I read in a previous post that JBS's Stepp is going to walk on at UK if so, that must mean that Landon Slone the fantastic guard of the Paintsville Tigers will get a scholarship there. Landon to UK with a full ride!

Rumor has it that he may go to UK, but I don't think he has made a decision yet.
03-08-2008, 12:56 AM
I hope that Landon does well and I am sure he will be fine but I dont think he will get a free ride to UK...He will get somewhere good though. I wish him the best...

I'm hearing Marshall.

As in another post I have made, how can we not want kids from the moutains to make a team. Why do we have to chose between either. Do you not want to see them play at the next level. Please put aside team prefernces and think in terms of moutain players. I want to see 20 kids from the moutains plays at the next level, why do we have to pick? When Farmer and the rest brought back UK to a national level, did it not make you proud to know that they came from Ky. Reasons like this I think have made us lose great players in the past and as bad as i hate to say it, I think it will in the future. If you watch, paid attention, you know that it means more to a ky kid to play for UK and if they come from the moutains then that just looks good on us so why put a player down.

Marshall would probably be a better fit for him. Wish him the best where ever he decides.
03-08-2008, 01:39 AM
I've heard marshall as well, but I also know that he loves the thought of UK. He knows alot of money won't be thrown his way at UK, but just the simple fact of playing there is every eastern kentucky player's dream from the time they are little kids.
03-08-2008, 02:20 AM
where does his have offers from as of right now? i know g-town has contacted him but who else has offered?
03-08-2008, 02:39 AM
I doubt very seriously UK is looking at anyone from E.KY right now. The few players, like Farmer, that went to UK were for reasons other than the "wow" this is a great player and we must have him. Alot of political pressure at the time. Our boys aren't big enough or fast enough on a constant basis for UK or UofL to take. Yes, every 20 yrs or so a player surfaces and goes D-1 in basketball. We just don't have the population here and we get blinded easily watching our boys play each other.

It all comes down to athletic ability....is he athletic enough to play in the SEC....is he athletic enough to guard a Chris Lofton or Ramar Smith type?? Can he beat the Arkansas guards off the dribble? Could he guard Crawford?? Can he beat Bradley?? If we answer those honestly and objectively we all know the answers..he is a GREAT HS player and a GREAT young man....but you are stepping into a whole new world when talking about being able to play on that level...comes down to size, athleticism, strength and quickness.
03-08-2008, 10:59 AM
Landon can play anywhere! The question is how much PT he wants! He walks on and goes to UK and I would say he wouldn't see much PT until his Junior year at least. He goes to Marshall and he would get more sooner. He goes to an NAIA school and he would get a lot. So it really just depends on what he wants out of it!! It doesn't matter what we think! I personally wouldn't mind sitting on UK's bench. But everyone is different!
Whatever he does, I wish him the best because I know how much he loves basketball.

No but I'm pretty sure he already has a full ride academically to UK.

Can we possibly have one mature and intelligent discussion when it comes to talking about area players?
Some people need to grow up and understand what is appropriate to post.
Keep this one clean or it will be closed.

I understand what you are saying about he probably doesnt have the athletic ability to play at UK but do you think Coury, Porter, or Carter are athletic and talented? Slone and Stepp would be great walk ons at UK. Who knows one of them may end up being the next Cameron Mills or Ravi Moss.
03-08-2008, 01:17 PM
What Im saying is if Stepp gets a walk on offer at UK then Im sure Slone should get the same or better offer. Ive seen them both play alot and up close. Slone is the better of the 2 right now in my opinion. But Im not sure they either could challenge a healthy Jody Meeks for playing time next season. I didnt start this thread to get it closed so lets just discuss it, not fight about it okay.

Coury, Porter and Carter are all kids who could have gone somewhere mid or low major and been successful....if they play major minutes then UK is in trouble in the SEC...we all know that...not saying Slone or Stepp wouldn't be good walk-ons...wasn't referring to them being walk ons...was referring to the post about Slone getting a basketball scholarship...as far as him playing "anywhere" ...sorry, but that's not how it works...he can't call up a school and say he is coming there to play...there has to be some interest from the school first..also...playing and being on the team are two different animals...I wish him well wherever he goes...he is a good player and an even better kid...just giving some objective observations to this discussion..

You are so right, If Stepp is a walk on, Landon is at least getting half his college paid for.

Why is everyone comparing Stepp and Slone on here. If Billy G is smart he would get them both to keep Kentucky people happy.
03-08-2008, 03:27 PM
I personally believe he is Marshall bound when it's all said and done. If he could play above the rim then I say UK gives him a scholarship but I think Marshall would be the best fit for him. If he did go to UK playing time would be very limited. JMO.
03-08-2008, 03:41 PM
Id say if he does to UK he will walk on. How many scholarships does UK have? like 2 or 3. You know they will give those to some big guys.

So has Marshall offered him?

I am not nor have I ever put Slone down for anything, I know hes a good player and can play at the next level, and if thats at UK then so be it, it would be great to see. The point is, UK and coach numbnuts wont play him when he does go there if he goes at all. It would be best for him to go somewhere where he could play and play alot and be a factor in a teams success. I would rather see him go to a place like Marshall or another mid major school that could possibly play against UK that way he could show UK what they would be missing out on. I have never cared about Landon beating my team in high school because my team sucks and will always suck and I actually liked when he helped beat them. Im not one of those immature people that hold grudges against certain players just because they made it big or beat my team or whatever, I could care less. All I am saying is that he should go somewhere where he would actually get to play and not have to sit on the bench and watch. I know Landon could produce immediately for any team he plays for and I hope to see him do it. Oh and I have nothing against mountain players making it at the next level and succeeding, I just dont think most of them would make it at a big time university like a UK, UL, UNC and so on and so forth.

Your "coach numbnuts" has more conference wins than Tubby did last year.
BCG: 11-4 in the SEC
Tubby (last year): 9-7 in the SEC
BCG is smarter than you give him credit for and he would play who it takes to win, whether that be Slone or not.

I realized that most bashing of players is quickly taken care of when the player is from these schools locally, but I don't think that bashing Coury, Porter, or Carter, is acceptable either. Those guys do represent the University of Kentucky and have had some hurdles such as Carter's surgery on his shoulder twice. I think putting down or bashing, should carry over to more than just the players locally, these guys did get to UK and that is a dream for a lot of kids. They don't deserve being belittled either.

You also gotta remember this is UK, not EKU.

Wow that would be great. It would give the coaches even more of a reason to look at him because having him on the team would be a no risk situation. If he contributes, you got a steal, if he doesn't, you didn't waste a basketball scholarship. Ravi Moss is a great example of how that can work out in a positive way.

To be honest with ya I'm not really sure. I have just heard all the rumors flying around that this is more than likely where he will end up at. However, I would love to see him in a UK uniform.
