Your School's Friday Night Atmosphere
#1
I have heard a lot of debating over what schools in Eastern Kentucky have the best atmospheres on gamenight. But really, everyone thinks that they easily take such a title. Why do you[I] think [I]your school has the best game atmosphere?
#2
With Belfry it is because no matter who it is or were it is at the Belfry faithful will pack the place out. Im biased twoards it but when you go to a lot of places and see a lot of teams come visit and even the teams that comes into Belfry, you just dont see that kind of crowd like Belfry brings unless its a huge rival game.
I honestly believe Belfry could play in Montana and bring a nice size crowd to watch them.
As far as other atmospheres, Ashland and Rusell both creates nice atmospheres. JC appears to have also, however I havent been over there yet since Matney arrived.
#3
Yeah Belfry's fans are devoted and always have a lot of fans no matter where they go.
#4
Russell is the same way!!!! When Russell comes to town you may just have to bring in extra seating for the fans. Just ask Belfry about last year? I have to say that I do like the stadium at the CAM just not enough seating on the visitor's side, snd not enough concession stands.
#5
The CAM needs to be extended.. The atmospere is great if you are from Belfry.. not so much if you are the other team....Looking across the field at all the red and white in the stands can be intimidating,,,, but it is better when you walk out with a win.... This year is going to be tougher..

Russell will have a new section for Alumni seating next year and will be the endzone seating on the open end of the stadium.

A lot of what makes Letcher Central a great enviorment is the fact that everything is so new (which is ironic considering a lot of places are great because they are older and "historic"). Between the tail gaters, the turf and the jumbotron, it feels like you're at a college game.
#7
Lets see, Saturday , Cardinal stadium with the Belfry Pirates taking the field. Hmmm OK CAM stadium when its rocking is the best atmosphere. I have noticed that the last year seems like us Belfry people has been alot more subdued. Im hoping Friday night against SC this will change. GO Pirates

Blackcat Stadium- The Music- The Fans, The Fire Works, The Smoke........ Need We Say More.......
#9
W.C. Hambley has been very quiet for the Panther games this year. This team isn't playing with much heart and I am afraid it is going to get worse next year!

One reason I never mentioned the Blackcats, was there fan base, when they have played us at Pburg, was no were near what it was when we visited the time before. They were strugling that year and Belfry had a rather larger crowd. But back when they were really on top of their game Pburg was one of the funnest places to play.
#11
You Are Right- When The Cats Are Doing Good-the Fans Are Great!! But When They Have A Bad Game-- No Go.... They Need To Bo On For The Haul
#12
Yeah- I Noticed How Pikevile Was When We Were There. We Had More Fans Than They Did Sad

From the experience of playing a JV game there, Belfry's facilities provide a very unique setting from a player's perspective. I loved it. It seemed very compact, almost like the stands on both sides were right on top of you, but then when you actually looked, it was a pretty big stadium. Haven't seen a varsity game at Belfry, I would imagine it is a rather electric enviorment.
#14
Im gonna have to say East Ridge has a great atmosphere
we may not be the number one team but our fans make up for it
Friday night football games at ER are the best

No place like Henry R. Evans stadium and the flaming scoreboard.

Sounds like there are some interesting stories to be told there MideeSmile

That stupid flaming scoreboard still haunts me in my dreams. 2005 Belfry vs Russell that was a WAR.

At Whitley, right now the mood is tensely sullen. Not morgish, but definately a place of waling, nashing of teeth and general dispair with regard to all that is football.

Not to paint the picture overly bleak, because the fans seem to be adjusting at least coping with the reality of another dismal season after all the early season hope and hoopla. The faithful are beginning to settle into the pleasantries of the autumn spectical that is high school football. The facilities themselves are beautiful second to none. The grass and ornamental decor rival that of the most prestigiuos cemetaries. The air is filled with the smell of popcorn, grilling meats, freshly cut hay and the late autumn aroma of oak, maple and hickory preparing to sleep for the winter.

The fights between parents, detractors and defenders of the coaching staff and their strategyor lack there of, the constant bellows towards the officials regarding poor vision and the rule book, fights amonst the players on the field, on the sidelines and in the huddles. The unmistakeable noisy hum of nasty looks, gossips, moans, cheers, foot stamping, head shaking and second guessing fills the air. The type of fair that one comes to expect in these small mountain towns on Football Fridays.

Just out of the stands at the north end ofthe staduim there are usually plenty of local politicians at the lower end of the stadium plotting, coniving and shaking hands with the electorate. At the south end, the police, rescue squad, and a fair gathering of tobacco chewers stand at the fence and speculate on the future of upcoming players and the possibily of outgoing coaches.

But, the food, Ah, yes the food, the food is good, very good, infact has to be some of the best football grub in the mountains: hotdogs, burgers, steaks, beans, BBQ, fresh sqeezed lemonade. Just behind the food court there is always at least two very competive touch football games being played by elementary kids within eye shot of the stands.

The PA is usually blasting some really good classic rock tunes (lots of Segar and ACDC for some reason) any time play is stopped on the field. During play, if you chose, you can tune in the game on local radio. Whereever you look, from east to west you see a headphones over hanging male faces. Not for sure why males seem to best love the headphones, I suspect it involves the fact that a favorite (or unfavorite) player may be pointed out for good or bad play. In which case te earphoned fellow can relish in the fact that he his thought had been shared by the radio crew. Yes the radio crew, small towns love their radio crews, no matter how embarrassing the actual game is you can always count on the homie radio team to paint a brighter picture and cast out hope for the future.

I suppose when the rubber really hits the road, it is the eternal hope that next year will be the good year, along with each years parade of new faces, wearing old numbers, with familar last names that keeps us returning to this old campus for the Friday Night Ritual of high school football.

I love it.

Definitely not a bird lover.

I know I am sporting a t-shirt at work today that reads "Where do you spend your Friday nights?" and the front says "Cam Stadium." Friday nights are meant to be spent on "Heartbreak Hill" cheering on the Pirates.

Long story short.....

A bird decided to build a nest in there and the flame didn't go to well with the nest. I hear that the bird came flying out looking like the Phoenix rising from the ashes.......Sad

As somebody who gets there at 5:00 for homegames, you see the atmosphere build as the kickoff time approaches. The facilities help out a lot. Parking areas for the tailgaters, the music, and I would like to think that the jumbotron helps out. We shouldn't leave out Dr. Sam Quillen as the voice of the cougars.

If you think the atmosphere outside is crazy, you should be inside the pressbox.

I'm not keeping mine shut. That was the best flame that ever came out of that thing. It was an explosion. A big wow factor throughtout the stadium. I thought "what an upgrade". The smoke didn't clear over the field for an hour. That bird was extra crispy..
