Johnson Central Golden Eagles 2008
#31
Grimm came up as a offensive dagger after Blume graduated. Is there another Blume or Grimm awiting the call for next season? I am sure they are with the great success the middle school team has had I just didn't know who to watch for.

Dennis Dillon, if he does not play qb.

Gator Wrote:Jim Matney's 2009 version should again be a very good football team, different from the teams over the last couple of years built with a speed back, but still very good.
They have 2 options at QB with Dennis Dillion(SR) and JK Hall(SO), both good runners. In the backfield they have two powerful backs in 3 year starter Chase Richardson(SR) and Nathan Dillon(JR) and several fighting for other spot. Throw in 3 year starter Ian Welch(SR) at end and the biggest line Matney has had at Central in Casey Brown(SR),John Corey Little(SR),Josh Lackey(JR),Ryan Harlow(JR), and quick guard Travis Scott(SR) and Central should be able to run the ball down opponents throats.Plenty of talent with experience coming back to help on both sides of the ball like LB Tanner Bratton,Brady Hamilton,Blake Castle,Alex Kiel and many JV players ready to step in.
As for last years team JK Ratliff,Dials,Grimm will be tough to replace but Trey Belhasen at DB flew under the radar screen making big plays every game and having a nose for the ball may be the toughest to replace!
As for comparing teams year to year it really is ridiculous, the 2007 team in 5A played one of the toughest schedules in school history and went 10-3 demolishing State Champion Louisville Central and the 2006 team 13-1 in 3A and never tested till week 12. My point is the 07 and 08 team will soon be forgotten by the people that get on here and know nothing about football and the 2009 team that will probably drop back to 4A will be the next great JC team.

Will Harlow and Brown be eligible?

Yup.

My understanding was that Wheelersburg was a one year deal? I believe Lou. Central was a one year deal as well.
#36
I believe, correct me if i'm wrong, that Wheelersburg was part of a 2 year deal. Central was just a filler on the schedule due to no one in the area wanting to play JC.

I look forward to seeing what the Dillons can do next year (I only hope Dennis's shoulder allows him to compete to the best of his ability!) I'm also anxious to see what Richardson and Bratton and Hall can do given a chance to shine. And I think, from all reports, Casey Brown may make a huge splash as well.

There's no shortage of talent in Johnson County. Good luck Eagles!

Harlow should be the other back. I was impressed with him this year when he played in the backfield.

I too hope to see great things happen again for JC football. Matney seems to bring out the best in the guys. Great place to watch football too.
#40
Rumor says a SC's starter is suppose to be moving to eagleville...is this true?
#41
I'm sure JC will be a contender in 5A again in 2008! They are really building a solid program!
#42
Will Matney change offensive and defensive schemes to fit changing talent or is he the kind of coach that sticks with his system and molds his players into it?

His basic scheme will always be a wishbone with the veer being his bread and butter. He has proven since he's been at JC that he will adapt his system to his talent. Take his first year to last. He almost never threw the ball in 2004 and 2005. As we developed a little passing game with Ratliff who had about 1500 yards passing this year he was much more likely to throw the ball.

uhm is their an SC starter transferring???

DreamCatcher Wrote:uhm is their an SC starter transferring???

Please ignore this persons statement. There is a RUMOR every year about some SC player coming. But it don't happen. Hager is a great coach, and has a great program! Why would anyone leave except a complainer of not playing? U must know, but wont say. How true could it be?
I just wish the 2 schools could play each other. 2 good programs doin battle. YESSS:thumpsup:

As I am quite anxious for the Eagles upcoming season, I know that the lack of lineman will be the least of their worries, as they have many young lineman that will return this season with much experience. The interesting thing is that a friend of mine has a boy returning (after having to drop out for family issues last season) known as Jeff Wolford, coming in at 6'2 330 pounds. Talking with his father, I have learned that his son persuaded his friend to also join this year, a 340 pound 6'3 Bucky Jones.

Hopefully they can add to the soon-to-be strong Eagle line, and after trying to convince them to come to Sheldon Clark, I will see how well they do in the upcoming Spring Game. If all happens as they predict, the eagles will be a force to be messed with. Ian Welch, Nathan Dillon, Chase Richardson, and Casey brown also offer more versatility to the team this year, and im glad my son, who plays for Cardinal Varsity football, does not have to worry about Johnson Central.

Why isn't much being said about JC?
#49
You never know how JC will end up. They could have 5 or 6 kids move into homes owned by some coaches. Once recruiting season ends we will see how the Eagles are looking.
#50
Not after what happend last season.

What are you hoping to achieve by that statement?

A totally bush league comment.

Wow!!!!

Now that is a slap in the face. Pretty low-life comment. No doubt funny and well deserved but still a little below the belt. I know Central deserves to be rode about this a little since they were caught with their hand in the cookie jar, but the spelling it out like that is rough.

I realize he was kidding n hoping, but I'm trying to figure out his statement. This thread is about how JC will be next year, and this comment doesn't fit that i could find.

I must be on drugs! Someone spiked my drink:beerwez:
