Where is Slone going to college?

Mr.Kimball Wrote:[quote=transplanttiger]Do you realize the talent level it takes to play at the likes of Georgetown, Pikeville, Cumberlands, or Lindsey Wilson? You have to be a heck of a player just to go there and get PT. To me it would be quite an honor to actually get to play at one of those places. Apparently most on here highly underestimate the challange that lies in playing at those schools. Ask Jamie McCarty how hard it is to play even at NAIA DII Berea. He has barely even gotten to see the floor this season. I think they are both fairly comperable in talent.

Yes I do realize the talent it would take to make/play for a team such as Pikeville or Georgetown. But remember a lot of the guys on those rosters have flunked out of DI, left DI, or didn't academically quality for DI. And the reason McCarty probably ain't gettin much PT at Berea is because of defense. He was a heck of an offensive player at JCHS, but D was lacking. He couldn't guard Lando with a pistol and 2 Dobermans!

**** don't act like Slone plays defense either because his career D at PHS has been non-existant. Yes, McCarty never played defense but the only time Slone ever plays defense is when he is guarding some teams third or fourth best player who can't walk or chew bubble gum at the same time.. Just to clarify my claim here is a question you should ask yourself, could Slone guard a type of player such as Rameal Bradley, Joe Crawford, or even a player in the past like Patrick Sparks? Because by saying he is a D-1 player these are the types of players you are throwing him into and those players right there are very sub-par college players. But don't you think these players could guard him?

I hardly think Bradley or Crawford are sub-par D1 players. They both are averaging nearly 20 points a game in one of the hardest conferences in the nation. That's hardly sub-par. Pat Sparks, yea he's sub-par.

Berea does not get the D1 transfers that the D1 NAIA schools get. They are NAIA DII and they are much the same as Alice Lloyd in that respect. Your right McCarty never played a lick of defense, but I find it humorous that you could criticize one and not the other. Defensively they both stunk their whole high school careers. I think I remember McCarty shutting Landon down a couple of years ago , when they beat Paintsville at Paintsville when he decided he wanted to put out the effort to do so. So dont go there on that one. The difference in the two is that McCarty was just plain too honery to play defense, but athletically very capable, while Slone is just not athletic enough to play it. The fact is McCarty is far superior athleticly to Slone, and as far as the offensive capabilities , I wouldn't give you a nickle for the difference. Neither can play at the level some of you all are suggesting. We heard the same old thing about McCarty for 4 long years too. He was deemed D1 since he was in 8th grade, by all of the expert analyists on here. See where he landed and see the PT he gets.

Yeah, I like what another poster pointed out, I would love to see Crawford or Bradley guard Slone, and in turn see Slone attempt to guard either of the other two, or a Chris Lofton, or an OJ Mayo, or a Jai Lucas. Rolleyes

In reality Sparks was not even sub-par. Very unpopular however.

They are two of the worst guards that have played for UK in the past 10 years. Anyways, that isn't he argument. Do you think he could score or defend against either of those players?

No I don't. Nobody said he was going to Kentucky and be a starter next year. It will take years before he would get playing time, but he has more ability than some of those on the bench right now.

Well then why would UK waste a team spot for someone who cannot contribute right away for them. UK recruits players that can come into their program and make a difference right away, not ones that they have to stroke along throughout their career. You might say they did this with Jared Carter, but Carter is 7-3 and had a chance to have a tremendous upside. I don't see Slone having this.

They did the same thing with Tackett. You can't even tell me that those guys that don't even break 6 feet at the end of the uk bench that has only been in a couple time this year are anywhere better than Landon. You think they honestly think Euton is going to come in and contribute his freshman year?

Euton is Tubby's doing. But he has a better chance of it. Tackett was a nationally recognized played in some rankings. He had all kinds of D-1 schools after him, where did he originally commit to before UK? I think it was an ACC school.
I think that it is a tribute to Landon to have a thread in his name that generates 100 posts! Nice to know that so many people out there care!Big Grin

I think that Euton is a Gillispie thang.

Tackett commited to Clemson first.

I will say this about Tackett. I had the opportunity, in I think around 2000, to watch a full UK practice. In that practice Tackett was the most dominate player on the floor.( For that one day I guess anyways). He hit every shot from every where on the floor. Nobody could stop him. Hard to figure out why he could never hit a shot in a game though. Bottom line, to compare Slone with an athletic Tackett is ridiculous.

Well first off I don't appreciate you calling my post rediculus. I think it is a very reasonable comparison. You never know what level Landon can compete on until you put him in that situation and let him see what he can do. He's a great competitor just like Tackett was and just as good a shooter. However, regardless of our disagreement on that issue, I have never once disrespected by saying anything you say is rediculus. In fact there are alot of times where I have took up for you and backed you on alot of threads. I wish you would show a little bit of respect to people who show it to you!

He had originally committed to Clemson, prior to going to UK.

If you really believ that then by god you obviously haven't cpmpared the current UK roster with the stats on how many guys have got playing time this year. We have about 5 fellows on that team that could score enoughin four years to add up to Rex Chapman's jersey number. Recruiting freshman to start freshman is clearly a position that Kentucky is NOT in at this time, or has been in this entire year.

I thought that the idea was to get better recruits than what you currently have. To say that someone is just as good as what is already there to justify their recruitment is not exactly taking the program to the next level, is it? Sounds counterproductive to me.
I heard UNC
I heard ALC Smile
If they hadnt changed the rules id say he would have been declaring for the NBA draft since Clark Stepp is supposively walking on at UK. Smile Smile Smile

I think you are off on two of the worst guards in the past 10 years, I think Saul Smith holds that spot.

I agree definetly saul and Sparks are the worst. I wish Travis Ford still had eligibility!

You are insane if you saul is better than Sparks. Sparks was probablley better than Crawford.
Slone can't play at UK, get it through your head. Yes Clark Stepp is walkin on but he will be like Mark Krebs or Dustin Mills if that was his name, just sittin on bench get maybe a 15 second play in a game.

Joe and Ramel aren't the worst guards in the last 10 years, Joe was a McDonalds All American and a 5 Star and coincidentally ranked 23 all time in scoring, **** he must not be that good is he! Ramel has began to break through and is on the 1 Team All Sec in the best conference in america and on the All Defensive team.

Back To Landon, the kid is good don't get me wrong, like someone said his D is nonexistant, yea he can shoot but so can alot of people but he isn't going to a Top D1 school so face it, he is better off at a low D1 or NAIA. I personally would love him to go to WKU, would be a great fit talent wise. Though whatever he does I wish him best of luck.

Crawford was 2nd team SEC this year and pretty sure Sparks never came close to that.
Id say UK lol
