Any predictions?

Imo...
Owsley is over rated.. in district and in region...
Yes, they have talent and a good team...but they shouldnt be ranked over Powell or even reigning District Champs, Estill Co.
I believe that when season starts rankings will change and the Owls will be up for a surprise.
Good luck to all teams!!!! :wieghts:

Owsley is not overrated. Powell will more than likely be the team to beat in the 56th this year.
1-Powell
2-Owsley
3-Estill
4-lee

I think Owsley plays @ Estill tonight. That game should be a good one, and give some indication of the strenghth of both. Owsley returns 4 starters, plus some depth form some young players. Estill is the defending district champs.

Good win for the Lady Owls!
Owsley didn't play their best ball last night. Just about the whole team was in foul trouble at half time. Two players fouled out and, one starter had three, and one off the bench had four. Shots didn't fall too good for either team.
I beleive the refs were lettin' it get out of hand also. Both teams played phisical and showed a lot of heart.
I beleive the Score at the half was Estill 3 and Owsley 21. Owsley went score-less in the 3rd and had to fight to pull out a win. Estill showed alot of heart, and wanted the win.
I heard alot of comments about How tired they looked, and to me that's could have been a factor.
I beleive if you get Owsley rested up and healthy, they will be NO ONE that can play with them on any given night.
Let's Go Lady Owls!!!!!!!!!!!

What happened to Estill's returning players? Brandenburg? Rader? Cole? I didn't see any of their names in the box score.

brandenburg - out until released from her recent knee surgery. the word is that she should be back the beginning of the year.
rader - a very gifted student went on with her education & is attending Western University as a Freshman.
cole - isnt playing this season due to back problems.

I thought Rader was only going to be a Junior? Is it some kind of special program or something that has allowed her to be at WKU and be a first year college student?

I don't think Lee should be thrown out of the mix in the 56th district. Sure they didn't have a great season last year, in fact not even close to good, but they return all starters with 5 seniors and a JV team that has had alot of Varsity time.
Plus, they recently beat Estill in Irivine to start off the season.
I think all in all the 56th will be one to watch this year.

Last Night Owsley defeat Lee in Booneville, and they've also defeated the Lady Engineers. IS that overatted? Huh?.. they are now 2-0 in District play. If the beat powell, are they still gonna be overrated? Huh?
12-08-2007, 11:55 PM
1.Powell
2.Owsely
3.Estill
4.Lee
Powell has a good team this year and is strong inside with Kendra McFarland. Good luck the rest of the season Lady Pirates!!!

ballgurl00 Wrote:Well if you think about it didnt estill loose like almost all 5 starters and lee you call that a big win! HAHAHey, from what I could tell, Lee County isn't all that bad this year. Shoot, they didn't loose anyone and they couldn't get any worse from last year. Not to be taken up for Lee by no means, but ya'll need to remember, last year was their rebuilding year, and this year they will be out for blood. If anyone was at the Owsley and Lee game the other night, you could've seen that.

Pickin n Grinnin is right ballgurl00!!! Lee County didn't loose anyone from last years team and have improved tremendously. I suspect that the Lady Kats will suprise several teams this year, with unexpected size and talent. Again, I agree with Pickin n Grinnin, this was a great district win for Owsley and was not, by any means a small feat. Congrats to the Lady Owls for this tremendous win and a great start to the 07-08 season.

We will see how good Owsley is Friday night.

From watching the game against Owsley and Estill... I didnt see nothing outstanding on either team.... If owsley is pumped after beating two of the under ranked teams in the district ... congrats .. if you can pull off the win against Powell... then you can be proud.. and NO... you wont be overrated.... but until then.... irateSho

After looking at all these post where are the Bluegrass teams??? Seems that all are from the 15th or 16th region....

Estill may've lost their starters, but I do believe that they were down by atleast 18 points at half time, Owsley just had a dead 3rd quarter, but still pulled it out.
& Lee didn't lose anyone from their team and seemed to have improved, and they lost by 14 to the Lady Owls.
If Owsley can come in with their heads high and are ready to play, I can say that Powell will have a run for their money. Let's hope for a good game, with good calls, and sportsmanship.
Go Lady Owls! :letsparty

My bad, they lost by 19 to the Lady Owls.

IMO Estill, being so young but playing so hard, will get counted out early, improve a lot moving toward February, get a player or two back before districts, then play angry after being downgraded and forgotten...
12-10-2007, 07:58 PM
I dont see any of those teams being a threat for the region or the state championship.....

Dawgfan11th Wrote:I dont see any of those teams being a threat for the region or the state championship.....The 56th has never won the region. Maybe runner-up a couple of times. I doubt it will be any different this year. The region will be between Breathitt, Perry, and maybe Knott. All in all, the 14th is fairly weak this year when compared to other regions.
12-10-2007, 08:58 PM
What about JBS, they are clearly the best team in the region right now?

IMO noone is giving powell county the respect they diserve. this is fine with me, because i know they will soon earn it. they are going to be a serious competitor in the 14 region tourny... watch and see. you cant under estimate anyone when it comes down to this, the best coumes out n teams come tournament time... its what really matters. IMO the title of district champoins belngs to powell co and they even have a great shot at region.

Was it Aerosmith that said, "Dream on...."

[B]I agree.
Powell's confidence seems to be sky high in these forums, maybe they are getting too big for the britches? If they can back it up Friday night at Owsley, then my opinion might change, until then I think they might want to bring it down a notch and not overlook any teams in the 56th.
