Just wandering if anybody else had heard that Cassandra Akers is the new assistant principal at BL High School and will not be coaching the girls basketball this year?

I have heard the same rumor. Jennifer Hopkins (now Jennifer Ballman - she got married this past weekend btw) may be named the new coach at BL with Akers taking the assistant principal's position.

in my opinion if you are a principle you should not be able to coach.the school board should leave it like it is.

I agree with you big dog one, I don't think the board should change their policy either. But it wouldn't suprise me because everyone knows how things at the board, you know how much politics plays in some of their decisions

Harold Tackett has been coaching for a while. Not sure everywhere he's been but I know he coached Betsy Layne Elementary Boys for the past few years and won the county title a few times I do believe. He also coached girls basketball at Prestonsburg High as well. Here's what I could find about his time at Prestonsburg record wise from the KHSAA website:
2000-2001 17 wins-14 losses Lost in regional semifinals
2001-2002 17 Wins-13 Losses Lost in first round of region
2002-2003 3 Wins-25 Losses

No excuses for Coach Tackett if the Lady Bobcats struggle because they are a talented team and if I'm not mistaken, they return all their key players from the last two seasons. It's a coaches dream to walk into a job like that, where a foundation of winning has been built and there is young talent to work with in place.

Good luck to Coach Tackett if this is true and hopefully this program will continue it's progress to winning a region title again and not fall backwards.

i will be surprised if betsy layne wins the district under coach tackett.when he was at p-burg he had alot of talent and wasted it.he did not know how to use his players to get the most out of them.jack pack will beat him with less talent.
