Who Will Win the 58th?
#1
who do you think will win the 58th this year, explain why
#2
I voted for Betsy Layne due to the fact that BL and P-burg will be in my opinion the two front runners and the quarter I flipped landed on tails. In all reality, it could be either of these two teams winning it depending on which team is playing the best for the longest part of the championship game.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

Well I chose pburg, because like you said it will probably be down to BL and PBURG in the end. Once again it looks like pburg will have a good outside game with hughes and hall at the guard spot. And if stephens plays good down low, they should be a force in the 58th.

I chose Betsy Layne, simply because Jared Newman. IMO nobody will be able to stop him in the region, let alone the district. Also with the most talent returning, plus the talented group of freshman is why I think BL will win it this year, making it four different district winners in four years (SF in 05, Pburg in 06, AC in 07 and BL in 08).

they do have sum talented freshman

BL, no one can match up with Newman on the inside and they will be hard to press because of Case. Keathly is the best outside shooter in the district. Plus, I look for them to get help from the Freshman Martin, who I think will make a very good player. BL is due!

Hall and Hughes from P-burg could shoot circles around Keathley from the outside.

I will have to go with Betsy Layne. I was very impressed with how they played against Shelby Valley last year in the regional tournament. While that may not have been Valley's best game, the Bobcats still came closer to beating the champs than anyone else in the region last year.

I chose Prestonsburg. The Blackcats return Jordon Hall, Bobby Hughes, and Nat Stephens, from the starting five. They will also have another player that plays just like Chase Martin in Austin Gearheart. Micheal Burchett will step up and play big for the blackcats and so will Jody Tackett. This will be one of the fastest blackcat teams that I can remember.

Betsy Layne isn't too far behind with excellant guard play in Breenan Case. Jared Newman will be big on the boards for BL and the bobcats will have a good season.

Allen Central does return alot too. I heard they got a new kid that could play pretty good, and they still have Josh Prater and Alex Hammonds. I think this maybe a rebuilding year for the rebels but it wouldn't surprise me to see them be in the district finals.

South Floyd has completley fell of the map. They return no talent at all (That I know of) and it will be a very long season for the raiders.

It looks like the majority is thinking BL.
I'll go with that
#11
I think this district is wide open and will be decided by who has worked the hardest and improved the most over the summer.
#12
Allen Central. they stayed right with Pikeville in the Semi Finals of the 2006 15th Region so they should be strong again this year
#13
Im goin with BL simply becuase they are returning basically the same team from last year. They only graduated two seniors im looking for them to win the 58th now that they have a new coach

This season will have a lot of ups and downs this year. Their is no clear cut favorite. Betsy Layne has a little edge over everyone else, but not much. I look for it to be a fun year in the 58th.
#16
All some reasonable answers. Any more thoughts on who will win the 58th this upcoming season?

AC lost 3 starters to graduation last season. Collins, Slone and Martin.

I would agree Hall is a good shooter.
#20
I think it will be a 3 team race with SF bringing up the rear. This is probably the most even the 58th has been in quite some time. It really depends on who wants it more.

Ouch...I would probably say it is between P-burg and Betsy Lane by a long shot.

Samuel Keithly....what a joke...he is definitely not the best in the district.....Aaron Crum from AC is.....but Newman is a threat and is the best big man in the district...i believe that AC and Besty Layne are the 2 front runners....AC will prevail if they can contain Newman down low...nobody from Besty Layne can shoot themselves out of a wet paper bag
