2008 Preseason All 15th Reigon Team
#1
Just a little something to see who you guys think can standout at their position this year in the 15th. Let see your Lineups!
#2
Grimm, Humphrey, VanHoose - Paintsville
Shepard, Cyrus, Hayes - Lawrence

Not sure on anyone else. A couple from JC but I can't remember their names.
#3
Daniel Harmon- Pikeville
#4
I guess that Travis Ison doesnt deserve to be on this list? I mean he did tie the region leader in homeruns with 4. He did make the 2006 57th District Tournament team and he did have a homerun, double, and 3 rbi's in that game.

So. I mean Kurt Gibson hit a game winning homerun in the World Series but that doesn't really make him a 1st ballot Hall of Famer. Ison could be on the all 15th team if he has a good year at the plate and in the field. Needs to cut down on K's.

I really dont know what Kurt Gibson has to do with Travis Ison.

It has to do with the fact of one game doesn't make a player. A consistant season makes a player.

I agree! A player who makes the routine plays day in and day out, and is consistant at the plate should be considered in the all 15th region team. The one game outstanding performance can only be considered in an all tournament team award, as the players are chose according to the top peformers in that tournament.

Thank you for sharing some common sense.

I dont understand what you two have against Travis? I guess you two are so much better than he is. I guess that you all are MLB Hall Famers then? The best that is ever lived. Why dont you all just teach teach him so of your skills then.

I have nothing against Travis at all. Don't really know him. I mean he seems like a pretty good kid.

Well maybe you might want to get to know someone before you start running off at the mouth and saying bad things. If you dont have anything nice to say...say nothing at all.

So you are saying I was running my mouth by saying he doesn't need to be on this team? Is that correct? Because I was just looking at my previous posts and I have said nothing bad about him as a person. All I said was he needs to get a little more consistant. That is just an opinion. I am more of the "show me type" insted of talking about it on the computer. I think everyone needs to quit wearing their feelings on here.

This thread is an opinion about a preseason all region team. People choose the players they think are worthy by last years performances. Some say he wasnt consistant enough at the plate last year, so if it was their list they wouldn't choose him.

Well it is nice to see that some one is smart enough to understand that the purpose of this post was to get different opinions on what people think and that not everyone thinks the same.

I just don't think he is a very good baseball player, has nothin to do with whether or not he is a good kid. Just because he has a good game or two doesn't mean he is one of the best in the region.

Personally, I think that Magoffin COunty High school has a player that is being left off the list. Shane Allen is a lefty pitcher, a dang good 1st baseman and an excelent hitter. He was on the 15th region junior team this past summer and threw a heck of a game in laurel County.
Also, Mike Montgomery may be an extremely effective player in the 15th this year. he has played fall ball all fall with the Lawerence County Bulldogs along with a few others from Magoffin, but from what I hear he has been playing some very good ball.

Are you saying that there is nobody in the whole county of Pike or Pikeville that cant make this team?

Umm I was trying to think of some players from that area but drew a blank. Maybe Ward and Huffman from Pikeville. Who are some other kids in that area?

I think the two that you mentioned as well as Daniel Harmon, and I think that McDonald will come along. Patrick Keene will be one of the regions best before it's all over. Tyler Dotson from Belfrey is getting several looks from colleges as well right now, he may very well lead the 15th in homers this coming year, while not playing on a cracker box field. He has more power than anyone in the region. Dillon Stiltner from Phelps is a heck of a pitcher. Just a few off the top of my head. Michael Conley from JC has to be on the list somewhere as well.
#24
I guess Travis Ison is a joke then if you think Mike Conley is better than he is. Travis tied the region lead in homeruns and you think that somebody who didnt even tie him is going to hit more than he did. This is a joke!!!!

I dont really know if you are talking to me or not. I assume that you are. If so, I never said one word about Travis Ison in any way, pro or con. Yeah I like Travis, so please dont come on to me in that manner. Also who said that Mike Conley was better than anybody else to begin with. Mike Conley will be one of the best pitchers in region next year in my opinion. Totally different type player than Ison, but we all know that pitching is the name of the game in baseball, so he has to be in the mix. And as far as power goes , I saw Conley hit one out of JC this season in practice in the power alley, so he does have some power as well. As far as Dotson, do you even have a clue as to who he is? If you did you would have seen some of the many monster shots he hit over the summer playing on his travel team. Answer one question . Did Ison hit any of his homers outside of Paintsville and Magoffin Co.'s field? I saw the one at Magoffin and while it was over the fence, it would not have been out at a field such as Pikeville, JC, Belfry, Shelby Valley, etc. By the way, I dont think they kept regional stats to begin with. You must be referring to the Big Sandy News stats for this local area.

You really don't need to bring someone down like that.

And 1911 The Maynard boy's name is Josh Maynard

It's Kirk, man. If you're going to use someone as well known as Kirk Gibson in an argument, at least spell his name right (or spell the right name). Smile

LOL, what's your deal? 4 HR's don't make you a great player or one of the best in the region. He probably led Paintsville in K's last year aside from Watkins.

If Kirk had been smart he'd stuck with football. He was an All-American WR at Michigan State and only played one year of college baseball. He was good enough though to get drafted in both sports, but he chose baseball as I'm sure everyone knows. The only thing he's known for is the World Series HR off Dennis Eckersley. I guess I would rather be known for that instead of having the term "pulling a Buckner" after me.

All i have to say about this is that a HR is a HR reguardless of where it hit at. It all goes in the stats as a HR and it is always gonna be viewed as a HR. Also, I played on many college fields that were the same size as Magoffins and Paintsvilles durring my time in the NAIA D1. Rather then bringing the kids down on here our job as little league coaches, high school coaches, and parents are to bring them up. With that, a HR is a HR reguardless of where it is. Also, a good hitting season last year means nothing this for this year. We will just have to let it play out and see who hits the most HRs, which means absolutely nothing if your team doesnt win.
