the job. "Politics" will definitely be in play. SlamaBamma you are good for a lot of people's egos.. Birchfield a Basketball Genius? The only person in this region who could be considered a "great authority" on basketball just retired. (BMR). I really think you have to pay your dues in order to become a head coach. I think counties who look at coachs with little experience always end up having problems. The most difficult thing a coach will face in Pike County is the politics and parents. I really question how important it has become to win and build a winning program at a school. It takes time and it is amazing that Pike County would not want to try to continue that success. Kids are resiliant they will recover and play for whoever. It will be important who ever gets the job to continue building their feeder programs and not let 1 or 2 of the better players "defect " to that up and coming program in their district...

The Birchfields won't do it. They have a young daughter and he has plenty of work on his plate as a principal. Heather was a great player, but NEVER wanted to be a head coach. She was happy to be out of it when she got out.
Amanda Collins-Stiltner might be a possibility since she is an alum.
Very doubtful that Tussey would want it or that they would want her. She still has a pending lawsuit against the Pike BOE.
I think it is odd that no one ever mentions what kind of teachers any of the prospective coaches or the former coach was. Doesn't anyone care if they teach? LOL Perhaps that is why there has been some shifting at PCC......I would think good teachers that are also good coaches would have a great deal of job security regardless of politics.

It amazes me how word get around that even isn't true. I was at the meeting with the parents and players the other day. They were told who the applicants were so far, they still have to wait 30 days before hiring. Gary Fields has applied and so far he is the front runner. He is the one that the parents are wanting that has applied so far. Crank is no longer employed with the district and probably will not be back.
