i think P-Burg is going to be a very good defensive team this year
#3

#4
Belfry
Prestonsburg
Pikeville
Sheldon Clark
Letcher Central
Johnson Central
Hazard

Those are really the only teams that can really stop or slow down any offense in there respected classes.

Bell County had the number one defense in 4-A all season and nearly all classes in 2007. The Bobcats defense held Lexington Catholic to a much close game than the 35-16 score showed. 3 big plays accounted for most of their points. Merrick's 90% plus touchback ratio on over 70 kickoffs....started the offense on the 20 nearly every time. Bell only punted sixteen times all season...but six were inside twenty....and 0 return yardage. Nearly everyone is back for Bell. Some key players will be missed, but there are experienced players ready to fill the gap.

Yeah and we really appreciate that here at BGR... We need some more members from Bell County area to get us updated. So go and recruit some new members.

It would be appreciated.

Top D in the mountains? I'd say Belfry, Pikeville, and Bell Co.
#12
Was Pikeville's D all that impressive last year? I don't see how it could possibly be better with the lost of the Honaker twins.
#13

Last year maybe, but Pikeville had very good defenses all four years before last season.

In no particular order:

Pburg
Belfry
Bell County
Hazard
Russell (even though they ain't in the WYMT coverage area, I consider them to be a mountain team)
Johnson Central
Pikeville
#16
JC
Pburg
Bell
#17
Belfry, Pburg, JC.
#18
scheldon clark
Belfry
Bell Co.

The best defenses overall will not have the best stats. Breathitt County will have a strong team, but they play a weak district schedule and it will make them look better than what they are IMO. I think Belfry, Bell County, Russell, Breathitt, Prestonsburg, and pretty much all of the usual teams that are strong all have good defenses. I work at the radio station that carries Green County games, and they play Hazard in the 1st game of the season in Lexington I think. Green County only lost 1 game last season, but lost a lot of talent, so they will not be as good as they were last season IMO. They run an offense that reminds me of a Russell .

To say Hazard has a better defense that Breathitt is Smile.....Breathitt could score 30 on Hazard on a bad day.....Hazard may be able to stop a team that runs the ball well or passes the ball well, but they can not stop a team that is good at both. Hazard is not even in the same league as Breathitt, Belfry, Russell, Bell Co. or any of the other mountain powers.

i agree LCC had a great D last year i mean did anyone watch the LCC vs Clay Co. game at Clay Co.? LCC down 30-7 at halftime and only allow Clay to score one more TD the whole game an then come back and win 40-37...Our whole D is back an gonna be even better than last years D

Hazard could compete with any of those teams last year but maybe not of won but that is really my opinion. And saying that Breathitt could score 30 on a bad on Hazard is just insult. They only played 3 teams that I would classify to the caliber of Hazard and that is Prestonsburg which they won by 5 points, beat Russell by 3 points, and then got hammered by a Belfry team. They only beat Cawood team by 14 points whose record was 4-7 not real impressive in my opinion( not putting Cawood down neither because there quarterback was super). Sure they beat a Lexington Christian team but so did hazard. But I will say this though Breathitt was a very impressive team which airing the ball out and running it right down your throat , but I don't think the will be nearly as good as last year.

^ i watched several hazard passing games at UK this summer and there pass D was not very impressive
#26
I would say not. They had several Freshmen on the field during passing league. Zach Blanton had 7 interceptions during the Louisville Passing League. James Oden who had 2 interception during Louisville Passing League as well.( Words Quoted From a member of the hazard football team).

My opinion is based solely on watching the last scrimmage before the regular season starts, and scrimmages are in no way an excellent indicator.

But based on how easily Belfry moved the ball in varsity vs. varsity action I would say NO Hazard could not compete with those teams.

Once again it was a scrimmage, but Belfry carved up the Hazard defense while using a very limited of caries by Dustin May.

42 points allowed to Hazard
37 allowed to Clay County twice
33 and 26 allowed to Whitley County
52 allowed to Highlands

330 points allowed for the season against a less than stellar schedule

compared to:
Bell County 116 points allowed (just as many games, equal competition or better)
Belfry 202 points allowed (2 more games, equal competition or better)
Breathitt 215 points allowed (1 more game, equal competition or better)
Hazard 278 points allowed (1 more game, equal competition or better)
Johnson Central 275 points allowed (same number of games, equal competition or better)
Johnson Central
Sheldon Clark 223 points allowed (One less game, equal or better competition)
Pburg 162 points allowed (Just as many games, equal or better competition)

Most of Breathitt points allowed were allowed by the JV and Freshmen
