The Future of Pikeville Football
#1
Now that Pikeville has hired their head coach what is the potential of this program in the upcoming years? Coach Jackson from what I have read seems to be a great coach on and off the field. Pikeville really exceeded my expectations with this hire, and I really believe they have found the coach that can bring back the program to being one of the true powerhouses in Eastern Kentucky and Class A football. Is the talent in place for Coach Jackson to work with that can have a shot at a state championship. I firmly believe he will build the program back up to have a realistic shot at a state championship, but every great coach needs sometalent to work with. I don't expect a state championship next season or the next but I believe we can be competitive on the state level once again in the playoffs. I believe Coach Jackson has two potential stars in the Honaker Twins, but what else does he have to work with in the upcoming classes? I am really excited about this hire and anxious to see what Coach Jackson will do with the Pikeville program. The hiring of Coach Jackson defintely takes away the sting of Coach Mac leaving IMO, and I think the program is better off with him at the helm. The boys need to listen to him and works their butts off in the wirghtroom and get ready to bust it once practice starts. With community and school support, which I firmly believe he will get, I believe great things are going to happen at Pikeville High School in the future.

Anyone heard of newcomers to the Pikeville program???
#3
What do you mean by that spxdad?
#4
Yes there are newcomers that is coming with Jackson his nephew that will be a sophmore and has great speed he runs a 4.5 from what i have heard. I think the future of the PANTHERS is goiing to be great especially the next three years alot of talent.
#5
His nephew is a definite thing yet. He is considering coming here from where was it Corbin? It would be a great addition to the Panthers but why would you live Corbin for Pikeville?
#6
Yes he was at Corbin for the Football year, but he had already switched to Lynn camp this year and there in Class A, so why not go to a team that is the same Class and has alot of talent and bring your talent also, and maybe win a State Championship.
#7
Any rumors of local players moving to Pikeville?
#8
Yes there has been many of rumors of people coming to Pikeville about the Harmon boy from Virgie alot of talent from this kid but since Howard got the Head Coaching job at Shelby Valley it is going to be very likely that he will be an addition to Pikeville next year.
#9
I previously meant to say it wasnt a definite thing my bad. Its hard to say if he will come or not...but he will be welcomed if he comes.

I still dont understand why Harmon would come because I know he is a running back and the Honaker twins will both be ahead of him till he is a senior. If he goes to Valley though, he will get alot more playing time.
#10
he will go to valley, he loves basketball just as much as football and he just won a state championship with his basketball team, im sure he will want to stick with them.
#11
we will just have to wait and see...none of us no for sure, so lets just wait on his decision be4 we say anything is final

What makes you think the Honakers will play in front of him? I hear he is pretty good and has a much better work ethic than the Honakers.
Besides who knows where they will be in a couple of years, it's not like they grew up in Pikeville and have been totally loyal.
#13
I don't really see where Pikeville has so much young talent. The Honakers are good, but not star quality. There's a coupe of decent sophomores, but after that the underclasses at Pikeville is weak, and from watching the grade school, not much coming up from there either. They will be good this year, but in that region who wouldn't be..After that it will be the Honaker show, if they don't go somewhere else. Don't be surprised if they show up wearing valleycolors on the field next year. HH works in mysterious ways, you Pikeville folk should know that. HH will be BH's recruiting coordinator.

What makes me think that is they are overall more athletic and talented than Harmon. If they feel threatened, they will pick up their slack and start working harder. They wont want to be behind a younger player.

Honakers at Valley? haha dont make me laugh. Thats not going to happen.

i have also heard that anybody not going to valley from virgie will be going to pcc.

I am sorry to burst your bubble but Pikeville players including the Honakers are NOT going to transfer to Valley or any other school in Pike County. It will take Ben a few years to build a nice program at SV and I promise you that he knows that. THe Honakers and every other young player at Pikeville will stay at Pikeville because they want to be part of the Pikeville football tradiation. The only way SV will get players from Pikeville is if the player(s) is orginally from the SV area. Players will come to Pikeville and Belfry because they want to be part of winning tradition. Ben will build the program up but the Honakers will/could be playing on the college level by the time they are a consistent winner. I wish SV nothing but the best now that Ben is coach, and I hope they win their disrtict and region every year and I think a few years down the road they will be competing for both. The main think SV needs to do is get the best players in the school to play football, sort of the same problem Pikeville faces on the basketball court. SV is not going to win a state title in basketball, but they can win one in football if the kids come out in large numbers and listen to Ben because he is a great coach and knows the game.

Exactly what Valley linemen do you see going to Pikeville, there aren't any, if even a few, in the feeder schools, so who do you think would leave the valley to wear maroon?
#21
there are always some to transfer...last season it was gillispie and beaver, and i am sure there will be some this season
#22
Yes, and as you see Beaver ended up back at Valley, and rumors are Gillespie is coming back too.

Who is Beaver and Gilliespie? I noticed you said BACK at Valley. I said Valley may get some transfers that are orgianlly from the SV area. Don't expect any kids that have grown up in Pikeville or the Honakers to transfer to SV.

Notice that Beaver moved back AFTER football season was over....and there are rumors of a bunch of stuff happeneing but rumors are rumors, and if gillespie does transfer back to Valley its probably because he wants to play under coach Howard thats all
but the point i was trying to get across was taht there are almost always ppl to transfer to Pikeville no matter where it be from and i was using two examples from Valley last season, even though some may not know who they are

Violence4: HAHA you need to learn your facts man The Honakers have had a rich tradtion in the Pikeville System the twins are not leaving i know this personally. From a very reliable source.
#26
Ok.....wait...Beaver went back after......gillespie is NOT going back to valley...trust me on that one..I really don't forsee him going back...and secondly.....You ask "why would some ne leave the 'valley' for the maroon?".....i will answer that question for you KYFOOTBALLFAN....Put simply....The maroon is ten times better than the Blue baby......That's why!

The kid that Pikeville is going to pick up, will help Pikeville out, but he doesn't run a 4.5, and he would have had a hard time starting at Lynn Camp this year, Lynn Camp returns 9 starters, most of which played two years ago when Lynn Camp won the region. Their was a good chance of him starting at Corbin, with their best back moving out of state. Also their will have to be a couple of things work out for him to be able to play, which shouldn't be a problem.

As mentioned...Beaver went back to Valley after football season so that he could graduate with his class that he came up with....but he was here for the Pikeville tradition!

i dont see what all the talk about the honakers and daniel harman is about because none of them will play muhc running back this year with robinson still there they might gte a few touches a game but besides that he will get them all
#30
I see them being played at other positions....WR...and possibily one of the Honakers going to TE...b/c the Panthers are losing both Parrish and Gibson from the TE position
