Congrats Russell.
#6
Congrats Russel sound like a good game, would love to have caught this one.
#7
Isn't this about the 3rd or 4th close game for Russell this season, i mean one that was decided in the last few minutes of the game.
#8
Russell was really off the mark tonite, alot of droped balls, and interceptions. Abrams 33 carries 204yds unofficially. I think the next time these 2 teams line up, Ill take Russell by 21 or more.

Only the second time I can recall. Simon Kenton and Mason.

Russell like I predicted earlier today was far superior to Mason Co when it comes to strength and physical play. Mason Co is athletic but they're not all that if you know what I mean.

Russell made some really silly mistakes, but they are just now begining to make good plays in the secondary on pass defense.
It seems to me like either Mason's passing game isn't that good or Simon Kenton's QB and recievers are incredible.
But that could be the difference between 6A and 3A competition. Maybe Mason was off tonight or Russell was on? I couldn't really tell.
Russell did do a good job on the OL DL making big plays on Defense when they needed them and the OL opened up some BIG HOLES to run through.
I can't understand why we're dropping footballs every time we get a chance.

And one more thing......................If you cant catch!

GET AWAY FROM THE BALL ON PUNT TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AND KICK OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE!!

Now Suck it up Devils and get ready to play Raceland. You are the 2007 Devils and not the 1977, 1978, 2005, 2006 or any other team.

YOU ARE THE 2007 RUSSELL RED DEVILS, GET IT GOING!! PLAY TIME IS OVER!

With as much hype as the Belfry vs SC game had, you'd think the score would have been more like this. Wish I'd been able to see it, I always love a good close game Smile

Russell's secondary just played much better. Tonight was mostly cover 2.

Simon Kenton's QB and recievers weren't as good as Mason's. Russell just played better defense.

That said this was without a doubt one of the sloppiest and poorly played games I have watched. Both teams played hard but neither really well IMO. Way to many silly penalties and careless turnovers. Fumbles and dropped passes nearly doomed Russell.

Both teams were very physical on defense. #60 for Mason was very impressive tonight. Jones, Rice, Smith and Foster all had big hits for Russell. The secondary played much better.

Drew Abrams was a workhorse. Really ran hard in the second half. Keep it up.

Tyler Jones made the play of the game on the two point conversion. It appeared that Mason was going to run a pick route to get the RB in the flat. Jones stuffed him in the backfield and did not let him release. Cox was forced to look for other options and the pass was incomplete over the middle. Was the 2pt conversion the right call? I think it was. It was just well defended.

For one player that I won't name. Keep your head up. Instead of trying to make the spectacular play just make the smart play and everything will be just fine. Your team needs you.

I really think Russell needs to get alot more snaps to Cordle and switch things up to give Jones a break get Cordle valuable experience.
If Russell can do this I really think they'll be better off in the long run. Cordle can get the job done at QB.
Jones is a monster no matter where he plays.

After seeing Breathitt Co play at Boyd Co I feel really good about Russell's chances.

dont know what their deal was tonite, but it seemed like everyone needed some stick em on their hands, both sides of the ball, dont know if it was the wind or what was going on, maybe just one of those night's, Russell's return game has been spectacular all yr, I look for that to continue.

Mason didnt really air it out tonite, luckily for Russell, it was open again tonite, but Mason didnt throw as much, definetly think SK's QB and recievers were much better, but Mason never took any deep shots, and only passed about 15 times, compared to about 35 for SK.
When both teams meet again, I look for Mason to double those attempts, gonna be the only way they can win.(Russell will not make mistakes like that again, I think alot of the changes have some of the kids messed up) Good job by Drew tonite, in the second half finally started kicking it to the outside and got big yardage, now if he'll just bend at the waist a little and quit running stright up, scares me when he does that, one of these days when Russell plays a hard hitting team someone's gonna rock his world running straight up and down like that.

Secondary was much better. Mason never took any deep shots because outside of the one TD in the first quarter the deep ball wasn't there to take. Mason did try a couple of More times over the middle but adjustments were made Rice almost came up with the interception the last time they tried it.

Also give Mitchell, Cordle, Abrams and Roark a little credit.

Yes it was. Home field advantage is nice.
#23
Congrats DEVILS, I could not make the game because I got called into work. I just got to listen to when Mason scored their first TD and I could not pick the game up at work, when I had a chance I called someone and they told me that Russell won in overtime on a missed 2 pt. conversion attempt by Mason, I thought that it just SUCKED that I had to work and miss the game because it sounded like a good one.
#24
Just read the paper on the game, CONGRATS to Drew on an outstanding game, keep up the good work.
#25
NOW it is time to get ready for a rivalry that is 30+ years in the making.

Seems like our special team receivers are trying to make the SPECTACULAR play instead of the smart play. On a kickoff and you are on the 10 and you have to back up to catch the kickoff, let it go. 9 times out of 10 the ball will go into end zone which is a touchback, ball at 20. Same thing on punts. If the ball is over your head and you have to make a over the shoulder catch, just let the ball go, let them down it and put the offense back on the field. We lost it once and almost 3 other times. Twice we lost additional yardage by trying to catch the ball instead of making the SMART Play.

Same for our receivers. Once you catch the ball, and you are surrounded by 3 or 4 defenders, don't try for the extra yard or two. Just go down, maintain posession and go back for the next play.

Amen I agree with you 100 % cause sooner or later it is going to hunt us, and we need to get all this out of our heads this week cause if we make them mistakes whem the play offs come it mite not be the out come, that we want,
