Where is Slone going to college?

RavenBoy Wrote:If they dont deserve it they should play better. Also they knew when they came to UK they would get judged just like the coach. You also gotta remember this is UK, not EKU.

So if one of the local guys here in Eastern Ky went to UK and got treated that way you wouldn't take up for them and be upset that the way they were being talked about even if you didn't know the circumstances, and believe me I'm sure there are alot of things that go on behind the scenes that we are not privy to. How long ago were people giving Joe Crawford down the road? Circumstances change from day to day in college basketball. Lot of playing time depends on how well you did in practice.

Those guys do represent the University of Kentucky and have had some hurdles such as Carter's surgery on his shoulder twice. I think putting down or bashing, should carry over to more than just the players locally, these guys did get to UK and that is a dream for a lot of kids. They don't deserve being belittled either.

We all have different opinions on whether they deserve it or not.

High school/ Jr. High kids should not be belittled because they are playing for the fun of it.

UK has given the above mentioned players scholarships to play. For the most part, UK fans are unsatisfied with the level of their play and feel they do not deserve that scholarship when there were others more deserving or that developed better. Especially Carter who was just another one of Tubby's "projects." (but hindsight is 20/20)

College players are also legal-aged adults, while most high school players are still underage.

This reminds me of the video below:

Not around here are they mostly overage that play sports, some of them are getting pretty close to some of those players on the Kentucky benches, or may be knocking on the door. I believe the rule says that you can play high school ball as long as you turn 19 before school starts of I believe your senior year. I'd really like to know the ages of some of the players around here who will be 20 before they graduate high school, and will be way past the adult age of 18.

One last thought, Tubby had alway caught slack for not picking Chris Lofton and more players that were from Kentucky. When he gave a scholarship to Jared Carter he was not a "pet project". He had North Carolina wanting him and a long list of other schools and this is the reason. He could not in any way have know the injuries he would have sustained. http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospe..._key=30500
So Tubby had all the promise for a big guy with a big body, not another Allyne, but like I said no one can fortell the injuries.

After bringing in Obrzut and Alleyne, it sure made it look like Carter was another one of these 7-footer projects.

I've never been impressed by any of Carter's performances so who knows if he would be better or not without the injuries. The problem is he did get injured so we will never know.

Tubby will forever get slack about Lofton, recruiting Carter in no way cancelled out that mistake. It was probably what got Tubby packing to Minnesota in the end.

But we need to get back on topic.

This is about Slone.

With all the teams on that list who recruited carter, you sure don't see Duke anywhere do ya, nope, they knew from the beginning he wouldn't pan into anything, because any big recruit UNC is after, so is Duke.

If a local guy went to UK and stunk it up, I would talk crap about him just like Porter and Coury. Ill tell ya right now, I still dont like Crawford. Yea he scored 35 points and have helped us alot this year but hes not a team player.

Good luck Mr. Slone at whatever school you chose to play at. As I have said before I am behind ANY kid from the moutains playing D1

He's more of a team player this year than he ever has been. If my team sucked as bad as his does I would be taking alot more shots as well. I don't blame him a bit. I don't know where this team would be if we didn't have him and Bradley?

i bet he ends up at EKU

I could see Billy G getting 1 Eastern KY guy every year but I dont know about 2.

You can play as long as you do NOT turn 19 before the start of your senior year. If anyone playing now turns 20 before they gradute...well there isn't any, so there's now reason to even comment on it.

The deadline for the birthday rule is August 1st...There is quite a few 17yr. old soph's in the 15th Region im sure, the ones i know about is basically everyone in the Valley Sophomore class...I think they may have some 18yr. old Juniors as well...and I think Justice is a 19yr. old senior...
#45
Don't start the Valley crap, all win be legal age to play, and Justice turned 19 in Nov of this year.

Not starting anything man...Its no secret about the age thing...Yes, their all legal...I didnt say they had to sit out their senior year...It's been that way for quite some time at Valley...More recently...Kiser, Friend, Tackett, and all the boys that plays now...No Biggie, just stating the obvious:thumpsup:

I thought this thread was about where Landon is going to go to college which will make about the 35th thread probably. As of now, Landon is a Paintsville Tiger and that's all that matters....

transplanttiger Wrote:I read in a previous post that JBS's Stepp is going to walk on at UK if so, that must mean that Landon Slone the fantastic guard of the Paintsville Tigers will get a scholarship there. Landon to UK with a full ride!

Why are you guys even arguing about this again? Landon was quoted in an Ashland Daily Independent article about 2 weeks ago saying himself that he DID NOT think he could play at that level. Yet here we have the 99th thread since that time with this same worn out conversation.

I think a place like Western would be a nice fit for Slone! Best of Luck wherever you choose to go Landon@

Arkansas (because of the John Pelphrey connection) is the one school in particular that Slone mentioned that he didn't feel as if he could play at. Perhaps you as well as many others should just read the article.

Just to let you know it is impossible to be 20 during your senior year because according to KHSAA rules you cant be 19 before Aug 1st of your senior year and be eligible to play. August 1st is the magic date that alot of people revolve their lives around....

There has been the exact same atricle in the Ashalnd Daily, Lex Hearld, and Courier Journal about how he hasn't been getting any offers. Why is same articlei in all three of the papers?

The Ashland Daily did not say a word about him not getting any offers. It was written by Melissa Robinson, a former writer from the Paintsville Herald and she offered direct quotes from Slone. The only thing I know of written in the Lexington Herald was a note in Mike Fields column and he used quotes from Bill Mike Runyon. So I dont know where you are coming up with the exact same article comment. I however did not read anything from the Courier-Journal.

The initial conversation some of us were discussing is if Landon or any other Eastern Ky player were getting dissed like some of the Uk players they would be taken up for, and they said that the ones that have a scholarship were men over the age of 18 or more and should be put down if they weren't doing their job. I said their were things going on behind the scenes that we weren't aware of and they shouldn't be trashed or belittled either. These guys have feelings to and are not much older than these seniors out of high school. And as we have just proven alot of them are right at that a age or close to be 20 as a freshman because of getting held back to play ball. Not everyone playing at UK did that and are actually the age according to the grade they are in college. I know that at Virgie some of the players were driving to school while in junior high. If you ask me, that makes them a little more mature to take the scolding and trashing they would take if they hit a D1 college. So if Landon goes to UK I hope he has much success and does well or other wise he will get the wrath of UK fans and I would hate to see that happen.

If any player was driving to school while in Jr High, then that would make it impossible for them to play their senior year in high school. That would make them at least 16 and a half before they could legally obtain their driver's licence, (and only in 8th grade?) Probably not a valid point.

I think he should by pass college take the NBA to court to challenge there freshman rule. Then we can start a thread on who will get the rights in the lottery to draft him .

That's what I was told maybe they thought Virgie went through 9th grade like alot of middle schools do, where I went to school middle school was 7th, 8th, and 9th. I've been out of school 25 yrs and was the first group to come out of that school. It's still the same.
