We have right at 40 young men coming to weight lifting on avg. There are 5 or 6 of them that are not there everyday. They have to be dedicated like the rest of them are, that come everyday. The 5 or 6 are letting down their teamates. We have 7 to 10 more young men that are training in other sports. Also, of all the young men that lift, 3 or 4 of them are currently in the 7th grade. If they stick with it, we should have a good turn out this fall. Keep working fellers!:wieghts:

Yea, I had my first experience with the lifting today. It hwas pretty tough!! But it will help us get stronger. There was quite a few of people there as well.

I should add to this....I think there is a huge attitude difference in many of the boys, tho. Most of them are doing great with the lifting and getting ready. Breathitts not the one you should be worried about. Harlan Co. will be the team to beat this year. But what do I know, Powell Co. gonna win 9 games this year just like last. thats why theres 8 pages of posts. WAKE_UP!!!!!!!!!

Powell has got to stop other teams from running down their throat. Teams that hurt Powell ran the ball all over them. Powell stops the run they can win a couple more games this year. Jesse Rose was one of the state's leaders in tackles and if Powell gets better on defense a 6 win season is very possible.

Estill went from 0-10 to 9-3 in 4 years. Powell can do the same with the young talent they have coming up. Estill was young when they went 0-10. Every year they got better. They did not beat or come close to beating a team who was average. Not a team they played other than Breathitt had a winning record. Estill also went from 8-3 to 3-7 in one year losing very few players and returning most of them. They beat Powell I think 77-6 and the next year Powell beat them. So yes Powell can have a winning record, lower your competition, play teams who haven't won in several years, and be happy not making the playoffs or getting beat out very quick if you do. When Estill went from 8-3 to 3-7 they lost about half of their starters (returned about 4 or 5 starters on offense), and the ones they lost were most of the reason for an 8-3 record. Then the 3-7 year they opened against Belfry, and later had Johnson Central, along with a tough district of Russell, Fleming, and East Carter. Yes they were down some key players, but, had a pretty rough schedule as well. The 0-10 year they had to rely on young players at nearly every position with only 2 starters returning on offense, and 3-4 on defense. And as FNL already mentioned going from 0-10 to 9-3 is direct result of switching districts and playing a much easier schedule.

Thank you for seeing this. They had a much more respectable team, even though they didn't win them all at 3-7, they were in every game except a couple and played quality opponents, that is what makes you better IMO. Why did they drop the quality teams?? I think you know the answer. If the schedule is the same next year, they should be 9-1, but history has shown, when they have a big win season, the next year is not so good. As for Powell, who knows. As one person mentioned, that is why there is always 8 pages of comments.
