Paintsville vs. Holmes - (2nd Round Sweet16)

basketballfan000 Wrote:The only thing that concerns me is that they play only 6 or so and in the state Tournament you have to look at the bench. The may be ok for Frid. but if you play a team that plays 8 or 10 ten no matter what they will have an advantage

J-town did the same thing. They went 8-10 deep and we stayed with them, and from what the radio guys were saying they showed no signed of fatigue in the fourth quarter. I think these guys have been playing 6 deep all year and they are conditioned for it. That's not what's gonna hurt them Friday. I think the speed of the game will play a big part on Friday. Slow=Paintsville advantage, Fast=Holmes big advantage.

Is it something even more like a child and "I do not want this team to win" Why can we not realize that we are sometimes are on worst problems. I want my team to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After that, I WANT MOUNTAIN TEAMS TO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How in the world can anyone from the mountains not want them to win? Do you not realize that that when they do it makes ALL of the mountains look good? If we go down there and get beat by 20-30 then you read int the paper things like, they played hard, good luck, etc. After reading some of the things I have looked at, know wander we can not get respect!!! Put your school pride aside and realize that we come from the same place.

Not everyone on this site lives in the Mountains. It's not Mountainrivals.com. We need this site to grow so people out side of the mountains are welcomed here. I'm from the mountains and are picking Holmes to win. But, I also picked J-Town to win and what happened.Wink

I disagree, Shelby Valley could beat J-town and should have earlier in the year. But nice post, good see we got 2-3 fans from Valley with some class and showin the Tigers some support.

Paintsville plays as hard as any team I have ever watched. I am not a Bill Mike Runyon fan, far from it, but you can not call yourself a true basketball fan if you don't appreciate the fire these young men play with and the way Coach Runyon gets every ounce of energy from them. If P'ville shoots well they will be in the ball game with anyone they play. It could be Holmes, Lex. Cath, Mason Co, or any other team.

*By the way. In 1996 BMR won a state championship with basically a 6 man rotation. He started Vanhoose, C. Ratliff, McKinzie, Tackett, & M. Ratliff. He then brought Short off the bench to provide quality minutes when needed. Now he played other kids, but this was his main rotation, espically at state. That style seemed to work out pretty good for him. Now I'm not saying that this team is any better or worse than that one, but the logic of having a lack of a bench is not bullit-proof. Teams have won with little to no bench before and at some point or another they will win again.

The threads go like this. positive, positive, positive, positive, positive, positive, positive, negative, positive, positive. You can probably tell which one yours is.
What is your Problem? Someone says anything you dont like you go off on them, Thats their opinion. So why sit and complain about it?
Hopefully the Tigers can pull it out.

As long as the Tigers keep their composure; make their shots and slow the game down they will be fine. I know they like to run and that isn't all bad in this game, but we can't afford to get into too much running with them because that usually leads to fouls and fatigue and that is something the Tigers can't afford.

I expect Holmes will use the same game plan that J-town did - wear the Tigers out with their bench.

It will be hard for the Tigers to shoot as well as they did against J-town, but the Tigers will be in this game and hopefully will win it!

I think the Tigers will come out on top with a score of 78-66

I hardly went off about it. Chill out. I'm not the only one either if you'll read on after that, I don't know why you chose to single me out?

If you read other posts on there prior to the Jtown game just about everyone was picking Jtown by double digits, saying they were hard nosed defensively and very athletic. Someone said that Landon would go off for 30+ and another said he would score 20 and the Tigers would win and got laughed out of there. That site is probably 97% NKY and holds a dark cloud over EKY for some reason no matter what the sport may be. We always will be inferior in their eyes and if they see some bad situation come about in the mountains, especially the JC small football ordeal, they try to jump all over it. If they see someone as a possible threat to "God's Country" they do their best to push them down.

I respect your opinion on Paintsville gettin beat, but no way do they get beat by 18 points. Lex Cath only beat them by 17 earlier in the year at Lex Cath and Paintsville was without Blake Bundy.

Being without Bundy was probably to Paintsville's advantage!!!!!

Bundy may make turnovers now an then but he is a solid defender and a great passer... I like Paintsville in this one... All us Belfry fans are rooting for you...

 I don't know how you can say something like that. Sure he makes a few bad passes during a game, everyone does and if Blake is the only one you see then obviously you think everyone else is perfect and can do nothing wrong. The only problem I see with this Tiger team when getting pressed is that when they inbound the ball they all run off and leave him and go stand around the 3-pt. line instead of staying back like they are supposed to and giving help to bring the ball up court. That's what happend to Landon, Pack, and Murray during that LexCath game. When they do get it across half court they dribble directly to the corner and pick up their driblle where you basically have 3 defenders in a man to man situation(half court stripe, out of bounds line, and the on ball defender). They dig themselves into those situations by not doing some of the little things, like staying back to help the ball get up court, that kids are taught in buddy ball. The other night against JTown's press for 3.5 quarters they had 3 men helping get the ball up court but when it got tight they all wanted to leave the man facing a trap situation trying to get down court to add a few baskets to their scoring column. Like it or not Bundy has helped them out quite a bit during the season. I don't know how many times someone else would've pulled up and took the shot instead of dishing it to find the higher percentage shot. Would JD do that? Would Landon do that? Nope, sometimes they shoot in triple coverage and from 30 feet out. Bundy's problem is he is too unselfish, trying to make the extra pass to get someone else involved when he should do like everyone else and take it to the rim. He played a **** of a game the other night, everyone has said so, even the people I sat next to from JTown agreed. The only time he struggled was during the last 3 minutes of the game when he got no help bringing the ball up the floor and the Tigers went from "Team" to "ME"

That is true. Thanks for the support.

Bundy can't stand pressure. He tries to dribble between 2 defenders, he throws it all over the place, and he'll try to take it to the hole and get charges called on him.

When he plays under control, which is rare, he doesn't turn it over, but he also doesn't make what some people call spectacular plays. Do you want spectacular plays and then 6 bonehead plays or would you rather have unspactacular play but a 1-5 turnover to assist ratio??????

I'm all for Paintsville and want them to win it all, but let's be realistic, Bundy can't be spectacular and not turn it over.

Have you ever watched PHS and thought, "Dang, Bundy, that was stupid." If you say no, then you're either biased or don't know basketball.

Yeah, I know, you can say that about any player. But, dang, when you watch PHS, you'll say that about Bundy 5-6 times a game.

Against J-town, he played GOOD for 3 quarters and then blew up in the 4th under pressure.

Come on Bundy, settle down. You can be very good or very bad. For the sake of PHS, BMR, and EKY, settle down and be very good and lead the Tigers onto Saturday.
